even with his reassurance , grace still wouldnโt be surprised if when they got on the ice bennett couldnโt help the laughter from escaping him , not that heโd try to do that anyways . she wishes she could reach up and playfully shove him in the arm when he brings up the penguin walkers again , but sheโs too focused on keeping a good grip on his hands to avoid falling over as she seemed prone to do . โ balance over the blades โฆ i should be able to do that โ she takes in a deep breath , doing her best to ground her feet before taking one ( slow ) step after the other following bennettโs lead , holding onto him so tight that he couldnโt let go of her even if he wanted to . โ okay , i think this is far enough for now โ nerves taint her laughter , a hand reaching out to immediately grab onto the side wall when she loses his supportย . โ how did you do that so fast ? โ she asks , the answer to which is more than obvious .ย
she waits for him to settle himself on the ice , only making any slight movement when he has his arms reached out to her again. โ how else am i supposed to know where to put my feet ?? โ the dramatics are starting to come out , but she knows the only way toย get on the ice in one piece is to listen to what heโs saying . eyes stay locked on him , hands still holding onto the wall as she takes a step onto the ice . she wants to say something snarky about how it was a piece of cake , but sheโs so worried about keeping herself upright she canโt even think of anything to say . she reaches out for his hands first , securing herself in his grasp before she practically drags her other foot into the rinkย . โ bennett , lookย โ i did it ! โ her smile is beaming , she doesnโt even freak out when the momentum causes her to glide forward a little bit once she gets both feet on the ice . โ if you just pull me around like this does it count as learning how to skate ? โ her playful nature returns , though sheโs essentially frozen on the ice , nervous of the potential catastrophe that would come with moving her feet any more than she already has . โ okay so far iโm alive ,ย now what ? โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ weโll have you skating properly by the end of this โ just you see, โ ย ย bennett reassures her, though heโs really in no place to be making promises like that. however, itโs always good to go into things with a positive mindset. grace can ironically be filled with a seeming lack of it โ but heโs seen clumsy figure skaters before ( though more often than not, heโll admit there seems to be a correlation ). a laugh leaves him at the suggestion โ though quietly, he had predicted the session might come back down to that. ย ย โ iโll pull you around for a bit to let you get more comfortable in the skates โ โ ย ย he decides after a moment, smile tugging at his lips. ย ย โ โ i wonโt go too fast, promise. and then we can see about getting you going under your own power. โ ย ย
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย skating is certainly one thing that comes naturally to him and it shows in his ease ( even with grace clinging to him ), though heโd also admit that itโs a little odd to be without all his gear and stick โ freeing in a different way, like all the family and friend skates. he straightens up a bit, moving slowly backways, working up their momentum gradually โ a sharp contrast to the explosive speed heโs capable of, but certainly more appropriate for their setting. ย ย โ try not to lean too far forward when i pull you โ then youโll end up falling on your face. center of gravity โ โ ย ย he briefly gestures to her midsection the best he can without upsetting her vice grip. ย ย โ โ over the skates. โ ย ย theyโre gliding pretty well now, bennett with an occasional glance over his shoulder to make sure theyโre not about to run into anyone โ luckily, the rink is pretty empty. perks of being a college student, he supposes. ย ย โ all right, weโre coming up on a turn now โ youโre doing great, just let the momentum carry you. โ

ย ย ย ย Murphy nodded, all eyes and ears and pretty much his entire being focused on Bennett. This is probably in his top five favorite positions while looking up at his best friend. It would have been in his top three, but theyโre outside and there were other factors here. โ I always make good points, โ he starts, halting at the pull of his shirt and Bennettโs lips landing on his upper lip. Okay? That was smooth. โ Uhhh โ โ Murphy continued right after, his fingers grabbing Bennettโs wrist, the one hovering near the zipper of his jeans. โ โ quit doing that. โ He pretended to glare, lips curving into a simple grin almost immediately. โ Iโd say a six, โ he decided, subtly moving one leg and securing it on the backs of Bennettโs thighs, locking him in place. โ Okay, a solid five-point five. โ Brushing his lips against Bennettโs, Murphy grinned. โ Should we go? โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย a smug look crosses bennettโs face as murphy grabs his wrist against, gone as soon as it appeared and replaced instead with amusement at murphy determining their odds of finding this elusive not-wine basement. that too wavers as he feels one of murphyโs long legs hook around his thighs, his expression finally settling somewhere between smug and fond. any thoughts of properly claiming victory quickly dissipate as murphys leans in once again, their kiss more a tease than proper โ a promise. bennett canโt help but delay them a moment longer, pressing back in when murphy draws back for a deeper kiss, one that feels a bit more proper. ย ย โ should we ?? โ ย ย bennett echoes with a straight face when he finally takes his leave, his hand ( the one murphy had moved away ) settling back on the thigh of murphyโs leg keeping him in place โ as if he himself hadnโt been the one boxing murphy in only moments earlier. he could muscle his way out of this if he really wanted to, and maybe thatโs what murphy wants. ย ย โ okay, letโs find this wine cellar or whatever, but iโm not carrying your ass. โ
