Bucky is ashamed of the scars on his shoulder where the arm is attached. They’re long and think and criss cross further up his arm and on his chest where the metal meets skin.

Tony hides the arc reactor under his clothes. His days of unbuttoning his shirt to show off his chest is over. The reactor takes up most of his sternum and the scars are thick like rope.

The first time Tony had his shirt off in front of Bucky the man zeroed in on the light. The scars surrounding it are raised and still look angry after all this time. He raises his hand and lightly brushes his finger over the thickest mark. Tony shivers.

The first time Bucky takes his shirt off in front of Tony is when they’re working on his arm. Tony has always been observant; he knows better than to say anything. So he gets to work on the arm instead. It takes awhile but the first time Tony touches any of the scars is an accident. He places his had at the base of the metal arm, where it meets his shoulder, so he can get a better angle for what he’s tinkering with. Bucky flinches away with his head down; hair shielding his face.

The second time Tony touches the scars it’s on purpose. It’s just a simple brush with his finger tips. Each time he does it Bucky relaxes little by little.

Soon their scars became their favorite parts. In the dark it’s simple touches and loving kisses. It’s something between just them.

Tony likes to curl up around Bucky and be the big spoon. Bucky wasn’t sure how to feel about it at first, but now he loves it. He feels safe in Tony’s arms and curls up as much as he can so Tony can cover him as much as possible.
