Julia Buckley García is the child of an American father and a Cuban mother. They found eachother during holidays in Cuba and after having spent a few years there, they returned back to her father’s hometown. Back to Ann Arbor. Only a few years later their first child was born. Julia - or Jules as everyone would call her - was the first of three children of her mother, the only one for her father. After being together for a year, the parents split up and Julia got to live with her father.
She grew up in close contact with her mother as well, just as her two half-siblings, but her father was her best friend. The two of them were inseparable. During her time in high school, Jules was an ‘average’ student. She got good grades, entered the maths club but stayed out of the spotlight. An exact mirror of the person Jules was becoming; a calm woman, who was kind to people who interacted with her and preferred to stay away from people she didn’t like or found interesting.
After graduation from high school, Jules went to the University of Michigan in her hometown. An accounting study was the destination, despite the fact that she was already sure that it was not something she wanted to do in the future. But she had to choose and this was the easiest way to go.
Maybe it was meant to be - because in deciding that she was going to study accounting, she met the man that was going to be her future husband and the father of her two children. He had only just arrived in Ann Arbor, specifically for studying and they hit it off right away, sitting together during classes and all. They dated and after graduation from university, he proposed. He arrived in Ann Arbor for education but he stayed for love.
After graduation, Jules got pregnant rather quickly. In 2007 their first child, a boy named Nick, was born and in 2010 their second child, a girl named Lily, followed. During those years, she stayed at home mostly as a stay at home mum and only when her father passed away in 2014, Jules decided to pick up work and education once more. She started an economics home study, but now with an aim; Bloom Flower Shop. The old lady who owned the place had always been a friendly face to the Buckley family and she had let them know that she would love to retire in a few years, but that she was worried about the shop. Seeing as the shop had always been a safe place to Jules and later to her family, she knew exactly what to do.
In 2020 the time was finally there; Jules was able to take over as the owner of the Bloom Flower Shop in town and since that day, she’s been enjoying her time of work. It was a pleasant distraction when in 2022 her marriage ended. It wasn’t a messy divorce but the two of them realised that even though they had some great years together, the love between them was gone. So they parted as friends, something that Jules preferred as that was all she knew from her own parents in the end as well.
Jules is now at a point in her life where everything has settled, her children growing up and making decisions on their own futures… It leaves her with the question; what is there left for her in the future?
