a. Felix Café

A.Felix Cafe is a cafe located in Masai of Johor Bahru that operates from Monday to Sunday, 9am to 11pm. This cafe goes with its value to provide a relaxing corner for people to enjoy a cup of coffee, whilst indulging in the beauty of simplicity at the same time. We are greeted with a cleanly decorated bar counter with simple brown and white accents, and the signature logo of a.Felix in blue and white framed on the wall at the back. The surroundings of the cafe are mostly furnished with pastel colours, relaxing ambience, and well kept furniture and decoration. The food ordered is well presented with its tableware, looks palatable and appetising enough for us to enjoy our time over there, smooth latte, succulent chicken, crispy nuggets, savoury pasta, and well-balanced waffle in terms of sweetness and crispiness, as well as the spongy layered cake. Overall impression: We are satisfied with the ambience of the cafe, the comfort it provides for customers to enjoy a simple meal, with friends or family. For a cosy and 'bright' cafe of this kind, we would prefer to spend time here with friends or recommend couples to spend their good time here instead for a simplistically good meal.

Vanilla Bean - Coffee X Patisserie

Vanilla Bean - Coffee X Pattisserie is a cafe located in Persiaran Senibong, Johor Bahru, that operates from 9am to 10pm daily. The cafe emphasises its inability of being a jack of all trades, but is capable enough to serve customers with their signature cup of coffee, handcrafted home bakes, with the finiest and freshest ingredients they have chosen. Free of any ornated decorations over the interior of the cafe, it is consistently freshened with a row of artwork over the walls, beside the dining sets, portraying a basic design language over the cafe. Although there may not be much work put into the presentation of the food, as they are placed on a generic blank plate, the food itself looked really appealing on its own which we would deem as a more critical element to have us engaging it with our taste buds. As for the beverages, there are also inviting with its layered look and additional points for the decorated coaster underneath. Overall Impression: A good place for appetising desserts to one's heart's content, a cafe that put up to its promise of quality coffee and desserts that is easily worth of a visit.

La Strada Coffee

La Strada Coffee is a cafe located in Permas Jaya, Johor Bahru, that operates from 10am to 10pm daily. The cafe signifies the message of a cup coffee is a journey with a story of its own. During daytime visits to the cafe, the ambience is kind of gloom, but with the sunlight shining through the windows, it is balanced out with a cosy lighting. The environment is modern-paced with uniformed decor on the walls, contrasting carpet, elegant wooden table tops with fine lines, cushioned chairs and constantly adjusted lightings to fit the mood of the day. Yet, the food presentation may have lacked in work, such as inadequate food to platter contrast, placement, and colour arrangement. Overall Impression: There is definitely room for improvement over the presentation of the food and beverages, otherwise, the cafe is still likeable for its environment. After all, the mentioned improvement is really a crucial factor as it is the thing that attracts customers for another visit.

UFB -Union Fashion Bar Garden

UFB-Union Fashion Bar Garden is a cafe located in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru, that operates from 11:30am to 1am on a daily basis. This cafe is construted under the concept of a unique New York Garden theme, that serves an all day dining menu, a combination of desserts, dine-ins and bar. The exterior of the cafe is built with blue rooftop with fans hanging for outside sittings, a few dining sets, coated in brown and black colour, feels breezy and airy enough for those that enjoys sitting under the sun without the extra sweat. Across the wall along the street is painted with a visual art paired with the UFB branding. Entering the cafe present us with a bistro-styled countertop with an integrated cake display, and the interior dining sets of glossy wood and stools, checkered wall art with artificial grass, that are both enticing for a good casual dine-in session over. The food and beverages served are generous in volume and tempting in smell and taste, that are also presentable visually. Overall Impression: The cafe maintains quite a standard on quality control for its environment and the food and beverages served, quite a recommended introduction to cafe go-ers in our opinion.

Passionfood Cafe and Bakery

Passionfood Cafe and Bakery is a cafe located in Taman Pelangi, Johor Bahru that operates from Tuesday to Sunday, 12pm to 11pm during weekdays, and 10:30am to 11pm during weekends. What makes this cafe special is not limited to its passionate motto of serving passionately homemade cuisine, but also the fact it's located in-between common household area and is built on one as well. Like the terraced house around, the cafe have a rather limited parking lot, therefore other visitors would have to park their car beside the street and walk over. Since the cafe is built in a terraced house, it possess a natural cosiness and we felt as if we were at home during our visit. The ambience is on point and as comfortable as we are in the cafe, we do not feel like we are in a public area at all. The dishes presented are of the typical Western way of arrangements on blank plates but are already looking delectable on its own for us to dig in. Overall Impression: We appreciate the moment when we are able to make ourself at home in a cafe. This is the place should you want to have a feel of indulging in cuisine offered by a cafe at home.

CATS Cafe JB - Cats At Their Sanctuary

CATS Cafe JB - Cats At Their Sanctuary is a cafe located in Abdul Samad Lorong 2C, Johor Bahru that operates from 12:30pm to 9pm daily. Aside from the obvious implication of a cat-themed cafe the brand name portrayed, this cafe actually houses live and kicking cats for customers to interact with, be it a photo-taking, cuddling, playing session. Besides the artwork and decors of cats, the variety of different species of residential cats are a joy to experience with, a well-kept space for customers to spend their time indulging in their meals and companion of the furry kids. Generally, the cafe is just a cosy-conceptual cafe like the usuals, but also installed with several kind of platforms for the cats to roam around from different altitude, an adorable sight to behold. The gloss-finished dining table fits with most of the presentation of food in a minimalistic approach, nothing too distracting during our dining session despite the potential of cats interrupting by jumping up the table. Overall Impression: Animal lovers that do not have issue with allergies and not concerned about potential hygienic issue do feel free to have a visit, the space where freedom of animal and human interaction exists during a meal.

