Scans from Gwyrch from 2001 by Get out and explore Via Flickr: In the wake of the Gwrych Preservation trust chaired by the great Mark Baker buying Gwrych castle this month, i thought it a good opportunity to look back at some shots we took in 2001, these are scanned off photos taken at the time of our visit, hopefully in another 17 years from now with Mark at the helm things will be very different
Gelston castle by Get out and explore Via Flickr: Gelston castle was built for William Douglas of castle Douglas in 1799, moving forward to WWII , it was requisitioned by the government and used to house handicapped boys evacuated from Glasgow, , after it's use was finished after the war at some point the roof was then taken off, as was so common with many of these fine buildings, nature takes over and is slowly breaking it apart
Abandoned viaduct over loch Ken by Get out and explore Via Flickr: The Viaduct was built 1860, comming into use in 1861 this carried the railway from Dumfries to Port Patrick, sadly it became a victim of the Beeching cuts in 1965 , then it went into private ownership and was used to cross from one side of the loch to the other by motor vehicle privately , then it was just used to walk across , it is now declared unsafe and is fenced off,

Anglesey central line Amlwch
The Anglesey central line was 17.5 miles long standard gauge, connecting the port of Amlwch with the town of Llangefni , with the North Wales coast line at Gaerwen. The line opened in stages between 1864 to 1867, but in 1964 the passengers felt the wrath of the Beeching cuts, industrial freight continued until 1993, the tracks still remain and much talk has been had regarding restoration as a heritage railway , and a cycle route has also been proposed, early 2011 the Welsh assembly along with Network rail started a feasibility study, but here we are in 2018 ,7 years on with an overgrown railway. The stations were as follows Amlwch associated Octel Amlwch Rhosgoch tank farm branch line Rhosgoch Llanerchymedd Llangwyllog then it crosses the Llyn Cefni Llangefni Red Wharf branch line Holland Arms then at Gaerwen joins the North Wales coast line

just a part of the vast complex
Denbigh Aslylum, also know as Denbigh hospital and the North Wales hospital was begun in 1844, and completed in 1848, it was originally intended to house 200 people but by the early 1900's house somwhere in the region of 1537 people, it had it's own farm and gasworks, it's planned closure came from Enoch Powell in the 60's and it was closed in sections from 1991 till 1995, today it is a grade 2 listed building, but sadly has seen so many fires over the years the most recent being in February 2017 and July 2017, it's now reputedly beyond economical repair, so it remains to be seen what now happens to this fine building

Milkbank house | MIlkbank kennels and lodge just a short dis… | Flickr
MIlkbank kennels and lodge just a short distance from the main house , little information can be sourced about this wonderful place, the main house originally shows on the o/s maps as an L shaped building but the later issues show a much extended place, it is unclear weather the original building was extended or rebuilt on the grounds of the old house, hence buildings at risk put the date at 1895 with a question mark, unbelievably the main building is not listed but it is on the buildings at risk register, the kennels nearby are also of the same status although they were occupied until much later maybe the 1980’s where as the main house according to some records was demolished in the 1960’s evidently it was not, but it was deroofed and gutted as sadly was the trend back then to relinquish the owners from taxes
