I’m back on my running man (korean tv) bullshit and I can’t stop thinking about Huntrix absolutely destroying the competition and shocking everyone.

Picture this

Running Man shows up on their post-release promo schedule and it’s a great opportunity to finally do it (Rumi was always refusing it due to the name tag ripping and the chance of accidentally revealing her patterns was WAY too high to consider before, plus the new Honmoon is holding strong and there hasn’t been a demon threat in weeks)

So they show up like most first timers do, woefully unaware of how actually competitive the cast gets during these games. But just as unprepared is the running man side of things, because they made Huntrix team leaders not knowing how competitive THEY are with each other.

Now, I imagine there’s varying degrees of knowing Running Man within Huntrix

Rumi - knows the most being in and amongst the Korean entertainment industry basically her whole life and also grew up watching it

Mira - knows some, but only got into it later because her parents would consider it one of the lower forms of entertainment

Zoey - knows absolutely nothing other than what she was given to prepare before the filming (she starts watching after appearing and gets really into it)

So when it comes time to choose teams there only six member to choose from because of scheduling conflicts. (I’m not fully caught up so I don’t know some of the newer cast that well) Yoo Jaesuk, Jee Seokjin, HaHa, Kim Jongkook, Song Jihyo, and Yang Sechan. They played some quick game to choose order and Zoey wins.

Based on what she knows the filming tends to get pretty physical and, since she’s got speed covered, she needs muscle so KJK(SPARTA!) is her first choice.

Rumi goes next and HAS to pick the nations mc so Jaesuk joins her team.

Mira chooses Jihyo because, if there’s a random chance game, it never hurts to have (weirdly) good luck. (I don’t know how Jihyo does it. It’s actually insane.)

Back around to Zoey and she likes HaHas vibe,(he probably did something weird and “cute”) so he’s her second pick.

Rumi throws everyone off by grabbing Seokjin (he’s been there since the beginning, and she feels a sense of loyalty to him over Sechan)

Mira graciously accepts Sechan as her final pick (1 - she would hate to make someone feel unwanted and 2 - she wanted him on her team anyway cuz there’s a little hint of Bobby in him)

So teams are

Yellow Team - Zoey, Jongkook, HaHa

Blue Team - Rumi, Jaesuk, Seokjin

Red Team - Mira, Jihyo, Sechan

And there’s some game about 4-word idioms that trips Zoey up, but then they do some quiz about animals that she absolutely rocks, like every question, no one else gets a chance to answer (she may be obsessed with sea creatures, but she loves every member of the animal kingdom) This ends with Zoey’s team leaving the earliest, Rumi’s 5 minutes later and Mira’s 5 minutes after that.

They go to the next mission spot and it’s a food challenge where they have to remember what order the food was put down and assemble a ssam in that order before eating it. Any deviation, try again. Mira absolutely crushes because she’s insanely perceptive. Zoey was not paying attention at all, but luckily KJK is always suspicious of restaurant challenges and they get it pretty quick too. Rumi, Jaesuk, and Seokjin and up eating way more than they should although Rumi’s not bothered (girl needs an insane amount of calories a day)

The next mission is a singing challenge at a karaoke place, but they draw papers and have to get the score that’s on them, so it’s not just a singing the best. If they don’t get that exact score, try again. Rumi’s team completes it the quickest, partially because the paper they drew had a 94, so Rumi just carried them. Zoey’s team eventually pulls a 63 and they just goof off for the song. Mira’s team kept pulling 77-83 but the wide skill range of the team kept swinging too off the mark until a very serious attempt after the other two teams left.

Then they get to the final spot. An amusement park or similarly outdoor location. And now it’s the name tag ripping race. They have 1 hour to eliminate the other teams by ripping the name tags off their backs. Normally over the course of the first forty minutes, the guests and cast manage to get down to two or three remaining players. Not this time. All the teams split up and somehow within 15 minutes everyone except Huntrix is eliminated. The girls actually have pretty good control and, while they manage to not use the honmoon to strengthen their bodies for, essentially, a game of tag with regular humans, they are specifically trained for combat, even if it isn’t life-or-death.

Thats really all I have. I don’t know who would win between them, although I am biased towards Zoey. I’ll think about it some more.

So the trans!Mira portion of the All Of Them Are Trans AU I've been yapping about in the DMs;

(I'd start with Rumi but Rumi had the easiest transition imaginable)

But Mira is 9 when she realizes that it doesn't feel right when her parents call her their "son" and dress her in little suits and she has to call her brother "hyeong" instead of "oppa"

So she starts calling her brother "oppa" because it's such a little thing and it fits her mouth better and it makes her insides settle right and mother and father drag her away from looking at dresses or makeup but these are just words so --

"You -- are -- a -- boy," her father growls. Each word followed by the fall of the cane.

It gets worse.

