I have to echo this sentiment. Folks have been sending me petitions and such and while I appreciate everyone’s effort on our side, I feel like tumblr is past the point of no return. Tumblr’s backwards obsession with identity politics coupled with their historical inability to make money makes for a severely troubled past and an even shittier future.
This site is already anemic after their shitty cringe-worthy announcement. No amount of flex tape, or petitions or memes is going to repair the damage that tumblr did to itself or to us. I’ve watched my follower count plummet for a week now. They could take it all back but it won’t heal their reputation. I was able to look past the whiny politics of this site to use it as a haven for art but it’s clear from their announcement that they don’t give a shit about art unless it conforms to them and their political views.
Artists who aren’t staying here to put up with this bullshit aren’t cowards, they’re brave/ smart for leaving or staying gone. It was a great art website that shot itself in the foot because they were too inept to handle their own problems, so they make their userbase pay for it. I’d rather leave than try to stay here and force tumblr to wipe it’s own ass.
And really who are the fucking cowards here? The artists who repeatedly get stepped on and swept under the rug, or the big spineless company that would rather pander to social justice than to artists that actually make money?
As a nsfw artist, tumblr has nothing to keep me here. I’m not going to stick around after the 17th.
Yes, I think I can speak for an overwhelming majority of us when I say “we like our followers” but if you really enjoy our work in return then you’ll follow us to better platforms that allow (Twitter) or even embrace (Newgrounds) nsfw creators. It’s time to stop beating the dead, rotting horse that is Tumblr.
Wow, I never thought I’d use this site for it’s apparently “intended” purpose, which isn’t art, but complaining.
