âAl-ek-zan-der.â The Western name is strange to her, but it does ring a bell. Sheâs heard of this man and the crimes heâs committed, so much so that she would consider taking him on herself. Heâd made a name for himself in her homeland. And if this boy wished him dead, surely heâd spread his terrible grasp further than she thought.
âWe will talk of that when you are rested.â She responds, making their way into the nearby inn, walking past the owner of the establishment. Sheâd already paid for a few days. They went into a plain room with rather comfortable looking futon settled upon the floor. Guiding him down, she made sure to be as gentle as she could. âAnd when we find who did this to you.â
Those pirates had been a thorn in her side for much too long. How many men, women, and even children had she found hacked to pieces and robbed?
Too many for a quiet town full of good people.
âHow many were there, boy?â

She didnât move him from her shoulder, not yet. He would be granted her rare kindness a little longer, at least until she could put him up somewhere for the night. He was in no condition to be alone right now.
And the cloth was lucky. But that was none of his business.
But the mention of black armor makes her thoughts go silent. There were only a handful of samurai in such armor, none of them up to any good as far as she knew. The worst of the worst, even. Supporting him against her as her arm looped under his arm, she began escorting him off the beach and toward the village. He was heavier than he looked. She supposed it was a good thing, given his current state.
âWhat is the name of the one you seek?â

âThatâs because it is everything we own.â She remarked, glancing back at him from over his shoulder. A tiny smile was given to her faithful student, a rarity.Â
âYou know, I could find another apprentice. One that wonât bitch.â
The sight of his blood made a neatly shaven brow raise, having been unaware of its presence until now. Ishiyo reached within the folds of her kimono and retrieved a clean strip of cloth she often dressed her wounds with. Silent, she opens his tunic and quickly begins to tightly wrap the cloth around him several times. It was only after she finished that she looked back at him.
âWhat happened?â
She inquired flatly, annoyed with herself. A part of her wanted to stay out of it. Ishi had enough on her plate as it was with those damn pira--
Oh.
âTell me. Now.â
Onna-bugeisha
An onna-bugeisha (愳æŠèžè ) was a type of female warrior belonging to the Japanese nobility. Many wives, widows, daughters, and rebels answered the call of duty by engaging in battle, commonly alongside samurai men. They were members of the bushi (samurai) class in feudal Japan and were trained in the use of weapons to protect their household, family, and honour in times of war. They also represented a divergence from the traditional housewife role of the Japanese woman. They are sometimes referred to as female samurai. Significant icons such as Empress Jingu, Tomoe Gozen, Nakano Takeko, and HĆjĆ Masako are famous examples of onna bugeisha. Read More || Edit

The salty air; a small comfort of any seaside resident, the open door to worldâs beyond.
The salty air; the breath of the earthâs wet and ever-hungry maw that swallowed those who glided upon her mirrored lips.
And this day, she spat up a boy. Ishiyoâs unfeeling eyes searched the shore and the rocks cradling it, unsure if this was a trap. It wasnât uncommon for the petty criminals to use bait to catch one off guard. Yet she advanced, the weight of her trinity of swords reassuring her that she was capable of cutting down whomever would try to attack. The sleeves of her kimono are ushered forth by the breeze, but in the sky, she could see a storm brewing. The rain would come down in buckets, and to leave him out in such weather would be cruel, even for the famously cold woman.
Great.
Standing over the young man, the samurai extended her leg, pushing him over onto his back with her foot.

âYou could be in the dark, captured. You may even lose your eyes.â Once his blindfold was back on, Ishiyo took another hard swing at his thigh. She wasnât about to let his moaning get him pity.
âThe enemy would show no mercy to the blind. But youâre welcome to die in the mud if it pleases.â
