Whole cake Island is one of my most favorite arcs, it really shows his struggle of asking for what he truly wants and how much of a mess he really is. Not only that but since Sanji grew up at such a young age surrounded by emotionless soldiers and his brothers who would abuse him on the daily because of the simple fact he was a normal human, he would firmly believe that he was truly the malfunction.

When 8 year old Sanji tried leaving Germa and he confronted Judge about it, deep down he had that one small, pathetic little fragment of hope that just maybe Judge would somehow be upset or even angry that he was trying to leave. But when Judge outright told him that he was more then happy that Sanji would, by his own volition, get rid of himself from the Kingdom because of how much he was a disgrace to them all— that confirmation of being downright to the core unwanted hurt more then if he just faced death right then and there.
