What makes a perfect caesar salad?
My ranking system is not complex, it relies on a few factors: lettuce, cheese, dressing, croutons, and presentation. A caesar salad isnāt complex, you can add chicken (a topic we will touch on later), and maybe you can add some bacon. But if you take it much farther itās no longer a classic caesar, which is what I am here to review.
I am very passionate about caesar salad, and I want to share my rankings.
Caesar Salad Review 16: Del Vecchios
Oh me oh my we are finally making money! Having a job means the ability to afford a new home, our own washer and dryer, and of course, more caesar salads!
Del Vecchios is an awesome place to get a bite to eat! Theyāve got a wide variety of different italian foods and I love their bolognese sauce with all my heart!
They, of course, have a caesar salad on their menu.
I unfortunately forgot to ask for no tomatoes on their salad since Iām just not a fan of them (especially not cherry tomatoes!!). The nice thing was they were easy to take out though! We also got two free garlic knots in our salad!!!! I love garlic knots!!!!!!!!!
So this salad was made fresh, the dressing had a fresh taste as well so it was pretty obvious this was something they had made fresh in the kitchen. I love a fresh caesar, and I was pleasantly surprised with this salad!
The dressing was a bit sweeter than what I was used to, but the flavor was still really good. I do prefer that there be some cheese in the dressing to boost the anchovy flavor but this dressing was still superb.
The lettuce was a bit big. I love lettuce but you should really cut them in half to make the salad look bigger and be easier to eat!
They had my favorite type of cheese, the big shavings! Perfectly shaped and sized, as all things should be.
The croutons were good flavor wise but a bit too crunchy to pierce with a fork. I donāt think that takes away too much from the salad but I always like a croutons you can pierce.
Overall Iād give this salad a 7.5/10! It was really good and Iāll be ordering it again :)
Caesar Salad Review 15: Galactic Pizza
My lord. My god. Holy moly.
So itās pretty well established at this point that I like caesar salad. If I see one on the menu I order it. Recently Iāve started looking for more local places to go get food from.
Admittedly it can be hard to go to non chain places as an autistic person. Consistency makes it hard to deviate, but Iāve been working on it! Why, five years ago I wouldnāt even eat a caesar salad! But now itās one of my favorite foods.
Galactic pizza is a bit far from us in Avl. Itās more in Arden and I did feel a bit guilty having my partner drive us back in the same direction he goes to for work.
But holy fuck was it worth it.
This saladā¦. was immaculate. I love a creamy caesar, personally I think itās better that way. A lot of homemade caesar dressing struggle with this. But not this dressing. I had them give us extra to take home it was so scrummy. It was perfectly tangy and if you concentrated you could totally taste the fresh anchovy paste in there! I was in love with this dressing.
They added so much parmesan I felt like I was in heaven. Perfect amount, could not be better.
The croutons were chefs kiss. Perfectly soft and stabbable, but also packed with flavor. They were buttery, I wanted to just eat more croutons. It was wild.
Overall I give this salad a perfect 10/10 score. Fuck man, I give it an 11/10. This may be the best caesar Iāve had at this point, hands down. I will be dreaming of this salad and I implore you to travel to asheville just to have this salad.
Caesar salad review 14: 828 pizza
Iām a caesar man with a caesar plan and boy oh boy I couldnāt wait to review the caesar from 828 pizza.
828 is a local pizza place in Asheville with some of if not the best pizza in town. Thereās some hot contenders for that spot like Asheville Pizza and Brewery but today weāre going to talk about 828.
Funny enough when I first moved here 3 years ago 828 was the first place I ate at when my family came to visit. They not only have great pizza, but a great variety of side dishes that are so freakin good. I almost always just order an extra meatball on the side when I go because itās that good!
I think I had tried this caesar before but that was a long time agoā¦ š¬ š¬ š¬
So of course I had to get it for my blog!
Oh. My. Godddddd.
