hmm. thoughts on chuuya kicking angos ass while calling him a 3p
Ah, before I answer that, I think the 3p thing is a misinterpretation for the following reasons:Ā
A. The Japanese-speaking fandom might be using this as a joke among themselves rather than asserting that is actually what Chuuya said. I would be more surprised if they think he actually did say that.Ā
B. While I had my doubts about what Chuuya said for the first half, I am pretty sure his final word ended with theĀ ānā sound, making itĀ āsanpinā rather thanĀ āsanpiā. Hence, I am inclined to believe that he was using a derogatory term for a low-ranking samurai.Ā
C. This is internet slang, and while that doesnāt mean it canāt be used in manga (Boku no Hero Academia being a series that comes to mind), it has not been used in Bungou Stray Dogs so far. For it to be used now strikes me as out of the blue and not in line with the language used so far.Ā
D. Chuuya does not have the cleanest mouth, but this is too vulgar even for him. However, this reason is based purely on my understanding of his character, so I understand if people think itās a term he might use.Ā
So, my thoughts on Chuuya choking Ango then tossing him across the floor while calling him a low-ranking samurai (and this is assuming that line is even aimed at Ango in the first place, considering trailers do not always match what we see with what we hear):Ā
1. The Chuuya-Ango relationship is a pretty mysterious one, the only thing we know (from Gaiden) being that Ango once did Chuuya a favour, and he called in the repayment of the debt when he needed information during the events of Gaiden. From this, we can tentatively assume they can establish some form of working relationship, regardless of personal feelings in the matter.Ā
2. In this scenario, Ango is the main person giving orders to prevent the annihilation of Yokohama. The government is not above using other organisations to preserve the safety of the city, as seen from when they were willing to use the mafia to drive out Mimic. If so, whatever his personal feelings, Ango is likely complicit in using the detective agency and the mafia to find and eliminate Shibusawa. Chuuya would be understandably most displeased about this.Ā
3. However, I donāt think Chuuya holds a strong personal grudge against Ango. Iām not saying he doesnāt have any grudge at allāhe most likely sees Ango as a traitor to the mafia for his infiltration, and I donāt think he has a positive view on spies. But Chuuya recognises Ango is not the enemy here. If he did, he would have killed Ango instead of tossing him to the side. Chuuya, I think, knows Ango is more valuable alive than dead, and he would be making a very dangerous enemy of the government if he were to kill one of their agents in so direct a manner.Ā
4. The likelihood is very, very high that Chuuya does not know Angoās Ability, especially since so much of Angoās details were kept under wraps while he was in the mafia. My guess is itās a mental and not a physical Ability, and Ango is not physically strong anyway: pitted against Chuuya, one of the mafiaās top combat fighters, and itās no surprise Chuuya can easily kick Angoās ass. However, Chuuya is not stupid either, and I think he has a healthy wariness of Angoās Ability. If he does not know what it is, it can be a potentially huge threat, so it serves him better to not force Ango to the point where Ango might use his Ability on him. Angoās bodyguards probably arenāt too far away either, and those bodyguards will defend Ango with their lives.Ā
5. Since Chuuya let Ango go, he probably has gained the information he needs or has grudgingly accepted that he cannot get what he wants. Iām inclined to believe itās the latter, with a threat thrown in that if Ango dares to do anything that might harm the mafia, he will be ruthlessly decimated. Alternatively, he has decided it would be better to co-operate with Ango than to fight against him.Ā
Until we get any more information, this remains pure speculation on my part. Hope this answers your question!Ā
