His lore, in a short summary, is that he grew up as a blue oni in Inazuma, but tired and done with having to live a quite reclused and miserable life, he decided to just leave Inazuma on his own. The thing being that, since that happens quite long before than the traveler getting to Inazuma, the storm surrounding the islands is still up, but he still goes anyway. As expected, his self-made-ish boat ends up sinked and him struck by one of Raiden's lightnings, but somehow stubbornly survives when not much after, Beidou's crew get him out of the water. After that, and a long recovery in Liyue, Gorai joins the Crux for a while as gratitude towards them and also to learn how to live and be like them, and so he learns to be a pirate with them. After some years with the Crux, Gorai finally decides to go sail on his own and take his own routes and dubious jobs around as a solo pirate. From there, he is just going around with his nonsense.

As for his chest finding lines, I guess they'd be something along the lines of "Ah… shiny things, my one true weakness!" or "If it sparkles, I’m keeping it. No negotiations!", or a more "Ya know, the real treasure is still the journey… but this doesn’t hurt either.", to compensate.

A wandering blue oni who left Inazuma to live a life of freedom and chaos as a pirate, sailing the seas of Teyvat to whatever new adventure he can get into. His main ports are Liyue Harbor and Port Ormos, where he usually does business.
