do you guys think i should make a tumblr post about the gnosia bootleg game that exists
ok i got a few notes on this:
I present thee Nephilim, on Steam: I highly recommend NOT playing the game for yourself, as the game is poorly translated and frankly... doesn't really play well at all. Here's some screenshots:
It's about a cast of 12 characters (+ you, the player) that's in a place of worship for La Place, a machine god, and they need to pray for 7 days in order to reach The Garden, a utopia in this cyberpunk dystopian city. However, members of Nephilim, a terrorist group seeking to destroy the religion, have infiltrated this group and plan on murdering everyone via cracking their heads open and scooping their brains out. (Yes, this story is Pretty Bonkers, and the translation doesn't really help either...)
The gameplay is pretty close to Gnosia's, except with an added role called Apostate, basically an AC Follower except they actually have access to the Engineer tech (thus can identify other characters' roles), but tbh it kinda makes the game's equivalent of an AC Follower (the Junkie) really useless since the Apostate is superior imo. Even then, the game's equivalent to Guardian Angel (Guard) can also reveal their roles and the Apostate know who the Nephilim are by default, which also makes the role a bit broken.
The Character AI is far dumber and there isn't a proper Definite Human/Enemy system. You can get away with doubting a logically Definite Human character by harassing them enough (notably the character Chick is even more comically hated than Raqio to the point where I only had him survive longer than Day 2 ONCE in my entire 12 hour playthrough of this game. He barely qualifies as a character.)
The game's pacing is also significantly worse than Gnosia's, surprisingly. It has three routes (Trish's, Elev's, and Lilliana's. P.S. Lilliana is technically a "spoiler" character but since I'm saying not to play this game she will be here anyways.), but it seems like the creators struggled understanding the appeal of Gnosia's events, so a lot of story beats are scripted in strange ways. You have something similar to the Silver Key setup, but a lot of story bits for the routes skip the loop setup and create a loop automatically. (Which, funny thing about this too: there's a scripted loop where the characters randomly hate the player? lol? There's an auto loop that happened in all three routes where the entire cast just doubted me and then voted me off for no reason. no clue what that was about.) It also ultimately doesn't matter if you win or lose a loop, as most events happen Day/Night 1 (I think there's only like, one or two events I remember being multi-day events?) and the endings kind of happen after a certain number of loops?
This is really all I can write about the game though because I don't want to criticize its story yet because of the poor translation.
Saddest news of my life. they randomly dropped an update today that changed all of the character art/CGs to AI art. Admittedly, I wasn't fan of the style, but oh my god these are significantly worse.
not only that, but they changed one of the few black characters into a fucking white guy!?!?!?!
(original left, new right)
maybe I should've expected this from a gnosia clone, but man I still wanted to have like. some hope for it? incredibly disappointed. I did leave a Steam review that probably wasn't super good, but I would appreciate it if some people marked it as helpful, maybe they'll pay attention? Who's to say.
