I talked a lot about harry potter on the facebook page for the comic. I did some twitter polls. I think the conversations were interesting, so if trans feelings on harry potter sounds interesting to you, it might be a fun, long journey through threads of me being sassy about harry potter. If you followed along (sorry lol), what did you think? How do you feel about this topic/convos?

Okay can someone explain to me why Harry Potter is so controversial? Why do people hate everyone that likes Harry Potter?

And before you hit me with the “JK Rowling is transphobic”, I know. I know she is. I’ve known since she said she had a “middle aged moment” or whatever. But I don’t understand how the creator being a shitty person means you have to hate what they made or else you’re a shitty person??

When did we start living by those rules?

Don’t say “Harry Potter is badly written” either. Because that’s an opinion and that’s fine. I’m talking about everyone pretending like Harry Potter is some big taboo controversial topic.

Even if the creator is a transphobe, Harry Potter has cultural significance and plenty of trans people like it. I just sincerely do not understand why the books are linked to the creator. You can like something while still being critical of the creator, that has been a thing for, like, forever!

Harry Potter, the creation, is not transphobic just because it was made by a transphobe. Reading it does not make you a bigot. Enjoying it does not make you a bigot. Not acknowledging that the creator sucks makes you a dummy. That’s it.

Sorry, who said harry potter fans are hated? The polls (plz actually review stuff I mentioned in the post before writing an essay…) and comment threads on from trans people on where seeing people publicly supporting harry potter makes them uncomfortable. it’s not about hate, and it’s a little disingenuous to imply it is. You should be critical of content && the creator, and there’s a lot of writing on problematic aspects of Harry Potter. It was even critiqued as conservative at the time of it’s release.

if anyone is upset/embarrassed because they like harry potter and they are upset about my harry potter takes and surveying trans folks (from all sides, actually read the posts)… I get that. That’s valid. I’m sure it sucks, but noone is making you prioritize trans feelings over a media franchise. You do you. But even if 10% of trans folks feel uncomfortable about folks publicly supporting harry potter (which does support the creator in various ways, if not directly financially)… I do not think that is negligible… You might, but I don’t and IDK… that’’d be enough for me, because I like to not upset people for reasons like liking problematic media that is lterally owned/created by the most vocal transphobic celebrity… IDK what else to say other than that’s an extremely bad look and I personally find the polls and hundreds of comments and in-depth writings from trans people to be pretty compelling.

Sounds kinda dismissive of trans or lgbtq people who like or liked Harry Potter imo (like me, trans), but for lots of us we liked those books/movies and now have complicated feelings, but still have love for some of the stories and ideas and characters from those books (the character was living in a closet hiding his true self, and confused about who he was, can you imagine why we related to it?!)

It's not trans feelings vs Harry Potter fans, those of course overlap, it's a franchise with so many millions of fans.

And yeah we all consume media and products that are some degree of problematic, we're not perfect, and the stuff we consume isn't perfect, any of us.

I don't wanna sound too negative, I like OPs comics and blog and still follow

Thanks you! I love quotes, and I've never done a handwriting ask, though it's hard to think of quotes off the top of my head, it's similar to using tumblr posts to help express thoughts I struggle to express myself, I often like to compile things instead of create from nothing.

One serious quote that is famous from Mahatma Ghandi and probably others saying versions of it (like even people who I like, I get very frustrated when they are okay with vengeful things, like for example supporting queer people shouldn't mean you hate non-queer people, they didn't choose that, bigotry is bad, being born different is not bad, and it's not like queer or other minority people are free of bigotry we all must try to do better.),

How's my writing look? it's definitely not super cutesy unfortunately haha, but I think it's fine, usually pretty legible at least although this was done a little extra neatly.
