Oui, je sais. [Sometimes her coddling is a bit of a relief.] But there isn’t much to be done. 

I’ll try to get some rest sooner or later, if time allows for it.

Alright, but you have to tell me if there is anything I can do to help. I am on the bridge almost every day, after all—if you want me to watch for anything, I will.

Ah, you need the rest. [She chuckled, quietly taking his hands in hers and struggling with her thin fingers to massage out any kinks.] I will try not to bother you too much.

You may call it arbitrary, but I feel as if something terrible is happening aboard as we speak.

Mon chou, I dislike very much seeing you so stressed. Tu t'énerves; you are so overwhelmed nowadays.

[God fucking dammit. Nhiriri held on to the console again, but applying less pressure, otherwise she could snap it into two.] I don’t know, [she hissed, rubbing at her temple.

He’d better be okay. Fuck —now she was worrying.] Haven’t comm’ed him yet.

[calypso-celeste]

[Once Céleste picked up on the other woman's sudden anxiety, a pang of regret rippled through her.] Oh, no, I did not mean to cause you any stress. I was just curieuse.

[She let out a curt sigh.] I am sure he is fine.

[Nah, she wasn’t falling for that. Her ears twitched slightly, the echoes of distressed sounds on the bridge and a good part of the surrounding area of the bridge being way too loud for her.] 

Hm. And your books okay? [It was teasing alright, but there was no denying she was curious —first thing she does is grab her books? Humans were still fascinating to her.]

Ah, oui, my books are quite alright.

[She felt her stomach flip as the ship turned a sharp corner yet again and caused everything on the consoles around her to either shift to the side or flash wildly. Over the frantic beeping and metal smashing against one another, she managed to shout out:] By the way—[ah, merde, c'était quoi, ça?]—how faring is your husband?

[Nhiriri’s claws dug into the nearest console, and she only swayed slightly before she was hissing and baring her teeth. When her hand pulled back, there were marks over the metal.] 

Don’t like this one bit. 

Celéste, you okay?

[calypso-celeste]

[Céleste set her books back on her desk, then tucked her hair behind her ears.]

Oui, mademoiselle. I am alright. [Her eyes widened at the sight of the scratched-up console, but she said nothing of it—instead, she flashed Nhiriri a halfhearted smirk in a feeble attempt to lighten the mood.]

[The pads of Céleste's fingers dug into her temples as she felt a slight shift in gravity push her back into her seat. Instinctively, she reached for her books and pulled them close to her chest, jaw tightening as the ship swerved yet again.]

J'y crois pas. How is everyone doing?

Théo, Théo, he was trying to think of who that was, but did not have a clue. To think he was familiar with a good majority of the bridge crew yet knew nothing of this Théo.

"You are working yourself rather hard, Céleste." This was an argument he knew he was going to lose, but it was worth a shot to at least bring it up with her. "Do you think it is such a good idea to be working so soon? I am sure no one vill mind if you take another day off or so." So he quickly added a way out of said argument. "But like I said,more than villing to assist you, jus’ say the vord."

Asim wrinkled his nose, wishing he had stated that in a different way. There weren’t so much rumors as there was a rumor. Though the woman seemed far more excited about being talked about than he would have thought.”Just the fact that you and a certain medical staff member have been spending a great deal of time together. It is not that exciting, and I fear I may have disappointed you!”

As much as Céleste would have preferred another day off, she didn't want to be away from the bridge for very long, what with the admiral sneaking around the ship and all. The last thing she wanted was to get chewed out just because she took one too many days off.

"Pas de problème, Asim," she replied. "Besides, I will not need many help. The admiral is here, so I only need to look busy, you know?"

At Asim's mention of the "certain medical staff member" she was almost sure was Felix, her face fell. "Oh, no, you have not disappointed me." She let out a curt chuckle, then added, "I should not be as surprised as I am. Bon, le docteur et moi, we are very close. Some of the crew members, je sais, do not—well, they gossip about us, unfortunately."

She held her chin up high. "I will not let it disturb me."

[calypso-celeste]

Pas de problème, mon chou. I get excited about new words, too.

[Her little giggle faded into silence as she listened to him talk. She reached to his sides to quietly take his hands in hers.] You do not have to tell me everything, Felix, if you do not feel comfortable. After all, they are just ideas. [Very dangerous ideas.] Right?

[calypso-felix]

Right. [He could only hope so. He squeezed her hands and decided to put to rest, for now. Later, if it was still eating at him, he’d go back and do some homework, then approach the Captain.]

