butch ruby week day 1: inspiration/role model
I've always liked the idea that the xenomorphs' adaptability is what makes them the perfect organism. It's not necessarily that they can kill anything, it's that they can survive anything. They can canonically function just fine in an atmosphere of pure chlorine or even no atmosphere at all, they can be frozen at the bottom of the ocean for years and emerge completely unscathed, they don't age, no disease exists that can slow them down, as best as we know they can survive off of zero food or water, they're evidently fireproof, they seem to like radiation, one gets dunked in molten lead and still keeps on ticking and despite the facehugger method being what they're most famous for, they can even adapt to reproduce in totally different ways when the situation calls for it. They are the embodiment of the ancient axiom that life uhh finds a way. Much to the grave misfortune of all other life in the universe.
I just watched Alien Romulus for the first time and HELL IN A HANDBASKET THAT LAST 30 MINUTES WAS HORRID
I came for the world building. I want to know more about the synths especially after Pred Badlands had been released, and when I’m finally in the mood to watch and eat some sour candy I GET THE FUCKASS ALIEN BABY SCENES
Yeah uhh... the Predator movies are predominantly action movies with light horror elements. If you're watching the Alien movies however, grotesque horror with lots of sexual/childbirth imagery is the order of the day. People should probably know that before they go in.
Chibi tiny small little
I don't know if it's just me but I wish they'd have given Donna something besides a lasso as her weapon. The bracelets are a cultural tradition for the Amazons so that's cool, but the lasso is Diana's shtick. Donna deserves a shtick of her own.
What is it with indie games and super artsy esoteric stories? I don't wanna call it a crutch but there is just so much of it.
Much as the classic God of War games were absolute barrels of gloriously ultraviolent fun in the gameplay and spectacle department, but God of War 2 and 3 have TERRIBLE stories. There's one main reason; Kratos is a character who doesn't have any point after the first game. God of War 1 ends with him getting revenge on the guy who basically sold him the gun he proceeded to shoot himself in the foot with and when he realized that didn't bring him any peace he came to accept that it really was entirely his own fault for being such a horrible murdering bastard so he jumped off a cliff. That was pretty much it. A complete character arc. The asshole protagonist realizes that he's the asshole and decides to kill himself about it. Straightforward Greek tragedy stuff.
But then that game made the mistake of ending on a stupid ass sequel hook and got really popular so now we gotta make two whole more games following the same asshole protagonist who now has nowhere to go as a character. What's more the finality of that character arc is quite inconvenient to continuing the story so he just unlearns all of it and he's back to being a vengeance crazed murderer who blames everybody but himself for all his problems and thinks killing some god is the solution. Except this time the god in question had nothing to do with Kratos killing his own family and the big crime we're out for revenge on him for is... trying to stop Kratos' senseless rampage.
So God of War 2 and 3 are games entirely about watching a completely detestable man do completely detestable things culminating in him literally destroying the world and all of it is for no reason. No lessons were learned, no closure was had, none of it meant anything, Kratos' motives are flimsy to the point of nonsensical. Just death and destruction for its own sake.
Counterpoint: They exist to make the production company enough money that they gave us GoW 2018 and Ragnarok. Those two games are a great storyline built on the foundation of assholeness that made up the first trilogy.
Counter Counterpoint: Playing GoW 2 made me hate Kratos so much and pissed me off so bad I never went back to the series and now I kinda hate the idea of anything good happening to that miserable, violent, asshole ever.
Specially hate the idea that anything could make him a hero or correct, ever, in any way, for any reason...
Dang, did you play GOW3? Because he gets like a million times worse before he gets any better.
So what you're telling me is that random post I made a while back about what would happen if a T-800 got turned into a Necromorph... is actually just what they main enemy type of Signalis is?
Oh hey, Signalis is going for free right now. Going in totally blind. All I know about this is it's a bit classic Resident Evil looking and people keep comparing it to Dead Space. And hey, both of those are pretty big box ticks for me so let's-a-go.
Speaking of Diana being the teasing big sister, has anyone drawn her doing the "oh no gravity is increasing on me" thing with Donna?
Ur wish is my command<3

Shiva being like "(sigh) I really miss Cassandra" not in any kind of motherly way just in that she's easily one of Shiva's favorite people to study by which I mean poke with a stick and also one of maybe two people on the planet who can give her a real fight. Which is... sort of like Shiva's version of loving someone.
Also she's one of the only people on earth Shiva can literally miss when she tries to hit her
So what you're saying is she misses missing her?
Wait I just realized
she would 100% say this

Diana absolutely swam with the Megalodons and gave them all scritches behind the gills in her youth. I like to think they get super excited and start swarming when news reaches them that Diana is back on Themyscira for a visit. Like 60ft aquatic puppies.
Somebody has to have shown Diana Jaws at some point and she probably spent the whole thing like "aww he's such a good boy." Especially since a regular Great White must look like a Pomeranian next to a wolf compared to the sharks she's used to.
One of the beautiful things about the Cass and Steph duo is that they keep getting together no matter what editorial/the universe does.
Batman fires Stephanie and tells Cass not to train with her anymore? They do it in secret for a little.
Stephanie dies? Cass hallucinates her to keep her around and thanks to the power of fan backlash, Stephanie is alive again.
Bruce is dead now and Cass is going to be shunted into Hong Kong limbo? She gives Batgirl to Stephanie so she’s sort of haunting the narrative.
New 52 wipes the both from existence? Batman eternal and Batman and Robin eternal bring them both back and they get to be part of a team again.
They’re not Batgirl? Joker War brings them up to become Batgirls and nobody even has to die or give something up this time.
They’re literally the “I’ll find you in every universe.”
"I'll find you in every universe... to let you know how bad you suck at martial arts."
