Could I have a grain of salt to go with this, please?

What irritates me about statements like these is not their content in and of itself - I am not going “Oh no, my beloved Hannigram” over them because you know, personally I never needed the intense subtext-entering-text that the second half of season 2 demonstrated. Prior to it, I was really quite content with that fateful, all-encompassing bond that didn’t need any physical consummation to still be true.

However, they chose to go there. By utilising all that homoerotic subtext (which was, at some points, quite impossible to ignore), the creators chose to expand that relationship into sexual territory, regardless of other functions or intentions. They can’t wash their hands of that. And it’s not like they ever did make a big secret of the fact that it is there. For fuck’s sake, Bryan Fuller openly declared that the Ortolan scene is supposed to be reminiscent of oral sex.

To admit to knowingly and unequivocally sexualising their relationship through various scenes on the one hand, and then to say “It may be the love of their life in every aspect but absolutely not in the sexual one” on the other strikes me as really ridiculous to be honest.
