There's a lot of people out there who don't know how to have fun, who can't cut loose, kick back, go wild for a while. Luckily I'm not one of those people.
I'm about to turn eighteen, and I refuse to be tied down to anyone's limitations but my own. Not my parents, not the schools, not the cops. Not anyone's. I make my own rules. I'm like a wild stallion, strap me down and you get bucked off. My life is party, party, party, all the time, and I wouldn't have it any other way. The exhilaration of making a risk, taking a chance, whatever you wanna call it. I live for it. Toying with intoxicants, meeting new people, dancing with danger, anything I can get my hands on.
Every night is a prowl. My life is one big misdemeanor, and I'm just getting started.
I roll over, glancing at my alarm clock. 12:00am. Oh I turned, making sure the hallway light was off, and jumped out of bed fully clothed. I slipped on my carefully positioned boots and grab my backpack, sneakily sliding open my bedroom window. I looked down, seeing my best friend waiting in the yard. I climbed out of my bedroom, lowering the window and propping it open just a crack with my hidden stick. I put my shoulder into the other strap of the backpack and slithered down the roof to the edge, dropping down next to V.
"Like your hair." I said adjusting my backpack.
Via wasn't like my other friends. She and I were bound together by years of friendship, we've been best friends since kindergarten. Just us, cutting other girls hair, putting glue on other kids seats, sticking sticks in the slide. She was almost as hardcore as me. Almost. She was a little on the thicker side, smooth white skin, black hair with roots she dyed dark purple, dark eyebrows that emphasized her hazel eyes, and the silver septum she'd somehow kept hidden from her parents.
"Did your mom catch you?"
"Na, she had a Xanax after dinner so she's out cold." Via said holding her moms prescription bottle.
"You ready?" I reached into my backpack pulling out a beer.
"Ready." I said popping open my can, taking as many chugs as I could before tossing it into my neighbors bush with a loud cackle.
"May! Keep your voice down!" Via hushed as a dog barked in a nearby house.
"Who cares!" I laughed, throwing my hands into the fresh night air. "Nobody's ever gonna stop me!"
"May!! Come on!!" She yelled dragging me down the street as some house lights turned on.
We walked down the sidewalk hand in hand to Lizzy's, sharing a cigarette. V reached for the cig, her jacket riding up her arm, exposing purple and blue bruises on her forearms. I couldn't help but look. She caught my stares, pulling down on the sleeve of her jacket, taking an inhale. Via's dad had left her mom a few months ago, leaving V and her youngest two sisters to tend to her mom's wine and bars streak.
"You don't need him V, he left your family when you needed him most. Fuck 'em." I said puffing the cigarette, passing it to her. She shook her head.
"Did your mom do that?" I asked, kicking a can. "You didn't tell me she was doing that."
"It was just once." She snapped, closing her eyes and exhaling, flicking the cigarette's ash. "You don't get it. Your dad didn't leave you alone with an alcoholic mother who can't cook dinner." She twirled the tobacco stick in her hand as she spoke, offering it to me. I inhaled, adjusting my jacket, watching the slits in the sidewalk.
"Don't let them get to you, either of them. You do what you do for Steph and Hestia. Your parents?" I paused. "Fuck em. It's all mental, baby." I nudged her. "And if she lays a hand on you again, I'm curb stomping that drunken whore." I smiled innocently, tossing the butt out onto the street as we neared Liz's front yard. "Let's go." I took her hand, sneaking around her parents bedroom into the backyard. We got to her window, bedroom light was on. Thankfully, she lived on the first floor. I tapped 4 times in a staggered pattern against the glass, hearing her 3 taps of safety before sliding open my entrance.
"Wazzup Liz." I stepped onto the floor.
"Hey, May." She smiled, sitting in front of her mirror doing her makeup. Lizzy was taller than both Via and I, the oldest too, she was the polar opposite in our group. She had long blonde hair, small facial features, pretty green eyes. She was smart, good grades smart, while I was street smart. She was on the student counsel, and I was on the news once for tagging off duty cop cars. Her family was wealthy, she had her own car, her own bathroom, a California king sized bed draped in pink netting, her mirror was a large white Antoinetta vanity. She was wealthy, but she wasn't a raging bitch about it. She was actually pretty sweet.
I tossed my backpack on the bed as Via closed the window. I took off my hoodie, wiggling free to reveal my outfit. A striking white lace bodysuit, dark jeans, and what I call 'my shit kicking boots.'
"Whoa, May, You look hot." Via admired, nervously unzipping her jacket to change. I caught Liz's eye through the mirror, and she faced me.
"Yeah, you do. Where'd you get that top?"
"Score." Liz grinned, tossing me a lipstick. I caught it, taking out a purse from my backpack, and made my way to her bathroom. I applied the makeup, checking myself in the mirror, adjusting my bangs. I may be small but I'm bruiting, mean looking. A little punk, if you will. My ears are double pierced, a small slit at the end of my left brow. I even managed to sneak a couple tattoos, without my parents being any the wiser. A few weeks ago, out of pure teenage rebellion, I dyed my naturally brown hair, jet black, and half of it a vibrant, blood, red. Which's faded over time into a rosy golden tint. I'd done my makeup perfectly, emphasizing my cerulean gray eyes with brown eyeshadow and some black eyeliner. My freckles, still showing through the foundation and highlighter. I pulled out my pocket sized container of coke, giving myself a bump off one of my acrylic nails, and grabbed my purse.
"You ready, May?" V asked from Liz's bed, following me with her eyes. Silver moon earrings peaked out from behind her hair, her septum down, and her eyelashes on. Her curves were truly a blessing in a red velvet dress. I stood in front of her, offering a bump and she snorted it.
"Ready." I said taking another toot before offering one to Liz. She stood up, accepted and tossed her head back. I opened her window, throwing my boot onto the day dresser like Captian Morgan. "Let's do this."