This caesar is so good! Itās a perfect take on a classic caesar. Sometimes I feel like I glaze stuff too much but I think Iām just a wholesome salad enjoyer trying to expand my pallet slowly. This caesar was so good though.
I love a creamy dressing and this was perfect, the cheese was super good too, Iām not sure if thatās related to aging or something but boy oh boy is good!
I loved the croutons and the big bread pieces it came with!! I loved this salad so much and am still thinking about it long after Iāve had it!
Overall Iād rate this salad a 10/10! I want it and will be thinking about it frequently.
Caesar Salad review 13:
Panera Bread
Iām only about 60% sure iāve had a panera salad before but this was my first time having one while I have my blog!
My partner and I have a silly little tradition where whenever we preform a specific action in the morning without planning the occurrence, we go to panera and get breakfast.
After graduating college it turns out I donāt wake up until about 10:30 am if given the choice. So we spontaneously happened to go to Panera today!!!
I wanted the mac and cheese but after seeing the menu i knew what had to happen and the caesar was ordered.
Now I am pretty sure the lettuce wasnāt freshly cut but I was ok with this. Romaine can be good prepackaged you just have to make sure itās not rotting.
The big pieces of cheese impressed me. I like cheese and funny shaped cheese wins some extra points from me.
As for the croutonsā¦ I dunno. Maybe my gums are sensitive but these hurt!! I was using a metal fork to pierce them so their softness is still up for debate. Bread is bread when it comes to taste most of the time thought so these were good too!
And now for the dressing. The dressing was good. It was mostly a vinegar based dressing and I do prefer a creamy dressing but the flavor was immaculate! I think it was a bit light on my salad but hey, tasty salad is tasty salad
Overall Iād give this salad a 7.5/10! I would absolutely order it again and maybe request some more dressing. It was super good and a super simple caesar for anyone looking for one!
Caesar salad review 12: Papas and Beer
With undergrad graduation quickly approaching Iāve been too busy for some time to have a good caesar salad review. I actually almost did one a few weeks ago but their caesar had been changed to a kale caesar and i personally find that blasphemous.
So letās get into it.
Papas and Beer is kind of an Asheville thing. Basically everyone goes there once, they have great drinks and food and itās just a lively little place overall. I donāt know how I never noticed their caesar before, maybe because itās a side salad and I hadnāt started my blog yet, but regardless I saw it on the menu and we had to try it. I will admit this was my boyfriendās salad because my meal didnāt come with one.
The lettuce was superb. Youād think you canāt mess up lettuce but youād be shocked how often that happens. The cheese seemed to be a cojita cheese, a type of mexican cheese thatās mild in flavor but super creamy. It also had pumpkin seeds and a light dressing on top.
So the good parts, I think cojita cheese is a good choice for a unique caesar. Itās not so different that you notice it immediately and itās a bit of a different flavor. The dressing was good too but it really wasnāt a caesar dressing. It had a lime flavor to it and honestly I thought it was ok. Iām not huge on citrus flavors in savory food, I donāt know why, but I thought it worked ok.
I donāt like pumpkin seeds so honestly that did detract from my experience here. And once again the dressing being more like a caesar twist was something i wasnāt expecting so it threw me off.
Hereās a fun fact for you guys, the first caesar salad was actually invented in Mexico! Thatās right, this classic delicious dish comes out of the country with the best food out of all the countries Iāve been to! I shouldnāt be shocked but itās been exciting to learn that everything delicious originates in Mexico.
Alright so overall Iād give this salad a 6/10. Iād order it again if I get the chance and I might pick around it but overall itās a solid salad.

Caesar Salad review 11: Suburban Tap ATL
Wooooooweeeeee itās been a hot minute since Iāve had a caesar. I had one about 10 days ago at this little place called suburban tap and let me tell you, boy was this thing a salad.
Suburban tap is kind of a joke in the community, not a lot of people go there and get somehow itās remained open for years. Their food is all incredibly mid so I wasnāt expecting much in terms of salad.
