This is Rainbow Angel, our tribute to Matt that now sits in Cowboix Hevven in Houston. I’m a year and a half late. I was looking for photos of these hands and realized I never posted pictures of this guy, finished or unfinished. Cole, Cat, Sofia and I sculpted him, and Matthew Erdmann designed the armature. Many more skilled people contributed to build and wire and figure him out. I sculpted the hair and the hands, and I’m quite proud of both. They’re made of instamorph, and I did a lot of r&d to make the fiber optics and tattoos work right. Cat is responsible for his remarkable wings and hat. Cole made his face. We all chipped in on sculpting and painting his body. Building this was very bizarre, very bittersweet. It was an honor to build him, to sort of make him a new body out of indestructible materials. To study his posture, his style, and to share in the sweet sadness of all knowing these things by heart already. “His elbows should be more out, his back more hunched. His boot toes more pointed up. Yeah more like a crazy spider monkey yes exactly.” During the process I got a tattoo added to my hand in homage of his, which I helped him design anyway. I wanted to get his hair perfect, because it was beautiful and because I thought it would be important to him. It probably isn’t (perfect or terribly important to him) but I’m proud to have tried. I’m not sure why today is the day to finally post about this project, but I miss him. I miss Matt the person, and I miss the insistently present spirit that was around constantly the first year or so after he died. I don’t see him much anymore, which is healing I suppose. It’s funny to miss the rawness of grief, the closeness found in the pain of it. I know he’s right here, and I know he’s out riding rainbows and exploring the other side. Come back and visit more often eh?

Infinite petal hourglass 🥀 Animation attempt #3 This one working from an existing drawing, using it as as frame 1 (you can see a flash of darker outlines). I wanna make this a couple seconds longer eventually though this took like 3 or 4 hours so…

Painting and sculpture installation in the window at @hechoamanoorg (: now
Thank you to so many of you for coming to see it Thursday!! It’s up through November 30th and since it’s in the window, you can see it any time day or night ☺️
Painting: 6.5 x 8 feet, acrylic on plywood. Lit sculptures: instamorph, glass, led lights. Assemblage: paint, artificial plants, wax paper plants, cut fabric, holographic vinyl, cotton fabric, etc
It’s difficult to photograph art behind a window! I’d prefer to get a better shot of the whole painting but here it is.
The white forms, the “fruit”, are from a dream! Other than my ever growing love of leaves, the painting entirely started as a color idea - painting blue over a vivid orange base color.
This whole thing came into being in under a month of nights and weekends and a few days off work, with the very necessary help of Jon and Emily and others, mainly painting artificial plants bright colors. Even in my personal art I need help from friends to generate large quantities of foliage!

Another Living Thing 5 (6th in series cause the first one was just called A Living Thing) Paint pen (posca and deco color) and acrylic on panel 22 x 30 I think? Revisiting this series after almost a decade because the owner of the fourth painting in the series asked if she could commission a painting, preferably of a snake. She did not request that it be so much like the painting that she owns, but I got excited about working in that same style again. The series is about the fractal interconnectedness of living systems. Ecosystems in ecosystems in ecosystems. Emergent individuals, sandcastles, eddies in the stream. This conglomeration of cells and spirit is called a snake by certain other collections of such 😛 I like that the snake in this one, as a line itself, could be a zoom in on any of the lines that make up the plants. Wiggles all the way down (: Thank you Brooke and Lauren for the reason to play with this series again, it was so so fun to make! I’m including the others in the series at the end of the slides. The dog is from 2016, opossum (Brooke’s) 2014, tiger (sideways) & two bigfoots from 2013
Honored to have been invited by Kalyn to design a tshirt for wheelchair sports camp ‘s recent record and music video release ✨✨✨ Kalyn and crew shot their music video inside convergence station, in their installation - Wheelchair Space Kitchen - and the nearby exhibits Gremlin Symphony & C-Street.
I was so enamored with all the chrome styling that I couldn’t think of drawing anything else, so I went chrome crazy 😛 Drawing all that chrome lettering took forever but in the best way, it was sooo much fun to do! It’s an iPad drawing, procreate with the 6b pencil tool. It’s four color / four layer and maybe the shirts are 4 layer silk screens? Or maybe they’re digital prints I don’t remember haha
You can buy the record (and the shirt if there are any left!) at the meow wolf Denver / Convergence Station gift shop, and see the music video on YouTube or on their profile wheelchair sports camp
Thank you for the fun opportunity 😘 ✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨✨ 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍 🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵🩵 🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶🩶 🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤🖤
Some sketchbook recently, all doodles while listening in some meeting or other. Drawing helps me listen, surprise, and I’ve always known this is using both the visual and verbal parts of my brain at once, but I’ve recently realized that the tactile element of pen on page is just as important. I was watching a presentation a week or so ago and I didn’t have drawing tools and I was having trouble not checking my phone or computer, so I started focusing on the textured elements of my phone case and other stuff around me and it totally worked. Drawing is image creation but it’s also definitely just stimming too! I wonder how many of us got good at drawing because we are drawn to the stim.
“Earthling” Acrylic on panel, 3x4 feet The character is … people. It is a monster, a gross scary twisting pile of pink stuff, and it is a beautiful strange swirling piece of the landscape too. It’s a piece of the nature it’s tumbled in, and it’s apart from it. It’s spooky and yucky and sweet and just enjoying laying in the grass. It’s a biological body both luxuriating and lost in a cataract of earthly beauty 💚💚💚💚💚💚💚💚
Spook
"Willing Captive"
Spirit in a tree, daemon comfortably tangled in nature, a life form enraptured by the life around it, a willing captive, just a lil dude enjoying the view, turning to see what you’re up to. This board is one of many leftover “planets” from the mural I did behind the bar at The House (mw Santa Fe) 🪐 Painting on a funny shape makes photographing a painting much harder, especially having used dark and shiny paints on a rough textured board. Uh, acrylic on cnc cut plywood. Maybe 16”x20”?
