Venice beach 2024, trying my hand at color theory. I did not plan this. My untrained eye picked up on some complimentary and analogous colors. It’s a start. I know what to do next time I’m in Venice Beach.

In the labyrinthine gully’s and forgotten corners of the Grand Pazar in Istanbul, 2026

Dusting off my street photo eyes at Lakeland’s 2026 Punk Rock Flea Market hosted by Swan Brewery. I’ve debated turning many of these shots black and white but decided to keep the color instead. It was hard to find separation among people in the crowd and the color helps.

My goal was to shoot through the viewfinder and avoid shooting from the hip. That I achieved. I got pretty daring which I am glad came back to me after a nearly two year hiatus. I also tried looking for complementary, triad and analogous colors. I managed a little but also lost many shots.

Street vendor carries a tray of simit, probably on his way to his usual spot on the Bosphorous. A simit is half way between a bagel and a pretzel and covered with delicious sesame seeds.

2026. Working people in the Istiklal street area of Istanbul

Fur clad tourists at the ticket counter outside Galata Tower caught my eye. This area was full of tourists spilling over from Taksim square through Istiklal street towards Galata tower. Initially I resisted photographing tourists as they were not “true” istanbullus but in this part of town tourists belong just as the locals do.

These bros at Venice beach wanted my insta so they can tag themselves. July 2024.

I want my street photos to be candid. However I am inextricably part of the environment. So I let myself be and take the shot when these bros recognize my hustle and want in.