Her parents force her to sign up for team sports in an effort to make her spend time around other boys. Hoping that she'll become normal by osmosis.

All it does it paint a bigger target on her.

By the time she's fifteen (a recent growth spurt made her shoot past most of the girls at school, hair pokes out along her jaw, her... organs are growing and she doesn't know how to make it stop) she's desperate.

Her parents are getting more violent with every reminder that their youngest still isn't turning into the kind of son they can be proud of. If they find her hidden stash of make up and girl clothes -- she doesn't want to think what they'll do.

In secret, she auditions for Sunlight Entertainment, trying to get a spot in their trainee program. (A long shot -- a really, really, really long shot, she knows. But she's desperate.)

Somehow, despite her ill fitting clothes and shaky make up and a voice starting to crack, she doesn't get laughed out of the audition.

Somehow, Kang Celine is showing up at her parents' house and telling her father that Sunlight Entertainment is offering his daughter a position as a trainee for next year's class.

"I don't have a daughter, Kang-nim," her father says, in his voice that promised violence as soon as company leaves and it was just the family again. "I have two boys. One of which is simply very confused."

Celine's eyes flicker to Mira, standing in the door way, still in her school uniform.

Her father calls her by the wrong name when he orders her to, "stop spying and explain yourself."

"It was a joke," comes out in a rush. She can't meet Celine's eyes. God knows what she must be thinking. "The -- the baseball team. We thought... we thought it would be funny. I'm sorry for wasting your time, Kang-nim."

She bows deeply.

"I see," Celine says. "Well, I apologize for the misunderstanding. Your son is very talented and I'm sure he'll have a future in the industry if he continues to audition."

She hands Mira a business card as she leaves. On the back is the address to a hotel.

"Please, keep in touch," Celine says, before leaving.

Silence.

And then, worse than if her father had simply grabbed the cane and started beating her in the study, her father says, "go to your room and wait for your mother."

Her mother tears through her room and finds everything -- the clothes, the makeup, the wig.

She burns everything and when she's done, she sits Mira down at the kitchen table and shaves Mira's head.

Her father beats her for embarrassing the family in front of Kang Celine and then beats her harder for crying.

That night, curled up in bed, hurting too bad to fall asleep, she overhears her parents talking about sending her away. That they've been too lenient, that the school doesn't impose the discipline she clearly needs.

That they should send her away.

Mira staggers out of bed and runs away that night.

[Part 2]

She waits for the house to get quiet and then waits some more before limping out of her room, ears straining for any signs of waking from her parents or her brother.

Tugging on a pair of old sneakers, she's out the door and down the street before she has a chance to second guess herself.

She leaves with the clothes on her back -- an oversized sleep shirt and blue pajama pants that could almost pass for sweatpants -- and a hastily packed duffle filled with clothes that she hated slung over her shoulders.

It's almost an hour before she realizes she doesn't know where she is, hasn't paid attention to where she's been walking, and has no idea how to get to a hotel in the middle of downtown.

God what has she been thinking?

Shivering from the rain and chilly night winds, she huddles under an awning of a closed store as she tries wrack her brain for ideas.

No phone. No money. Clothes soaked through with rain. Busted knuckles from where she'd tried to protect her neck and face.

She couldn't have looked more like a runaway if she tried.

But she couldn't go back.

Going back meant being sent away to some hell even worse than her parents' house.

A brief stop at a 24 hour convenience store and three hours later, she's standing outside the most exclusive hotel in Busan.

What the front desk must think of her, she can only guess. But she sees the looks the employees give each other as her rain-soaked sneakers squeak across the marble floor.

She knows what they're seeing is a homeless, teenage boy sliding a soggy business card towards them and claiming that Kang Celine is expecting him.

To her surprise, they simply check their computers and unlock the elevator for her.

There's mirrors in the elevator. She doesn't look at them.

There's mirrors where the doors open. She doesn't look at those either.

Standing in front of the door to the penthouse suite, Mira knocks on the door before her nerve -- or legs -- can fail her.

Kang-nim is probably asleep, she thinks before the door opens.

Kang-nim is still wearing a white, button-down shirt and black slacks. She looks as if she were still in a business meeting.

"Mira," she says.

She opens the door wider.

"Please, come in."

Bowing, Mira shuffles past the treshold. Behind her, the door closes with a click and a quiet whirl of an electronic lock.

"I'm sorry for bothering you," Mira says, quietly. It's late. She doesn't need a clock to know that. "I didn't know where else to go."

Celine hums before saying, "Well, we're glad you're here."

We?

Lifting her eyes, Mira sees a girl her age perched on the couch in the suite's living room. The same girl that was with Celine during her audition -- who had stared and stared before whispering something to Celine -- and who was staring at her now.

"Rumi-ya, could you show Mira to the bathroom?" Celine asks. Then to Mira, "I'm sure you want a shower and to change into some dry clothes after the day you've had, hm?"