bcalrightsโ:
โ NICE DOING BUSINESS WITH YOU. โ itโs a win-win, she figures. good company with a free milkshake, and bennett gets a seat in an otherwise crowded diner. soleil takes the jacket from him, turning briefly to drape it across the back of her own seat.ย โ sure thing, โ the girl replies, sliding over the bowl beside her.ย โ hardly. iโve got band rehearsals tomorrow and iโm overthinking lyrics. feels like what i usually do when iโm idle for too long. โ blue hues sneak another peek at the notebook in front of her, letting out a soft laugh.ย โ either that or itโs the grease in the air. iโll give america this: iโve never been to a diner i didnโt like. the health hazards are just part of its charm. โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย bennett huffs out a laugh, methodically peeling the lids of two creamers and dumping them into the coffee mug, the spoon clinking in a familiar tune as he gives it all a brief stir. ย ย โ oh itโs definitely the fact that bacon grease just gets into everything on the griddle, โ ย ย he says, chin tipping forward a bit to gesture through the window they can see through to the back kitchen. ย ย โ itโs what makes everything taste good โ sober or drunk, no matter what time of day. โ ย ย the waiter comes by to take his order ; bennett gets his usual ( bacon, scrambled eggs, homefries with onions, toast ), ย ย โ โ oh and a strawberry milkshake when you get the chance. โย ย he hasnโt forgotten his end of the bargain either. attention swinging back to sol he gestures at her lyric notebook, bringing his coffee up for a quick sip. ย ย โ maybe you should give it a rest for a while โ staring at your lyrics more isnโt going to help with overthinking. โ
ofmvrphyโ:
ย ย ย ย โ You said you wanted some air and some quiet time, โ Murphy reasoned, shrugging a shoulder. โ If you wanted some fancy genuine alfresco you could have said something. โ He wanted to say heโs no mind reader to amp up the banter but decided against it. Besides, Bennett was grinning, so theyโre technically both winning. He pretends to not notice that Bennett hasnโt moved, or that heโs doing things with his hand again. โ I โ what? I was on a rhetorical roll. Thereโs definitely an underground something, Iโm certain of that, at least. โ Whether they will fit or itโs got enough room, they will eventually find out. If they decide to go โ better yet if Bennett planned on moving his finely formed hockey ass. โ We might be. Does that make you Ben Gates and Iโm the President of the United States? You donโt strike me as the Riley Poole type. โ And with that, Murphy tugged Bennett closer once again. โ So? โ
.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ so โ โ ย ย bennett echoes, grinning as murphy tugs him closer โ further banter is tempting ( you want something, zabala ?? ), but not quite attractive enough to him in the moment. sometimes, even with all the patience in the world, thereโs no need to stave off the inevitable. heโs getting there, murphy is too โ bennett knows that with the same surety when he knows a pass is going to connect. ย ย โ hmmm โ you make a good point โ โ ย ย his fingers make a show of smoothing over the collar of murphyโs shirt, tracing his collar bone before skimming lower to fist his shirt, tugging gently but firmly, closing the last space between them. he presses a kiss to murphyโs top lip, grinning as he barely pulls back, the hand still on murphyโs thigh resuming its inching upward path. ย ย โ on a scale of one to ten โ โ ย ย one finger traces murphyโs fly nonchalantly. ย ย โ โ how sure are you about finding this underground passage ?? โ
mrrkwccdโ:
โplease, do you know how often the pros are hungover?โ she laughed, before wincing - the headache was settling in, and sheโd have to go raid graceโs cabinets for some ibuprofen before she stumbled home. hopefully bennettโs feast would sober her up enough to let her do so without getting too distracted. โthis is why i just do intramural now - i mean, i donโt even think we have a real softball team, but i had a scholarship to a couple schools offered if i went to play for them, but whereโs the fun in that? then i gotta be sober, like, too much, and some other kid probably needed the scholarship money more anyways.โ sheโs tempted to lift the bacon out of the pan, though she knows itโll be a bad idea, so she pulls on her hair and starts braiding it instead. โfried, please. i just want simple and easy and to eat it asap - i donโt think i ate before i showed up tonight which, iโm like, having deep regrets about right now.โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย bennettโs mouth presses briefly into a somber line, but he doesnโt reply, focuses instead at the task at hand, flipping the bacon as he nods along to merrickโs words to show heโs listening โ or at least acknowledging that sheโs speaking.ย ย ย โ you should eat some carbs too โ โ ย ย he says, deeming the bacon done enough and scooping it onto a plate and setting it off to the side between the stove and where merrickโs sitting atop the counter. he fully expects her to start munching away at the pieces before the eggs are done โ itโs not a diner after all, and bacon is irresistible hot off the griddle. the grease sizzles as bennett cracks a couple eggs into the pan, waits a few moments and then turns down the heat. cooking isnโt really something he excels at beyond the basics, but he likes how mundane it feels โ a basic need that everyone engages in. ย ย โ โ you staying with grace tonight or headed home after this ?? โ