It’s silly to speculate like this. I’d rather not get worked up over nothing. Tell me about your day, Mäuschen.

[calypso-celeste]

Bon, the admiral is a bit frightening. It is only natural that you would speculate. [She smiled, swinging her arms back and forth. Although she was happy to listen to any of his complaints, she disliked seeing Felix like this—tense, distraught, unfocused. God knew they had better things to do with their time besides worry, anyway.]

It was good! The ship is—c'est quoi, ça?—"smooth sailing."

[She slipped her right hand out of Felix's and stuck it into the sack hanging from her shoulder. Practically beaming with excitement, she pulled out a banged-up CD labeled "CHILL TUNES 4 U & UR LVR."] Regardez: Damara gave this "mixtape" to me this morning!

The smile she cast him caused him to grin in return. Happy to see him, now that was a nice change. Céleste’s happy attitude seemed to pierce through any of his negative thoughts. Which was one of the reasons he enjoyed her company. One of the many.

"Maiṁ māphī cāhatā hūm̐, Céleste! I had not heard about any illness." He glanced over her form, and doubted her claim of being healthy. Her skin was still slightly paler than usual, and yes, she did still look very tired. How a person managed to keep up such a happy facade when she most likely still felt terrible was beyond him. Inspirational maybe, but unfathomable. "Do you have to work today? I do not have a shift till later, I could assist you in anything you needed?"

"Oh I am doing well, very well. We do need to catch up though. I have heard many stories about your ventures, though I believe none of them I hope you know."

Céleste shrugged, grinning. (The Hindi was, of course, totally lost on her—although she could guess the meaning from Asim's concerned tone of voice.) "Tu vois, I woke up this morning and I thought I should go to the bridge to make sure everything is alright. Théo—mon pauvre—has been working a lot for me recently, and he needs a break. I will be glad if you come and help me get my things in order."

"Tu vas bien, tu vas bien...wait. There are 'stories' about me?" Céleste's eyebrows shot up. People usually didn't tell stories about her. Her voice dropped to an excited whisper: "Mon Dieu, Asim, you must tell me about these stories! I never let to—sorry, get to hear rumors about myself."

In their current moment of peace and transition after the last hiccup in their adventure, Asim had found himself a minute of down time in order to call his mother and sister, both of which were rather upset at him for taking so long to get in to contact. But after that they were just as normal as ever. His mother droned on about the neighbors and distant relatives, and Chandi was informing him about some of her favorite new pop culture trends as well as potential husbands. Eventually he managed to get a few words in about what had happened on the ship, but he was more than happy to just listen and speak his native tongue again while being surrounded by familiar faces and memories. 

But he had cut it short before his father could speak to him, thankfully, and the man now found himself roaming the halls for a brief walk before he would most likely head to the gym. Though an all too familiar face stopped him. 

"Céleste!"

It had been rather inconsiderate of him not to have gone looking for the woman. His friend. Things had been rather busy, and honestly he had just thought she was caught up on the bridge trying to help get the damn space amoeba off the ship. Though looking at her now, he wasn’t so sure if that had been the case. The poor thing seemed very tired.

“Āpa kaisē haiṁ?” Asim frowned and shook his head, before taking a few of the charts off the top of the pile she was carrying. “Ah apologies. How are you, my dear? You must have been very busy, I have not seen you in awhile.” He had heard rumors about her and another staff member, but had yet to actually speak to her in person ever since their coffee date. “Please, allow me to carry the rest of your things for you?”

"Ah, Asim! How good to see you!" Céleste was more than thankful to see him—she considered him one of the few people she knew who could match her in pure enthusiasm—walking down the hall. Acknowledging him with a shaky nod, she let him take a couple of the charts while she shoved the rest into the crook of one arm.

"I have been sick, I have been busy...I have been many things," she sighed, idly shifting her weight from one foot to the other. "Fortunately, I am healthy and can stand on my own two feet now."

She grinned, brushing strands of tangled strawberry-blonde hair out of her face. "Ça fait longtemps, Asim. How are you today? How have you been? I have so many questions."

It would be normal to worry, I believe. So long as everyone is on their best behavior, it will be fine. 

From what I gather, he is not as strict as he is disreputable. [Most people were either not aware of that, or weren’t willing to share. Maybe it was not good information to divulge, either, but he trusted her.] 

Have you seen him yet? I would not recommend speaking to him unless spoken to, Céleste.
