-when mike and will were children, they used to have sleepovers all the time. mostly at the wheeler home because will was scared of what lonnie would say if he brought another boy over to the house and also in general took every opportunity to escape him. before every sleepover, mike would get the basement ready for will to sleep and got their sleeping bags set up but most of the time they ended up just sharing one because will was scared of the dark basement and mike was always cold

-mikes love language is physical touch and protection, and he gets so jealous when others get physical with will (not in a toxic way ofc). one time Lucas give him his basketball sweatshirt because will was cold and mike literally gave Lucas intimidating stares all day (they all laughed about it later)

-will loves to do mini braids with mikes hair because its way longer than his, they usually do this while will is sitting on the couch and mike is on the floor reading a book or flipping through wills art

-mike loves to try to distract will while he's painting by giving him neck kisses and wrapping his arms around his waist and one time will got so distracted his painting got ruined, and mike felt so bad he went out and bought him a new easel and canvas and brush set but will just thought it was funny

-karen has had a suspicion that they have been dating or liked each other since they were kids so one day she goes down to the basement and catches them literally having a full on makeout session but she doesn't say anything to anyone, but when mike and will finally come out she asks them what took them so long

Byler childhood headcanons bc it's 3 in the morning and I can't sleep let's goooo~

• Will despised carrots so much, but never complained when Ms. Wheeler added them in his plate when he had dinner at Mike's, afraid of causing a bad impression on his best friend's mom.

• Mike, of course, noticed it. So, when he was old enough he started helping his mom serving dinner, always making sure there was no carrots on Will's plate.

• Mike was so clumsy that it wasn't rare for him to have his knees and elbows covered in bandaids. And every time Will doodle all over them in an attempt to cheer him up.

• Mike was always holding Will's hand, afraid that his small friend got lost in a crowded place.

• Besides, holding hands helped Will to calm down when he was distressed. Bonus points if Mike intertwined their fingers.

• The first time Mike thought Will was pretty happened when they were 8 years old. They were hanging out in Castle Byers and the combination of sunset light filtered through the structure, Will's big smile and rosy cheeks due to the slightly cold breeze left Mike breathless for a few seconds.

• Will liked to count each and every freckle in Mike's face. Mike let him be, sitting in silence with his friend's soft fingertips caressing his cheeks and nose.

• After seeing it in a movie, Mike picked up the habit of kissing Will's knuckles in every opportunity he had, adoring the way he got all flustered. They stopped after being caught up by Joyce, and although she never scolded them they were too afraid to do it anymore.

• Will often borrowed Mike's sweaters and never return them, not because he didn't want to, but because Mike never accepted them back, claiming that they suit Will better.

• When Will told Mike how much he loved butter cookies, Mike begged his mom to teach him how to bake. It was difficult, of course, but none of that mattered once he saw Will's bright eyes and big smile while eating them.

• During sleepovers on rainy nights Mike often slept with Will curled up in his chest, the latter being afraid of storms and thunders. He never said it out loud, but the idea of holding Will so close to him gave him butterflies in his tummy.

• Will didn't let Mike go to his home for months after becoming friends since he was embarrassed by how cramped and gloomy his house was in contrast with the Wheeler's. Mike assured him he didn't care about it.
