Szabadság híd (Liberty Bridge), which links Buda and Pest, was opened in 1896, nearly 50 years after the Széchenyi lánchíd (Széchenyi Chain Bridge). The idea of turning Liberty Bridge into a pedestrian-only bridge has been discussed often; even now, several times throughout the year, the bridge is closed to traffic so Hungarians and visitors can walk across and even picnic on the wide-open bridge. The Széchenyi thermal bath, opened on 16 June 1913 in City Park, is among the largest medicinal bath complexes in Europe.
