You are allowed to like villains. 

You are allowed to like characters who have done bad things. 

You are allowed to like characters who are mean, manipulative, abusive, coercive, murderous, or just plain evil. 

Liking a “bad” character is not the same thing as condoning their actions. Villains are fun. It’s genuinely okay to like them! It doesn’t mean you want to be a villain, or that you are a bad person, or that you don’t recognize the issues with what they’re doing. 

There’s this really huge trend in fandom to try to redeem villains, or excuse their behaviors, or make them into woobies who aren’t really doing anything wrong–all for the purpose of being allowed to like them. I think it’s honestly part of the whole ‘purity’ culture (tied in closely with the anti culture)–this idea that you aren’t permitted to be a fan of, write about, or enjoy reading about anything that isn’t 100% ethically sound, and that if you do, you are inherently condoning it.

And like…that’s just bullshit? You don’t have to redeem a character to be allowed to like them. Don’t get me wrong, you absolutely can if you want to, because sympathetic redemption arcs are super fun too, but I just want to throw out the reminder that you really don’t have to. 

You are allowed to like villains as-is. 

You do not have to make excuses for liking villains. You do not have to defend your own moral stances in order to like a villain. You do not have to make up reasons or justify why you like them, or reconcile your own beliefs with your appreciation of them. You do not have to defend yourself against anyone who would try to attack you or your ethical stances just because you like a villain, because you are not doing anything wrong. 

You are allowed to like villains. 

Honestly, the only thing you owe anyone else vis-à-vis liking a villain is to respect the fact that some people don’t, and that is also okay. It is not your responsibility or your place to try to change their mind–but it is also not their responsibility or place to try to change yours, because neither of you is doing anything wrong. 

So, my villain-loving friends, go. Freaking. Nuts. Enjoy the heck out of those maniacal bastards. 

And have fun, everyone. Because that’s what fandom is supposed to be about.

They can be, in swarms.  A lone spiderant or skag is no challenge to any seasoned hunter- but groups…They can be daunting. Strong? No, I simply am well armed, and know my prey inside and out. I do not name them, but I’m trying to think of some that would fit it. The same goes for my other pets.  

I see. I would cherish it forever. Please do not take this the wrong way, but I would very much like to pick you up and crush you in what, I am told, is called a “hug.” 

I think a lot of things can be scary in swarms... (≧ヘ≦ ) But if you’re strong then it’s no problem at all! I’m just not used to those that at all so it seems much more dangerous than it might actually be?? I hope you can decide on good names!!!

Awwww!! ( つ≧▽≦)つ I don’t take that the wrong way at all! But please don’t actually crush me! Hugging is great though!! Maybe someday?

They are ferocious, but none more so than the elemental ones. Imagine a giant one of those barreling at you, only it is on fire, or it spits acid at you. They are unpleasant, but I do have one as a pet that is not too vicious toward me. None of my pets are. 

I hope that we find it too, if only to prove me wrong. I find that, between she and I, I am often wrong. Your admiration is appreciate. I admire your…Cuteness. Very…soft. And fluffy-seeming. 

That is very sweet. But, I do not have a home, so I do not have a place to put them. 

Σ(꒪◊꒪ )))) That sounds terrifying!! And something I’d experience in a video game!!  You must be so crazy strong to deal with something like that!!!! That’s incredible that you also have one as a pet? What is its name!!

Pandora is not for the faint of heart, no. But, I am looking for something, here. A Others like me are, too. Amara thinks we will find it, but I am not so hopeful. I am simply here for the hunt of it all, and if it turns out I have come up short, than I have met some fantastical beasts along the way. Spiderants are not what you think. Here:

this is a spiderant. Small thorax, but that is the only point of weakness in which to kill them. Those arms are as sharp as scythes, and will do a lot of damage if you are not careful.  But, sure. I would love to accept your flowers. 

（゜◇゜）That is definitely not at all what I was expecting!!! And I was already expecting something completely different!! I hope whatever you’re looking for, you find it soon!!! You’re incredible for dealing with things like that!!!! And the fact that you’re willing to enjoy the experience of it all... That’s super admirable!!

Yes, that is where I am from. It is a harsh planet, full of bandits, creatures that want to eat you, and sometimes- or so I hear- aliens. But, I think the Original Vault Hunters may have destroyed those. We haaave…Raak, Skags, Spiderants…Bullymongs, all sorts of creatures, too many to name. Skag and Raak are most common, however, and tend to be the most tedious. Do I like flowers? I suppose I can.
