THE MODERN SUFFRAGETTE The uniform was created as a new Suffragette uniform, perhaps not to help women to fight for the vote but to stand in solidarity against issues that might not be seen as paramount in the current political climate. There is still a continuous fight for equality, less than equal pay, the tampon tax, to name a few. In early May a woman was told to leave work unless she went out and bought heels, it begs the question as to whether the Suffragettes’ work will ever be done. I have taken inspiration from the women around me: my mother, my tutors, my friends. They are all women who have multitudinous roles, a characteristic to which the Suffragette uniform conformed due to its being tailored to multipurpose style and design. The clothes move away from the militant aspect of a uniform and is hidden in the form of casual wear and are designed for movement, to be able to fit the many roles that women have to take on.

Elena Lucrezia Cornaro Piscopia * The first women women to receive a Doctorate degree. The Catholic Church refused to allow her to study for a degree in Theology but relented and allowed her to study for a degree in Philosophy. During her exam, she dazzled her examiners who decided that her knowledge surpassed even that of a doctorate degree.  As well as receiving a degree in Philosophy she was also awarded the Doctor's Ring, the Teacher's Ermine cape, and the Poet's Laurel Crown.
