This is my first attempt at creating a publication piece (film poster) for the Quentin Tarantino film: Django Unchained. I feel this piece worked well because it sets the fight mood for the film. I did this by selecting colors that i felt ran consistently throughout the film e.g. Oranges, Reds etc.

Context

The context of my work to create a piece of publication for a for several different artists, musicians, directors who’s work I enjoy. The public icons I have chosen are people who I feel are original in expressing their work and I feel that can enhance my originality further. This will include album art, posters, t-shirts, flyers ect. I will use my knowledge of the artists work to do this in my own style, reflecting how I perceive the work (image, aesthetic, style) whilst creating work that meets my brief and my audience will enjoy and purchase.  

My audience will be both the artist I am creating the work for and the artist’s fan base. I will cater to the artists/musicians taste by studying past design work used by them. Doing this will give me a strong idea of what style and image they want to give themselves and their work, also it will stop me from heading in the wrong direction that the artist is intending to go in. Being a fan of  the public icon I choose to design work for, will help me because this enables me to make work that I know  and the fans will relate to. I could also ask a number of the icons fans some questions. For example:  what they like about the work, what the image they see in their mind when asked to think about the work ect. I will document any research into the artist and their work/fans.

I decided, because i wanted to work with film and music, that i would choose some film stills that i would like to recreate in illustrator. 

This is an iconic image from Quentin Tarantino’s Pulp Fiction. Once i had the actual image drawn up i also decided to add some of my own type.

These are designs i created for my own album release.

The first image is the album art, i wanted to create a simple shape that would be easy to recognise but represented the letters in the album title (DFNKT).

The second is a picture i uploaded to my facebook page to create curiosity among my fans, the numbers un the middle the album was released.

This was my second attempt at using illustrator. i was experementing with different compositions and colour palettes.

This is my attempt at combining the geometric style i used in my sketches with a photos of my class mates. I used the facial features and the colors to define the compostition and mood of the peices.

This was my first experience using illustrator so i found it difficult to translate my ideas but i am glad with the overall outcome.

These are initial sketches, I had the idea of combining type/wording with simple geometric shapes that work together to create a peice of work. I especially like how the pencil creates a smokey effect in the second peice.
