@bylerlesbian
congrats to the winner(s) of Ships Week 2026 💙💛
I saw a post earlier where someone said that Mike would write a fantasy book based off of the party’s adventures, and then a few years later it would get added to the school curriculum and he’d have to deal with everyone shipping Cleradin, and I’ve been thinking about it all day, so here’s my own take on that.
Mike writes a fantasy series based on the party’s adventures, and it kinda blows up and by modern day it has a huge fandom, like comparable to the Percy Jackson or Hunger Games fandoms, and Cleradin is the biggest ship. But when he wrote the books, he was in a really bad place and didn’t think he (or the character that mimicked him) deserved a happy ending, so the series ends with the most devastating tragedy ever. Idk what it’d be, maybe they die or just never see each other again, but like the ST fandom with S5 the whole fandom hates the ending. Also everyone totally thinks Mike is homophobic because he ruined Cleradin’s ending when everyone thought they’d end up together.
Skip forward a few years, Mike hasn’t written anything else for the universe, end everyone thinks it’s over. But some film company wants to adapt the series, and it ends up happening. Jonathan is definitely a big part of the adaptation. And this somehow leads to Byler getting together in their 50s or however old theyd be, and Mike realises that the characters deserve a happy ending.
SO, he rewrites it. The fandom is all expecting to have to go through the pain of watching the absolutely devastating ending from the books play out on screen, but then it DOESNT HAPPEN, and Celradin ends up together, and the fandom goes completely insane. It goes down in history as one of the most beautiful queer love stories ever.
And, after the final episodes have aired, a documentary is released about Mike and Will’s relationship and how the story was entirely based off of them, and it was them finally getting together that got Mike to rewrite their ending, and the fandom goes insane all over again, because not only did their favourite ship become canon in the best way possible, they literally exist in real life.
Oh and Cleradin are played by Noah and Finn, because obviously. It’s the whole ST cast in fact.
I’m still thinking about this and I have a few new thoughts. Instead of the film adaptation being what pushes Byler back together, it’s Byler getting together that prompts the adaptation. Mike kinda hates the ending he wrote just as much as his fans do, but he just completely lost the spark that he had for writing, and so he accepted that it is what it is. But then him and Will get together, and maybe it was the books that got them together in the first place (maybe Will read it and realised Mike was in love with him) and finally accepting himself and learning to be happy gives Mike the motivation to want to fix what he did. So he reaches out to Jonathan, who by this time is a well respected filmmaker, and asks if he’d be up for helping adapt his books into a tv show.
After Mike explains what he wants to do, Jonathan is so on board. The show starts production, and the whole fandom is going insane. Most of the Cleradin shippers are extremely dubious of this show, originally thinking it’s just a chase grab that will ruin the story even more, but a lot of people are also really excited because wdym Jonathan Byers is directing it?? I’m imagining that up until now Jonathan has only made pretty niche indie movies, most of which are very political, and many of which have queer themes and characters, and so once the fandom realises that this is the guy in charge of the show, they start to get hopeful. And then the first series comes out, and it’s everything they could have hoped for and MORE. There are subtle changes to the plot and characters that point towards good changes in the future, and the whole show is just so well made, and it’s so obvious that there’s so much love and care poured into it.
As the season are released the show gets more and more popular, and the fandom is very much divided between the skeptics who think the whole thing is queerbait and the ending will be the same, there’s just no way it’ll be better, and the people who are so sure that Cleradin is going to happen this time and the ending will be completely different and absolutely perfect. By the time the final season drops, the two sides are fully at war, it’s just like Mileven vs Byler, even the general audience is on the edge of their seats waiting to see how it plays out. And then it happens. Cleradin is canon, and in the best way possible. The finale is completely different to the book, it’s incredible, it’s perfect, it’s everything the fandom has ever wanted.
And when it cuts to black after the final scene, there’s a dedication:
For my cleric, I’m sorry it took me so long to give us the ending we deserved.
And then the credits roll and it’s pictures of the Party, and Mike and Will, and it reveals that it was always just about them, it was their story. The credits finish with a picture of Mike and Will, older but looking so happy and in love, next to Cleradin’s actors (Finn and Noah ofc).
I’m imagining that they somehow kept it a secret the whole time that Mike had a boyfriend, because I think if people knew about that then it would be pretty obvious how the show was gonna end, and they wanted to keep it a surprise. So the reveal is even bigger, because the fandom gets born Cleradin AND Byler, and it’s just incredible. The interviews after the finale dropped would be insane. The scheming old gays lmao.
I kinda wanna write this now, but idk how I’d do it. It’d probably have to be a mix between prose and social media au to properly convey the fandom side of things. I might also make it so that Mike has a daughter who helps Byler get together and generally causes chaos on the internet, but idk.
he’ll trap you… and you still choose him.
Imagine. Will gets taken by the military after episode 4, so Mike and Joyce work together to get Will out of there. Meanwhile the military is trying to get information from Will about El but Will obviously says nothing, so the military decides to inject him drugs like they did with Steve and Robin in season 3. Joyce and Mike rescue Will but he is completely drugged and saying nonesense but as he doesn't know what he is doing or saying, he tells Mike the truth about the painting, he confesses that the painting was not from El, it was from him, Mike gets shocked and doesn't know if he is telling the truth because he is drugged. When Will gains consciousagain, he doesn't remember anything and it's Mike who confronts him about the painting.
genuinely what the actual… fuck ?
continuously trying to prove that it was mileven all along by reheating byler nachos is so embarrassing honestly like even the writers of these damn characters can’t deny it that byler was destined to be canon bruh
is it better to speak or to die? except neil chose to speak and he still ended up dead, and mike chose to die and he still has to live with himself
You’ve heard of buff byers. Now, I present to you, buff fem.byers.
You seem pretty conservative for a show about outcast
hey remember when mike literally dragged a half conscious will away from the battlefield cause that was some serious paladin cleric shit
the fact that people can see me makes me kinda uncomfortable at times
