Save the North Park Library! 

This charming little library on the corner of Delaware and Hertel is up for demolition because Ciminelli wants to develop a large corner building on the site. The City of Buffalo abandoned it a few years back due to asbestos (which needs to be removed anyway), moved the library to a strip mall across the street and sold it to Ciminelli. While we love seeing new development, this entire corner is a combination of strip malls, big box stores and vacant land. This library is the last little gem and deserves a second look!

Paladino Proposes Destruction of Downtown Landmark

Unless plans are averted, Carl Paladino’s proposal to construct a parking ramp and hotel, offices, and apartments at Franklin and West Tupper streets will come with a heavy price. Ellicott Development has submitted plans to the city to raze the Bachelor, 329 Franklin Street, a little-known but historically important apartment house built in 1886.

One of our five preservation initiatives for 2015 - Saving the Bachelor. The Bachelor is located on Franklin & Pearl and is a classic beaut. 

This historic apartment building is THE oldest in downtown as well as the oldest surviving building of our beloved Green & Wicks architecture firm. When this building was built, it was extraordinary - hosting single working men with beautiful places that had their own bathrooms. (Crazy modern for its time!) 

Today, this building is a classic beauty surrounded by parking lots. The interior is still nearly 100% original. Given the money they are spending to do the entire project and their focus on preserving the Buffalo Christian Center, we feel saving this building and inserting it into the design should be a no brainer.

Assembly House 150 is now taking donations to help restore a beautiful church in Allentown.

One of our Five 2016 preservation initiatives for BYP is the Assembly House 150! Dennis and his team saved this historic church on Elmwood / Edward from demolition nearly two years ago and are finally ready to make it a killer art space. If you don’t know Dennis, he is a dedicated professor and lives his entire life through art... literally, his house is a museum. 

Nearly a year ago, BYP spent a Saturday cleaning out the church for Dennis - we worked hard and filled an entire dumpster to the brim with debris. Thank you to everyone who helped with that!! 

We hope you can donate! Every dollar helps. We will keep you updated on other ways to help make this art space a reality!

Letter To Pridgen Re: Crosby

Rob Baird sent this to the council last week. Feel free to use it for inspiration when YOU email your common councilman about saving Crosby!

Dear Council President Pridgen and Councilman Feroleto,

Let me begin by saying THANK YOU for all you do for the City of Buffalo!

In my spare time I love to build furniture out of reclaimed lumber. Salvaging something from the past that is headed to the trash, realizing that it has great potential, and turning it into something functional that can be utilized and cherished for the next generation brings me great joy and a sense of accomplishment.

For those same reasons, I am emailing today to ask you to consider saving the Crosby complex located at 183 Pratt Street. The buildings that comprise this complex could be used to house so many different things; distilleries, restaurants, breweries, pop up businesses, small scale manufacturing, housing.

There is so much happening in this city these days!! Much of this is because of the leadership and vision that you provide for our city. As we enjoy this new day of prosperity and economic turnaround, let us plan wisely and save/restore buildings that will be enjoyed for generations to come.

Who to contact about saving Crosby.

We need to hear from you! We encourage you to reach out to all of us to help encourage the Crosby company to save its historic complex. They’re not in the rehab business so all they would need to do is to sell instead of tearing them down. Many buildings like this have been saved including 500 Seneca which is right near Crosby!

The Crosby Historic District is a cluster of brick buildings located less than 10 blocks from Downtown Buffalo. It’s history is incredible! Founded in 1896, the Crosby company has contributed to nearly every invention of the 20th century including making parts for bicycles, trains, automobiles and household appliances.
