A very fitting phrase used throughout the year, but especially on this day: eternal remembrance and glory to our martyrs.
Our martyrs deserve to be remembered every single day. We are all forever indebted to them. And as with any debt, you begin to pay it back. Our brothers and sisters in Eritrea, work every day to build a country which honors our martys legacy. Does that mean if you live in the diaspora you do not have any type of responsibility? No.
You can honor a martyr’s legacy by financially supporting their family in Eritrea, including elderly parents. You can teach youth in diaspora Eritrean languages, rich traditions and culture which our martyrs died to keep alive. You can excel in your academic or professional field and use your skills on the ground in ‘FREE’ Eritrea. You can be active in your city’s Eritrean community and help enlist resources for all members and help advance your community. The list goes on and on.
Do not let June 20 be the only day of the year you honor our martyrs!
And like I always say on this important day;
My life. My heart. My actions. My words. I am forever indebted to our martyrs, which means I am forever indebted to Eritrea.
Zel'alemawi zikrin kibrin ne sewatna! Awet n'hafash!