mmmm would you go for natemac's anti-carbonara gameday approach or tazer's plant-based agendaโ
" as a society we've come pretty far with PLANT BASED foods, let's be real. i just don't think i could function properly without a carbo-load before game days . . . besides, who doesn't love a good chicken parm the night before, right ?? besides, have you see tazer's ass ?? he's gotta be doing something right. no disrespect to the dogg though โ 18.5 carots of new bling, so he's gotta be doing something right too . . . even if it's ugly. "
kill, fuck, marry ; sunset hill โ
" i mean . . . it's obvious, right ?? i'd get rid of those people who walk in slow moving mobs that just hog the entire sidewalk and don't move outta your way, y'know ?? it's one of my pet peeves, really โ and then murphy x2. "
do you like either of your best friendsโ
" murphy knows i love him โ who's my other best friend ?? . . . โ em, is that you ?? just because i left your laundry in the rain doesn't mean i don't like you. "

she nods - she canโt imagine trying to cook bacon right now, the grease would surely burn her and while sheโs had her fair share of injuries from cheer and softball, sheโs a bit of a baby, especially when sheโs as intoxicated as she is at the moment. โi promise not to kill you,โ she swears, solemn before a smile breaks wide across her features, her feet dangling off the counter sheโs sitting on. โi donโt think i could even hold a knife in my hand right now anyways, and my real violence usually comes with throwing objects - so i promise, youโre safe. besides, anyone who helps feed others is a-okay in my book.โ she watches him quietly for a moment - the partyโs died down, some, but thereโs still enough people floating in and out to say it isnโt over quite yet. โhow come youโre sober? i figured everyone was drinking for alcohol poisoning tonight - did you have fun, at least?โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย hopefully the partyโs died down enough that the smell of bacon doesnโt draw out every other drunk and stoned individual from the woodwork โ bennett isnโt holding out hope, but he does know that itโs also a pretty big house. he lets the slices do their thing, settling one hand against the counter to support his weight ( hopefully, she likes it crispy โ most people do ). ย ย โ designated driver โ โ ย ย he says with a vague wave, though itโs without any trace of contempt or gloom for it โ truth is, he usually offers. bennett pauses, picking up the spatula again, poking at one of the crisping pieces sizzling again, before he glances back over at the blonde with a rueful smile. ย ย โ โ and iโm getting too old to be showing up to practice hungover and sweating beer from every pore. but yeah, โ ย ย cue a good natured laugh.ย ย ย ย โ i still had a good time. โ ย ย a very good time actually, but most things with murphy are. ย ย โ howโdโyou like your eggs ?? โ
seraphinarhโ:
thereโs only so much you really get to know someone when you tended to keep things more surface level. they were friendly and cordial, the way neighbors are. itโs routine to make small talk, but nothing too in depth. โyeaโฆ i used to be until i was like seventeen, and then i started becoming this version.โ she admitted. sera was really quiet throughout her formative years. never really had too many friends and wasnโt someone to go out much. things only changed sometime in her junior year when she met her best friend. since then, her more introverted nature seemed to disappear expect for some choice moments. she laughed and nodded in agreement. โitโs still entertaining. itโs like watching trashy reality tv โ except itโs live and as real as it gets.โ she remembered the nonsense she went through at that age. a lot of tears and even more drinks, โoh, nothing, iโm just nosey. maybe tell someone back home? probably notice if theyโre still on campus together or not. overhear some more shit? you like to people watch?โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย bennett hums in acknowledgement and a bit in agreement as well. people change a lot โ heโs keenly aware of this : that none of them are the same people they were when they graduated high school, from when they started college, and even from the time they were an underclassman. growth is a normal event of life, and bennett likes to think thatโs a reassuring thing โ than nothing will ever stay as it is ( but sometimes, itโs a little sad too ). ย ย โ itโs ecology, โ ย ย he decides after a few moments. ย ย โ everything intertwined with one another, especially on a campus like this even though we donโt always notice it. โ ย ย heโs still picking at the corner of that shingle and probably should stop. he doesnโt.ย ย ย โ people watching can be fun โ i suppose thereโs something satisfying about hearing about other peopleโs drama and not getting sucked into it in the least. โ ย ย bennett huffs a laugh at that. ย ย โ you could call yourself an anthropologist, though it probably is best that you donโt write your findings down in a book. โ
noahtranterโ:
โthatโs a shit job, man,โ noah laughs and nods his head,ย โi do? thatโs because i really fucking need it. but yeah, i have time. i have exactlyโฆโ he looks down to his phone,ย โan hour and twelve minutes.โ he booked the studio from ten am to one pm and heโs sure he wonโt be able to deliver anything good without caffeine in his body. โbut yeah, an apology coffee sounds great. i hope it has hazelnut syrup in it,โ he grins and puts his phone back in his pocket. โyou wanna go to rainyโs? itโs close to the studio.โ rainyโs is a small coffee shop not many people know about. mostly musicians and producers who go to the studio, and they even have a discount for being a part of shu.
