I have been captivated seeing from above the surreal looking arrangements of the different shaped nets and cages of these fish farms. the strange, ovoid enclosures appeared like abstract geometric designs to me. intensive mass animal farming on the sea might be one way to help feeding the growing world population. ~ Bernhard Lang

It is the job of the human brain to assemble all the input of our world—sights, sounds, smells—into a coherent narrative. This is what memory is, a carefully calibrated story that we make up about our past.
Noah Hawley, Before the Fall (via booksquoteslove)
What you see is a myosin protein dragging an endorphin along a filament to the inner part of the brain’s parietal cortex which creates happiness. Happiness. You’re looking at happiness.
The sky still does its wonders. Acquaintances turned friends makes me wonder. Run to enjoy sunsets without bites. Try not to lose sight.
Poetry as an infinite series of veils. Poetry as gender in transition. Poetry as the years I spent not knowing myself and poetry as the years when I finally had the words. Poetry as the row of palm trees you drive past going anywhere on this coast: to home or school or church, to the border bridge or the island bridge. Poetry as the ocean or the family refusing to wrap its arms around you. Poetry as not knowing how someone will respond upon seeing you, as the moment your voice is heard, how intensely you are interrogated: whether an insult or a question or a gaze. I ask myself often, What have I done? and Have I lived a full life?

That you turn to mindlessly. Opting for the feeling of mindlessness, then shame, over the feeling of working hard and overcoming your blues. I was once afraid of monsters in the house. In dark places. Now, the only monsters are the ones inside my head.
The skies. This time the trees look so vivid. I like to look at them swaying from the wind. The planes still give me a sense of calm, gliding by, especially in that cotton candy backdrop. Eventually, it becomes too much. Too many have flown back and forth. So low and so close, reminding me that life is passing me by. Every moment I spend feeling anxiety reserved for this academic institution, increasing, as I feel less productive and less capable by the day, is passing by too quickly. I am reminded that this is not all that there is. I walk around as if there is such a heavy weight on my shoulders, but there doesn’t have to be. It’s as simple as taking it day by day..