I got my first legal drink all on my own and panicked when i was ordering so i ended up with a vodka lemonade. It was scrumptious.
Ok onto the salad
So I do like the crunchy part of the lettuce, Iām not afraid to say it. And this salad was surprisingly devoid of crunch. The croutons were there and they made up for it, but Iām a lettuce guy and I just canāt help it.
The parmesan was really big and thick but honestly I liked the flavor of it. The dressing was also pretty good overall and I think this salad was just the most average caesar Iāve ever had. That doesnāt make me dislike it at all so Iād rate this one a perfect middle with a 5/10 croutons.
Caesar salad review 10: Lolaās burger and tequila bar
Oh boy Iām back in ATL baby and was out with some friends when I spotted this caesar on the menu.
Now you guys know by now, if youāre an avid caesarsaladreviews follower, that my feelings on caesarās arenāt complicated. You need the lettuce, the cheese, the croutons, and the dressing for the most basic version of a caesar. And this did have all of that.
But the croutons may look a bit suspicious if youāre a caesar enjoyer. They donāt look crunchy.
And thatās because they werenāt.
Croutons need to be some what crunchy, thatās like the whole point. I donāt think these were bad, they were more like cornbread than a croutons though and it wasnāt the best. The texture really threw me off and I was trying to just get it over with when it came to them.
Now the cheese, lettuce, and dressing were all fabulous. They used a different type of cheese than I usually expect but I actually thought it was pretty good!
Overall I think Iād give this salad a 6/10 but if Iām being honest I donāt know if I would order it again.
Caesar salad review 9: Cornerstone AVL
Oh man oh boy oh me oh my itās time for another salad review. Itās been so long since Iāve had a fresh caesar salad in the wild but today we went on a nice little date to a place we keep saying we want to go to: Cornerstone.
Now the menu was still limited due to the damage from Helene and likely also the depletion of their food stock from it. But they had a great array of food and it was scrumptious.
Originally we thought they didnāt have a caesar salad, I actually just found out that Chiliās got rid of their caesar and that destroyed my plan for reviewing that salad.
But when we got there and were handed the temporary menus you can imagine how excited I was to see the caesar.
So youāll notice a few things about this caesar: itās got onion, itās got a cucumber, and it has olives.
I donāt eat olives so I just gave them to my partner who likes them. I was skeptical of the onion, my mom and I both like dipping cucumber into caesar dressing as a snack so I can let that one slide but Iāve never seen red onion on a caesar before.
It was really good. The cool thing about the pieces being so big was that you could easily remove it if you wanted. The flavor was really good and I think the addition worked amazing!
The dressing was super good too, creamy and a bit sweet, I fuck with it heavy. The croutons were a bit crumbly but they were also so good. So many to go around and nicely seasoned too! There was the perfect amount of cheese too.
Overall I was super impressed with this salad, bringing the total score to an 8.5!
Caesar Salad Review 8: Packās Tavern
We have water after two months! Two whole months of bottled water and fearing what was coming out of the pipes. Which means businesses are opening back up! Iām really sad to say that a lot of my favorite shops and small businesses have had to close due to the impact the hurricane took on them. Packās Tavern is not one of these places luckily as itās a staple to AVL for a lot of people.
Yes I have lived in the city for 3 years and yes this was my first time here next question. My mom and I got their caesar to split because she wanted my review on it. We added grilled chicken and this was our salad.
The lettuce was good, it was fresh and cut to size. As was the cheese. There was extra cheese to add but I liked what we had going on.
Now the dressing was disappointing to me. I felt like it was weirdly flavorless. It wasnāt a bad dressing by any means but I was hoping the flavor of it would be more front and center. The dressing can really make or break a salad. The croutons on this thing were immaculate. They were perfect. I loved them.
The chicken wasā¦ interesting. It was grilled and I normally love grilled chicken on my caesars. But this one was way too grilled if that makes sense. It would have been good on its own or on a sandwich but in this salad it didnāt do the whole thing a lot of favors. I found myself not eating the chicken mostly and instead eating that more on the side.