.
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ thatโs on you, โ ย ย bennett says lightly, shoulders rising in a shrug โ heโs talking about the hazelnut syrup, and then about the cafe suggestion. he likes to think heโs a pretty good cafe connoisseur, especially going into his final year here at sunset hills, but he canโt say that heโs ever been to rainyโs either โ too far from the life sciences building and the hockey arena, and even when heโd been dating sadie, sheโd had her own haunts where the theatre kids liked to hang out. ย ย โ sounds good to me โ โ ย ย heโs not in any particular hurry either, happy to stretch his legs in the nice sunny morning air and avoid having to hunker down and finish that midterm essay he really wants to finish before the next roadtrip. ย ย โ โ you gotta lead the way though โcause I canโt say I know where that is. โ
BENNETT : aesthetics
STARTER FOR: @nasrinfmโ EXTRA: nasrinโs apartment
ย ย ย ย ย a love of animals was something bennett would never shake โ it might have even been his first love, even if hockey was often said to be that ( itโs just a matter of probability, he was around horses will before he could even put on skates ). but though hockey took over a great deal of his time, he was glad he could still find pockets of time for volunteering at the animal shelter, and short dog sitting gigs like the one he had with nasrin and teddy. heโs in her kitchen, prepping teddyโs diner time meal when the door creaks open, something that might be alarming if not for the excited way teddy immediately bounded toward the door. bennett follows a bit more slowly, food bowl in hand and smile on his face as he watches the joyful reunion.ย ย ย โ someoneโs happy to see you โ โย ย ย he says, clearly amused.ย ย ย ย โ โ donโt worry, iโm not offended. โย ย ย if it was anything he loved most about dogs, it was their staunch loyalty to their owners.
seraphinarhโ:
โyouโre the grandpaย โ i never thought you would be,โ she commented between a few small chuckles. an ironic take given that was her position this evening. โgood luck wrangling โem,โ she added. sera probably just needed a few days of sleep to be feel better. she wasnโt eighteen anymore so the back to back days filled with the club atmosphere and tons of shots were starting to add up. at least, for this evening. โitโs better sitting up here then down there,โ her index finger gesturing towards the front entrance of the home. โi wouldnโt be able to get as much tea as i did. plus, i canโt leave my friends. girl code 101.โ they also werenโt supposed to separate, but sera could handle her own. a party atmosphere was what she navigated through daily โ drunk college student didnโt compare to grown men. she just wanted to be alone for a little and she figured the roof would do just that. โiโve heard so many fight tonight. i swear, itโs like everyone on campus are doing some type of sneak shit.โ
ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย ย โ i didnโt take you as a fly on the wall type โ โ ย ย itโs not meant to be accusatory, not even surprise coloring his voice, more an observation than anything else โ a limited observation bennett realizes. theyโre friends, by the loose modern definition of the word, but heโs under no illusions that they really know anything about each other. ( and perhaps, even that is not so rare between friends these days either ). besides, everyone needs a moment to get away from everything at one point or another. he cranes his head forward a bit as seraphina points, trying to see past the gutter of the house to get a better view of the walkway below. itโs quiet now, or at least relatively so. ย ย โ โ but that doesnโt seem so surprising, does it ?? โ ย ย he settles back, glancing over at seraphina with a shrug. ย ย โ everything seems like a really big deal when youโre nineteen and drunk. โ ย ย heโd definitely seen no shortage of underclassmen when heโd been inside, always almost hilariously standing out from the rest of the crowd. bennett picks at the corner of a shingle with his fingernail, ย ย โ โ whatโdโyou plan on doing with your newfound power ?? โ
