The ITIL® Intermediate Level
After earning your ITIL® Foundation Certificate, you can choose to advance to the ITIL Intermediate Level. The material presented in the ITIL Intermediate modules will build upon the knowledge you gained in the ITIL Foundation course. There are two streams in the ITIL Intermediate Level: the Capability Stream and the Lifecycle Stream.
The Capability Stream is comprised of four modules and offers a more detailed focus on a series of clustered process activities and how these processes are used throughout the Service Lifecycle. These four individual certifications are:
· Operational Support and Analysis
· Release, Control and Validation
· Service Offerings and Agreements
· Planning, Protection and Optimization
Each module in the Capability Stream is worth 4 credits.
The Lifecycle Stream takes a more holistic approach and concentrates on implementing an entire Lifecycle phase. These five individual certifications are:
· Service Strategy
· Service Design
· Service Transition
· Service Operation
· Continual Service Improvement
Each module in the Lifecycle Stream is worth 3 credits.
Students can choose to take courses from one stream or enroll in modules from both the Capability Stream and the Lifecycle Stream. To register for any of the modules in the Capability Stream or Lifecycle Stream, students must possess an ITIL V3 Foundation Certificate or the ITIL V2 Foundation Certificate and the V3 Foundation Bridge Certificate.
The concluding module in the Intermediate Level is Managing Across the Lifecycle. To enroll in this course, candidates must have earned at least 17 credits from previous ITIL Certifications. This course brings together the full essence of a Service Lifecycle approach to IT Service Management. The Managing Across the Lifecycle module is a key requirement for those wishing to achieve the ITIL Expert Certification.
