Cross fading is definitely something I would not recommend unless you’re being supervised. Like, I’m not positive if someone else brought me home last night or if I somehow managed to get myself all the way back there. That should be a good enough reason for any of y’all to make better decisions than I did last night.

Being a first time dog mom is confusing sometimes. Mi princesa has been hiding out ever since the storm, but when I got home a couple of days ago, she clung to me and hasn’t left my side since. When I leave, she cries and when I get home, she jumps right back into my lap again. I’m not complaining, it’s actually nice. I’m just wondering why she’s so clingy. Is she trying to comfort me? Can she sense that I’m stressed? These are things I’d like to know.

Dogs are so smart that they can tell when something’s wrong --- if you’re stressed or feelin’ a little down, or even just mildly sad, they’ll know. Maybe it’s also your pupper trying to thank you for being around and whatnot. It could be a million different things, but it’ll simply add up to her loving you and caring for you.

Hearing Cameron say those three incredibly special words warmed Brielle’s heart. In a time like this, hearing such a thing from the man that she cared so much for.. well, it felt practically perfect. She grabbed him by the sides of his face, his beard scratching at her palm as she pulled him closer. “I love you too,” she murmured and kissed him softly, letting it linger for a moment. “And because I love you, I can tell you that…” She sucked in a breath, giving him a guilty smile. “You really should shave your beard.”

“What?” Cameron exclaimed when she told him to shave his beard, feeling slightly offended since he’d taken an entire month to grow it out, “but it’s no shave November. And I look good in a beard, and ---” He pouted, exaggerating the gesture as his lower lip protruded more so than usual. Rubbing his right hand along his beard, he sighed but shook his head, giving in as he usually did. “Fine” he relented quickly, though he still made a show of it just to make her smile, “fine, Brielle Rose. Because I love you, I will shave my beard. December first, it’s gone. Clean shaven Cam will be back and you will finally make out with me like before. Don’t think I haven’t noticed you trying not to make a face, missy.”

As soon as Cameron took Brielle into her arms, she felt as if she was melting into a puddle. It felt amazing to be held the way that he does – arms strong and tight – and it’s exactly what she needed at this very moment. As much as she was struggling with taking time for herself, everything that he was saying sounded wonderful. And Brielle knew that she needed to be selfish in this one moment. For herself. If she wanted to be able to take care of others, she needed to be her very best self. And a few days to recuperate was the best thing that they could do.

“A very long wine night,” Brielle mumbled against his neck, smiling lightly. Before the two of them had starting dating, they had wine nights. It was the kind of nights where they would drink far too much wine and try their best not to kiss one another – but sometimes, the tension was far too strong and Brielle couldn’t bring herself to stay away from him. “I just want to be here with you. I just… want this.” She paused. “And to drink wine. Like right now.”

“I think we have to get back to doing our wine nights, don’t we?” Cameron joked, pressing his lips to her blonde hair and smiling to himself. That’s all she needed. That’s why she was acting off --- because she needed time for herself, to be herself, to worry about herself, and to finally put herself first, over everybody else in her life. If he was being honest, Cameron couldn’t remember a time when Brielle had chosen to do just that. Though he was a better man because of her, he wasn’t as selfless as she was; he was still selfish, and maybe that was why it didn’t affect him as much. But the love she had for everyone was why he loved her, and why he was falling for her. Her kindness warmed his heart. Her kindness made him want to spend a hell of a long time with her, just being the man she deserves. 

“I love you” Cameron blurted out without really thinking about it, it was just how he felt. He loved her. He loved everything about her. “I’ll go get us some wine. We forget about this conversation and we start watching Daredevil again. Maybe the fifth time will do the trick.”

Even as Cameron tried to reassure her that everything was okay, it didn’t necessarily help. While Brielle was more than aware that all of her loved ones were out of harms way, she still felt exhausted in every sense of the word. The previous week had been incredibly rough on her, and she just wanted a moment to herself where she didn’t have to be the Brielle that was always happy – just a moment. It was clear that Cameron noticed this, and was worried. However, Brielle shook her head at his words. “I guess.. I guess you don’t understand.” Her words were more of a question than it was a statement, because she didn’t want to seem like she was upset with him.

“I just want this quiet time with you. I want to be able to just… be. I don’t want to be Brielle Rose who’s always smiling and taking care of others. I’m tired, Cameron..” She trailed off, running her hand through her hair with a shaky sigh. It was obvious that she was fighting off tears. It was an internal battle. While she wanted to be left to her own devices and just relax, she knew that her family (especially Charlotte) needed her help at the moment. “I want to be able to breathe, and not feel like.. I’m suffocating!” She was talking with her hands, clearly getting too worked up – perhaps it was best to talk about it. “But.. I know that my family and friends need me. Bailey says that’s she’s okay, but I know that taking care of Alex is taking a toll on her. Charlotte had panic attacks and is clearly not doing well. I just…” She looked down at her lap. “I don’t know.”

It took Cameron a moment to take in everything Brielle had said, and as soon as he did, he felt like an ass. What she wanted was to be Brielle --- not Brielle, the one who took care of everyone, worried for them, and put them before herself. This was her attempting to put herself and her well-being above everything, and Cameron had questioned it because she wasn’t being ‘herself’. Yet perhaps she was trying to be, and he wasn’t allowing her to. 

Taking her into his arms, he kissed the top of her head a few times and held her close, not really knowing what to say. He hadn’t really thought about how having such a huge heart affected her mentally, but he should’ve. “I know you’re still gonna worry, but don’t. Let’s take at least two... maybe three days to ourselves. Just us. We don’t talk about the storm, or anything else. We just watch Netflix, play video games and drink wine.” He paused, kissing her forehead softly. “We take that and then worry about everyone else later. We recuperate mentally and physically. And then... and then we worry. For now, we learn how to breathe. They’ll understand that you need time to yourself. They’ll get it. They won’t hold it against you.”

When Cameron addressed exactly how off Brielle had been, she couldn’t help but let out a short sigh. She felt more than off-kilter, and it all had been because of the storm. There was a plethora of things that were on her mind, and all of them had her just feeling a bit lost. While she was aware that the way she had been acting was different, she didn’t think it was something for someone to worry about. After all, everyone was okay and that’s all that matters. “I’m..” Brielle started and gave him a small shrug. “I don’t know. I’m fine, Cam. I’m just… recuperating from the storm. I think everyone is.” 

After chewing on her bottom lip for a moment, she spoke up once more. “I don’t know how to explain it to you, but I..” Her voice shook just a little bit and her eyes watered. “I just feel lost. I know that everyone’s okay, but… I thought, just maybe, that you weren’t. Even just a second of worrying that something had happened to you, to my sisters, my mom… anyone. It was too much.”

‘I’m just… recuperating from the storm.’ That much he knew. That much was obvious. But her next words were indicative of how big her heart was --- the fact that she’d literally worried herself sick demonstrated that she was the type of person to put other’s well-being before her own. She wasn’t herself because she’d spent a week worrying about her family, and worrying about him. Of course, he’d spent the week doing the same, but he didn’t wear his heart on his sleeve like Brielle did. That type of situation would get to her a whole of a hell more than it got to him. 

“We’re okay, though...” Cameron tried to reassure her, looking into her bright, blue eyes and trying to get her to see in his that everything would be fine, and that everything would be back to normal soon enough. She didn’t have to worry. “Your mom, your sisters... me. We’re all okay. You don’t have to... you don’t have to worry anymore, baby. You don’t have to feel as much as you do. You gotta think of yourself sometimes, y’know.” He paused, grabbing her hand in his. “We’re all okay, honey. Now it’s your turn to be okay.”
