He holds a press conference during which he announces that he will perform five concerts in South Africa as part of the HIStory Tour. In the early afternoon, Michael joins Nelson Mandela, who is hosting a party for 200 underprivileged children. Later in the day, he visits a stadium where he is scheduled to perform in January 1997.
On July 18, 1996, Michael Jackson arrived in South Africa. He immediately went to Nelson Mandela’s villa, where he made an appearance at a private party celebrating Mandela’s 78th birthday.
