Can we talk about the insane levels of mischaracterization that happened in the Good Omens movie? Because? Crowley's decision alone is horribly ooc, as is Aziraphale's willingness to go along with it. We know their opinion of this version of humanity and their unrelenting fight to give them a chance. That's literally the plot of s1. (yes, free will complicates it, but not enough to justify their decision). We also know from s2 (Jim not being Gabriel, Job's children not being replaced, etc.) that they view experiences and memory as what defines a person and how they love the world. Copies (of humanity and themselves) are not, and would never be, who they care about protecting.
Also, the lack of PASSION from them for each other, the Earth, humanity, and their friends is so unsettling. This is not the Crowley who shoved Aziraphale against a wall in s1 or the Aziraphale who was shaking and touching his lips after Crowley kissed him, or who giddily dragged him to the dance floor. Crowley spends so much of the series just pining and pining and trying to convince Aziraphale to run away with him and create something just for themselves. So why have Crowley suddenly wish for the opposite? With the flimsiest explanation possible? This is the biggest distinction from book!Aziracrow and why I think the ending translates so poorly. In the book, their cooperation and friendship stem from a shared love for humanity, but the show demonstrates time and time again that they are companions because of their love for each other (s2 solidified that). There is never any discussion in the novel about running away together or wanting each other more than they want to protect humanity. That's only a complex that emerges in the show (which is why the romance ends up hitting so much more). That ending just does not translate to Aziracrow as a romantic pairing.
The more I watch this mess of a movie, the more disenchanted I become with every writing choice they made. What a bummer to end 7 years of fandom like this.
The destruction of the entire universe and every soul in it is a truly depressing ending. Just because God replaced it with another universe that looked similar doesn't change anything - this is Job and his children all over again. Job doesn't want new children, and neither do I.

but crowley and aziraphale? as in the main characters of the show who shared a love story over 6,000 years. they DIED??!??!?#?!
The only kiss they ever shared was shrouded in fear and desperation and grief. They never got to just. Hold each other. And kiss each other because that's what they wanted to do, not what they thought they needed to. All of Aziraphale's love never got to be put into practice. FUCK!
