a mini intro for Jeremy’s family!

Jeremy lives with his parents in a cozy suburban home. To begin with, Shannon is a very well-meaning parent who loves her family very much and works hard to be a good mother and wife, but because she puts high, often rigid expectations on her children to do well in school, to always do the right thing, etc., this leads her to often act in somewhat overbearing and controlling ways, and at worst, she becomes a little passive aggressive when her expectations are not met. this, of course, leads her kids to experiencing a lot of pressure to fit in a box and fear of making mistakes, among other things— which is, in Jeremy’s case, an unfortunate contributor to his people-pleasing tendencies and conflict avoidance.

Meanwhile, although he and Shannon are on the same page most of the time, Hank brings a more easygoing, quietly insightful presence to the parent dynamic. He’s very good at helping Shannon see outside of her tunnel vision and appreciate the other side of things, and he very much sees his younger self in his son.

Olivia is Jeremy’s older sister by five years, and she’s a college graduate living by herself in the next town over. She loves her family dearly, but her parents (mainly her mother) fail to see eye-to-eye on many things. Growing up, she worked hard to be a “golden child”, of sorts, but she eventually grew exhausted of the façade and became resistant to the standards set for her, causing tension with her parents on several fronts. Meanwhile, she is very empathetic and caring towards Jeremy and is rather protective of him.
