The Gear

I headed over to gearslutz to try find out if anyone had recommendations for free synth apps to get me started and mostly copped abuse but one useful fella suggested Tabletop and after downloading it I started to believe i may actually be able to do this!! I also found apps called Synth,TF7 Synth,Sound Prism,Beat Pad Pro, Core Synth, Electro Synth, Alchemy and for the DAW I went with Garage Band.

I know Garage band has it's limitations, particularly in the IOS version BUT I can save files on the iPad and then share them with Garage Band on the mac, which allows me many more options for compression, effect and EQ. I also discovered that LOGIC remote works with Garage Band so I can mix from the iPad and control the mac and that once i've gone as far as I can with GB I can hand all the GB files to an engineer,(probably along with a case of Beer) and he can compete final mix and Master in Logic...Hurrah

In the Beginning

It began by discovering the Gorrillaz Album 'The Fall' which had been made entirely in an iPad at the cost of a few thousand pounds. I reckoned that it could be done with free apps and so the challenge was laid down, record an entire album of songs in an iPad without spending money. Taking this to the next step i decided not to constrain myself with walls and headed out into the bush around Lake Macquarie to write and record and today I uploaded demos of all the tracks to sound cloud. if you'd like to hear some of them leave a comment and i'll share them here