The Replacement - Lodge & Kitchen is a cafe located in Bandar Johor Bahru, Johor that operates from 10am to 7pm daily. The cafe is taking in a modern and contemporary approach in its design style, with a blank slate of white ceiling coupled with fluorescent lightings in a mixture of black and white lamp shades, and the rest of the furnishings in neutral colours except the wooden tables. The food presented in the porcelain platters and trays are a nice addition to highlight their style in presentation of their dishes. Although the taste of the dishes is by no means inferior, they focus more on the aesthetic of them. Overall Impression: A stylish cafe on a modern and contemporary approach for its styling in presentation of its dishes and environment, therefore, an advisable choice for those concerned more on the visual element.

Cremme

Cremme is a cafe located in Abdullah Tahir, Johor Bahru that operates daily except Tuesday, from 11am to 10pm. Magnificence and extravagance are the two words we would select in regards to the architecture and layout of the interior and exterior of the cafe. Comprehensively, it is built with dense and quality finished wooden infrastructure all around, with other materials of colours to complement it. The lightings are warm and decently dimmed in our opinion, bringing in a cosy and delicate ambience we adored. Presentation of the dishes are only mediocre considering the standard of its environment, though not so much as a distracting factor, we are satisifed with how delicious they were. Overall Impression: Great ambience. Plenty space. Elegegant surroundings. Recommended.

Cheot Nun Korean Dessert Cafe

Cheot Nun Korean Dessert Cafe is a cafe located in Kim Teng Park, Johor Bahru that operates from Tuesday to Sunday, 2pm to 11pm. A special cafe that is special in its offering of serving specialised Korean Desserts. That's it, we visited the cafe in hunt for our craving for some desserts, specifically the Korean desserts of this one. The exterior of the cafe consists of framed transparent glass and brick walls, with a few sittings for dining in front of the cafe, and the interior arranged with a long couch for lean-back relaxtion, a few coffee tables and chairs around, that is similar to some of Starbucks Coffee in the state, and cosy but sufficiently bright ambience for a good reading session there. The desserts we have ordered though, come in an unexpectedly generous serving, do not skimp off in its ingredients and presentation at all, they looked so alluring and that every mouthful of the dessert taken in feels dense, flavourful, and satisfying. Overall Impression: Looking for a cafe specialised in offering desserts, albeit a Korean one, in generous amount complemented by a calming environment? This is doubtlessly one of our recommendation for it.

Bonbon Bakery Cafe

Bonbon Bakery Cafe is a cafe located in Taman Molek, Johor Bahru that operates from Thursday to Tuesday, 12pm to 10pm. As its name depicted, this cafe emphasises on bakery goods, more specifically, french pastries as its main type of cuisine served. First step into the cafe presented us with a minimalistic interior design with grey and white accents, coupled with some abstract decorations, as well as simplistic wooden stool and table as the dining furniture. What we have ordered are pancakes, brownie, pie and other pastry that are well presented in its style, colour accents, and creativity too. They also taste good and subjected to our liking for a tea break that craves for french pastries. Overall Impression: We would recommend dessert lovers to have their visit over this cafe as obvious as it is, a cafe that serves pastries as its primary dish.

Monsta Cafe

Monsta Cafe is a cafe located in Skudai, Johor Bahru that operates daily from 11am to 1am. The interior design of this resembles the harbour front because of the colour sceheme, blue and white, and the overall furnishings are quite random, such as the green scenery on the wall that poses no link to the branding or theme of the cafe. The dining sets are considered “childlike” too, the design scheme confused us on what kind of ambience that cafe is trying to present to its customers and for us, it felt more or less like a kindergarten-based approach. To be honest, the random furnishings turned us off as it does not even rhyme well or complement each other, that the presentation of the dishes are only so-so under the lightings, and a glance over the environment made things harder for us to enjoy in the cafe. It just lacked so much in the presentation of itself to its customers, way too insincere. Overall Impression: Unless you have a thing for design language of this kind, that we do not even consider it being abstract of artistic in any way, we have couple more of recommendations for you to refer to.

Just Want Coffee Sutera

Just Want Coffee is a cafe located in Taman Sutera Utama, Johor Bahru, that operates daily from 12pm to 12am. Similar to its Factory 30 counterpart resided in Taman Mount Austin, this is another branch of the same brand in Taman Sutera Utama. Compared to its branch in Taman Mount Austin that is factory-themed, this one lacked in distinctiveness. The dining set used in this cafe is kind of common, but once complemented with the ambience over there, it exudes a comfortable cosiness for us to enjoy. The ordered brunch and pizza are lacking in terms of presentation as the contrast in colours made it looks less appetising and the cramped dish is considered impractical by us, and more or less, the waffle is still acceptable. Overall Impression: We would recommend this branch of Just Want Coffee for consumers that have not tried the brand before, but for a more distinctive experience, we would definitely recommend the branch in Taman Mount Austin instead.