Mira nods and follows the girl -- Rumi -- further into the suite.

[Part 3]

Rumi asks Mira if she has an extra set of pajamas and when she shakes her head, Rumi murmurs that she's going to check if Celine has any extra and leaves Mira alone in a bathroom larger than most bedrooms.

Above the two-basin sink, is a crystal mirror that stretches to the ceiling. There was not a single blemish on the mirror and for the first time that day, Mira cannot avoid seeing herself as she is.

Looking back at her is an exhausted, dead-eyed boy with a sloppy, mange-like buzzcut and a red and purple bruise darkening his cheek. Dark, wiry hairs protrude from his chin in individual strands too few to be called anything approaching a beard.

She raises her hand and he raises his too.

Oh.

Oh god.

No more pretending; that was what she looks like now.

A wheezing, dismayed laugh exits her lungs and turn into choking sobs that she tries to muffle with the palm of her hand.

Oh god, look at her.

Look at her.

Who was she fooling?

She could never be an idol. She'd be lucky to get the chance to be a woman. The only reason Kang Celine had bothered with her was out of pity.

Sponsoring some confused boy who needed a roof over his head.

She'd never believe Mira was a girl. Not when she looked like this. The best Mira could hope for now was a place in the dorms with other male trainees. Pretending to be a man, debuting as a man, performing as a man for -- however long it would take for her to pay back her training cost.

And she would accept.

What other choice did she have?

No other label would have even let her audition let alone --

There's a knock on the door.

"You're not naked are you?" Rumi asks.

"Uh, no?" Mira replies.

Before she can say anything else like why are you asking or I want to be alone please, the door opens just far enough for an arm to thrust in and toss a set of gold, silk pajamas monogrammed with the hotel logo.

The door closes again.

"What--"

From behind the door, Rumi huffs in annoyance.

"Celine didn't have anything you could wear to bed," she says. "So I asked room service if they had anything and that's what they sent up."

A pause.

"Um... sorry if you hate them. I thought they'd look... not like that."

Mira looks at the pajamas again. They looked distinctly like something that her creepy uncle would wear and no one else would touch let alone put on their body.

"It's... better than nothing, I guess," Mira says, slipping into the clothes.

A quiet snort of laughter comes from the door.

Rumi falls silent for a moment before clearing her throat and saying, "So, Celine is busy talking to the lawyers and she's not going to appreciate us hanging around out in the living room. Do you want to watch a movie and paint our nails in my room?"

A lump wedges itself in Mira's throat. Something hot and sharp. And electric.

Her hands grip the edge of the sink.

She looks at her bruised knuckles, at the split skin knitting itself together, at the flecks of dried blood in the creases of her skin.

She looks at her nails. At the peeling cuticles and the rounded edges cut almost to the skin.

Yes.

Yes.

God, she wants to say yes.

She wants to fling the door open and ask what colors Rumi has and if she has pink -- a hot pink. The kind of pink that was almost offensively bright and undeniably artificial.

She wants to coat her nails in it until nothing natural remained.

She wants to see her nails sparkling under a shitty ring light and feel that this one thing was untained by her parents. That this was hers.

Wholly and completely.

But the words that Mira's lips form are, "I've never -- I don't know how to paint nails."

"Really?" Rumi sounds surprised. "I could show you, if you wanted. I ah... I really liked your make-up during your audition. If you're that steady with eyeliner, you shouldn't have a problem with learning how to do nails."

"I --."

Someone had liked her make-up? Kang Rumi had liked her make-up.

"... do you have pink?"

Zoey having dealt with bullying in the USA worrying just a little about starting school with her new fellow hunters in Korea.

Zoey, pacing and babbling and worrying aloud about being 'the weird kid' again and how people treat you when you're the weird one out.

Mira snorting at that and commenting Zoey cannot be the weird kid at their school. That designation belongs to Rumi. Rumi solidly holds that title, and she cannot be dethroned.

Rumi doesn't bother trying to deny it or debate it, but does make a sarcastic comment about "My mom says I'm cool."

"See? See? You can't top that. Rumi's the weird kid and they still love her and invite her to every birthday party and every hang out which means they'll love you and make Rumi haul you along."

Abuelita is a gamer

Absolutely. I think most of her family is actually. Although ironically Abuelita is probably the mosr interested in the more mainstream games because that's what her grandkids are playing and she wants to play with them.

Zoey teaches her how to stream and she spends half the time cursing in spanish and the other half talking about her family. She keeps talking about her granddaughter the traveling musician in Korea. Then mentions her band is called Huntr/x. The Hunters are losing their mind and absolutely BLOW UP her twitch and it is the funniest shit on the planet.

