Fun fact: The film’s opening sequence, in which Darling unwraps a hat box on Christmas morning and finds Lady inside, is reportedly based upon an actual incident in Walt Disney’s life. After he’d forgotten a dinner date with his wife, he offered her the puppy-in-the-hat box surprise and was immediately forgiven.
This is one of my favourite Disney facts.
3x15: The Boiling Rock Part 2
My name is Zuko. Son of Ursa and Fire Lord Ozai. Prince of the Fire Nation and heir to the throne.
I- I just can’t get over Zuko and his arc. Everything he did - everything - was out of this insane drive to prove everyone wrong, to prove that he was worth something, and it amazes me that he never realized just how valuable he already was.
His sister tells him ‘You waste all your time playing with knives. You’re not even good!’ and he masters dual swords.
His sister is a prodigy and he’s told he’ll never catch up. He learns from dragons. He trains the Avatar. He takes her down (with the help of a very skilled waterbender)
He’s left behind by his mother, cast out by his father, hunted by his sister, and Zuko still learns unconditional love.
His father tells him he’s worthless and unloved, that he was ‘lucky to be born,’ and he becomes a man that the world is proud of.
Anything his family said to him, he managed to turn around and build on it. He thrived on it, exploded from it, turned all the negativity into a positive path and it’s just… it’s amazing.
There’s just no end to my love for this character. No fucking end.
Bonus: The weak, banished prince has fangirls for all the ages. Take that, Ozai.
A spring bookmark I crossstitched.
The flashback Zuko just doesn’t talk about
Morse Code A Visual Guide
sammiwolfe important to our lives lol XD
Oh oh my god now Morse code actually makes SENSE when you lay it out like that
Awesome!!
This is also nice, if you want to decode morse code quickly.
that avl tree though
That’s not a coincidence! Naturally, it’s less work to transmit shorter sequences of dots and dashes, so we try to use up all the shorter sequences first. Basically, this means that we fill in all the branches at one level of this tree before moving onto the next. The result is a perfectly balanced decoding tree.
The placement of the letters is also far from arbitrary. Here are all the letters in English ordered from most common to least common:
ETAOINSRHLDCUMFPGWYBVKXJQZ
Notice something? The shortest morse code sequences were assigned to the most common letters. This makes the common letters easier to remember, and makes messages as short as possible in the average case.
Numbers are sort of an exception to this. All numerical symbols are encoded with 5 dots and dashes. But there’s a pretty clear pattern to these as well.
1 = .—-
2 = ..—
3 = …–
4 = ….-
5 = …..
6 = -….
7 = –…
8 = —..
9 = —-.
0 = —–
So if the listener hears a series of 5 dots and dashes, they immediately know it’s a number. To decode it, they count the number of dashes. If the dashes came before the dots, the number is 5 + the number of dashes. Otherwise, the number is 5 - the number of dashes.
Morse Code is neat.
Happy Father’s Day!
Please take the rest of this day and your lives to think about this throwaway line from Bitter Work wherein Iroh freaks out and says that he’s not going to shoot lightning at Zuko. Please think about this. Please think about the fact that Iroh adamantly did not want to shooot a weapon at Zuko. Please think about the fact that Iroh did not want to hurt Zuko. Please think about the fact that Iroh would never want to hurt Zuko. Please think about the fact that Iroh would never hurt Zuko.
Please think about the fact that Iroh would never hurt Zuko!
(11+ years later and I’m still discovering things about this show!)

ANCIENT PYONGYANG:
PYONGYANG was the capital of several successive ancient Korean kingdoms. Located on the Daedong (Taedong) River in the north of the peninsula, the site was chosen by the legendary Dangun (Tangun), founder of the first Korean state Gojoseon (Gochoson), to be his capital city on earth.
Pyongyang remained an important city throughout the following centuries and served as the capital of Wiman Joseon (Wiman Choson) and the Goguryeo (Koguryo) kingdoms, and was the western capital of the Goryeo (Kuryo) kingdom. The modern city, located on the same site, is today the capital of North Korea.
