“Is this the part where I say I’m triggered and you console me about it?” He joked, the obvious sarcasm in his voice was followed with an amused smile. “Kidding, I learned how to wipe my own triggered tears a long time ago. Ya’ know, had to learn without a mother and all.” Again the sarcasm was evident. There was no telling if Landon was just messing with the guy or if he was being a smart-ass at this point but he was entertaining himself nonetheless. “So you’re a big anti-holiday guy, huh? I mean, gotta say I agree and I gotta be honest and say I use those excuses to get off work and drink to my advantage.” Landon added, as he looked at the other. “So I’m guessing with your dislike for any other holiday and your excitement for Mother’s Day must mean you’re pretty close with your mom? Her day beat out any and all reservations you have for other special type days. — and look, I hear coffee cups and overpriced wine usually make all the moms go wild.”
Caleb initially thought he’d gotten himself into a bit of deep water.Thankfully, the sarcasm in his inflection soon manifested, and he couldn’t feel as guilty anymore for what he’d said. There was still a slight twinge of culpability, thinking he’d brought up something like an old wound that would never quite heal on its’ own. “You had me there for a second...” Relief was a good way to describe the way he felt. “I thought you’d take this opportunity to kick my a’ — or in the very least just throw something.” A bit of a suppressed laugh escaped him like a cough. “I respect your honesty,” he told him with a slight nod and small smile. “If you ask me, most ‘holidays’ are really just pagan and not really ‘holy’ as the word holiday seems to suggest. Christmas celebrates the supposed birth of Jesus, but nowhere in the Bible does it ever give a specific date for that. If you search a little bit deeper, then you find that December 25th is ‘traditionally’ known as Nimrod’s birthday, also Osiris, Jupiter.. basically, other representations of the child-God of the Babylonian religion system. Again, pagan. Same thing with Easter, which I won’t even get into, because I’ll just end up going off on multiple tangents, and you probably don’t want me to do that.” He chuckled, mostly to himself. “Yeah, you could say pretty close. I think I call her more times than she likes to call me. I’m just obnoxious like that. Probably don’t need a ‘special type’ day to treat her to anything, but I mean, work gets busy, so why not? I don’t think you can ever go wrong with expensive, luxurious wine, huh? Do you drink any? Thanks for the tip. That helps.”