Abuelita: (looking at Chat losing their minds) Yes my granddaughter is in Huntr/x. She's the maknae? I think that's the term. She's so sweet. She gets her talent from me.

Pawpa: (in the background) SHE GOT IT FROM ME!!

Abuelita: Ignore him, mijos. He's losing his mind in his old age

Pawpa: IMMA TELL ZEEZEE YOU'RE BULLYING ME ON YOUR CREEK

Headcanon - Early in Huntrix’s career, directly after their first idol awards win, Celine notices the three acting really weird. Rumi looking at hair dye, Mira attempting to change her voice, Zoey refusing to eat, etc. It didn’t take Celine long to do three things. One, realize the girls were actually reading their hate comments. Two, delete all of them and block the users. Three, comfort the girls.

Celine spotting the warning signs and shutting that shit down immediately. She remembers the tabloids, the inappropriate questions from interviewers, the snide comments from managers. She remembers her girls fussing over stupid frivolous shit like appearance and temperament. She remembers the gnawing in her stomach from being told she needed to lose ten pounds before the next concert run. She remembers Miyeong close to a nervous breakdown after one asshole of an interviewer implied she only got where she was by sleeping with a producer. She remembers Third going almost 48 hours with no sleep because she couldn’t get past a critique about her lyrical abilities.

Celine stepping up as a mentor where her own mentors didn’t. Celine not afraid to protect her girls, fuck the possible consequences. She’ll direct any criticism her way. She’ll shield her girls from all the bullshit from an industry that loves to exploit them.

It may be their job to protect the world but it’s still her job to protect them.

For Mira's birthday Zoey and Rumi plan a full day of activities for them to do together. They learned early on in knowing Mira that she prefers experiences over material things, especially when those experiences include her two favorite people in the whole world.

They also learned that Mira's proffered experiences were more casual and lowkey than over extravagant vacations. Something that was simple, thoughtful, and most importantly, with them. But Rumi and Zoey needed it to at least be a step above their usual movie night caliber even though they know that would be more than enough for Mira.

So they find the balance. They opt for a staycation in the penthouse, but they jazz it up. No overhead lights allowed, the apartment is only lit with fairy lights and other mood lamps. All food is catered, delivered from all of Mira's favorite places in the city. They made a Playlist of songs that Mira loves, songs that make them think of Mira, etc. that's over 10 hours long so it's constantly playing in the background, volume control very much depending on if the schedule says "dance party" or "mid afternoon nap"

And they just spend the day inside. They watch a few movies at random times, play a board game that gets way too competitive, have a karaoke dance party, do their own mini fashion show/photo shoot. Many many silly things they love to do together, just all within the span of 24 hours.

Mira loves it! She's on cloud nine the whole day because it's exactly what she wanted. Time with her loves. Even when at the end of the night, right before they pile into the same bed to cap off the perfect day in a mess of limbs, and they do give her physical gifts, they're still perfect. Simple, thoughtful, and them. Photo frame magnets so Mira can display all the fun new pictures they took together, and handwritten love letters she can cry about later.

Huntrix being sent back in time, sunlight sisters immediately square up seeing Rumi with patterns and Huntrix are begging them to listen and that they’re from the future. It doesn’t work but they’re stopped by miyeong who tells the other two “can’t you see who she is?? This is definitely Celine’s daughter” and Rumi’s too shocked to even correct her

Celine’s like so offended but she can’t deny that the girl speaks like her and has her exact mannerism and she does know a lot about her

Mira and Zoey growing more concerned as they notice Rumi being attached to her phone and going back to reaching for oversized sweaters and high neck shirts; they decide to take a look over her shoulder next time she’s glued to her phone only to find her scrolling through pages of hate comments on twitter.

It takes less than a week before Mira’s debuting a blackwork sleeve that curls up her arm and across her shoulder like smoke, Zoey’s close behind sporting a watercolour lotus flower that wraps around her wrist and lower forearm.

Rumi gawks when she sees them, eyes darting between her band mates and the open comment section on her phone. “Um, you guys look great, but was now really a great time… I’m already causing enough problems for us all.”

“That’s the point, Rumi.” Zoey explains, wrapping her in a hug. “It’s not your fault, and if people wanna come for you then they’ll have to come for all three of us!”

“Yeah!” Mira agrees, placing a comforting hand on Rumi’s shoulder. “I’d love to see someone try and say we don’t approve of your patterns now.”

AU - The moment a hunter makes their connection with the honmoon, they gain the ability to switch bodies with the other hunters. This is done to help them find one another and stops once they all unite. However, the swapping happens randomly. For Mira, Zoey and Rumi, the swaps happen when Zoey is still in high school, Mira is still living with her family and Rumi is still alone and hiding her patterns.

(Rumi is fast asleep cause it’s 3 am and then she’s suddenly in math class in an American high school with a teacher asking her about her algebra homework cause it’s 10 am in California.)