Overall this was a solid salad and I will for sure order it again when everything is a bit more normal here. I would give this salad a solid 7.5/10 rating and look forward to having another.
Caesar salad review 7: Fresh express chopped salad kit
With the water being in out in AVL itās been a while since weāve had a sketti night and tonight was that night. We bought a bottle of cab sav, air fried some frozen meat balls, and made a prepackaged salad.
By now my partner knows about this blog, we started it together basically. So he knows to pick a salad mix we havenāt had before to get a new view
And holy shit?
The lettuce was all fresh, the cheese was perfect, and the caesar dressing itself was a bit unique but worked super well for this salad. My main criticisms were that the ācroutonsā were more or less just bread crumbs and the dressing could have used like the tiniest bit more, but overall i was super happy with this salad!! the only thing we could add more of was this exact dressing, which was perfectly tangy and creamy. 8/10 from me!
Caesar salad review 6: Bistro prepackaged caesar salad
Weāre back in Avl baby and nowhere is open so today I got a Bistro caesar salad for dinner. Along with this to commemorate the most recent election iāve made myself a drink I call the red wave. Itās about 50% vodka and 50% of an artificial strawberry soda that tastes like shit! Just like this election!
So to start I need to mention this; the Bistro Santa Fe Salad was the first salad I ever tried with a dressing and other ingredients and enjoyed. It was what sparked my salad revolution, and I need to mention that.
That being saidā¦
This salad isā¦ bland. The lettuce in these is often tinged brown or red, and I had to sort through at least three other prepacked caesars to find one that wasnāt bulging or pressurized. Most notably about this caesar is the fact that it has two prepackaged chickens but no croutons. But I am no fool. I always come prepared with my own croutons.
The dressing was good, I wish there was a bit more of it but otherwise I was happy with it. The cheese is oddly flavorless? I donāt really know how to feel about that honestly.
The chicken is boring, it tastes like deli meat. Very bland. I wish it was grilled or seasoned or something.
Overall the salad was just fine. I think Iād give it a 4/10 before I added the croutons and a 4.5/10 after. I really do still enjoy the santa fe salad from them but this one is just meh.
Can you guys stop talking about this āJulius Caesarā fellow? I only care about the real caesar. Caesar salad.
Caesar salad review 5: Mellow Mushroom
God I was excited to review this salad.
Like Iāve said before a caesar salad is simple. And Mellow god damn Mushroom has it perfected.
Everything about this salad is perfect. The amount of cheese, the dressing flavor, the size of the lettuce. I cannot emphasize enough how much I love this salad. The croutons from here are perfect. They were a bit burnt today but honestly it didnāt detract from the salad at all. I can easily eat an entire large one of these.
This caesar salad is the most scrumptious I have ever had easily giving it a perfect 10/10 score in my book.
Caesar salad review 4: Homemade caesar dressing
My mom mentioned to me that she had a really good homemade caesar salad recently so we asked her friend for the recipe and decided to make it tonight.
The recipe is as follows:
1 egg yolk
1/2- 1 tbs anchovy paste (we didnāt have this and it isnāt necessary to add)
1 lemon juiced
1 tsp of pepper
2-3 garlic cloves
1 tbsp dijon mustard
1/4th a cup of red wine vinegar
1/2 cup of olive oil added as you blend
and just a bit of worcestershire sauce
We also added some parmesan cheese because come on. Cheese.
I thought this dressing was amazing. The only thing we wished we had was the ability to make it more creamy. The flavor is good, itās a bit tangy but it was still really really good. I think the anchovy paste would have made it better honestly.
The croutons we had were cheese crisps since my dad is on keto and croutons are a slippery slope. I thought they worked great for this salad. We also added some bacon, giving it a slightly savory taste as well.
I went back for seconds and would consider this an absolute win. Total score of 7.5/10
