Tero común (Vanellus chilensis), ave típica de gran parte de Sudamérica, fácilmente reconocible por sus intensos ojos rojos, su pecho negro contrastante y su particular canto “teru-teru” que le da su nombre popular. Habita en campos abiertos, humedales y hasta en zonas urbanas, donde suele llamar la atención por su carácter vigilante y territorial, defendiendo su nido con gran valentía. Además de ser un símbolo del paisaje rural, cumple un papel importante como controlador natural de insectos y pequeños invertebrados.
