I’m finally sensing an improvement in home improvement, if you know what I mean, (I am talking to you, Hamilton, Ontario).
For too long the home renovation space, and contractors alike have been in a nebulous industry where men in ‘the know’ would be considered guilty until proven innocent in how they price and perform on Hamilton construction projects. Suspicions of dishonesty and shoddy work were the initial perceptions people held.
Because of the severe lack of accountability for the time period, they were right to be weary.
Being that the contractors in Hamilton were the skilled tradesmen who the public trusted to execute bathroom renovations, or kitchen updates, you had no choice but to put your trust in a stranger. Of course there were large construction and contractor firms that you could hire... If you wanted to be left for broke.

During the pre-social and pre-mainstream internet era of the 1990′s, when one would seek the help of a builder or contractor in Hamilton, you’d have to go by word of mouth, back page newspaper ads, the dreaded yellow pages, or follow a random phone number posted on a telephone poll for a local handyman.

Personally, I’m thinking about a new fence this year, as the one on the side of my house, about four feet tall, is really wobbly, and tilting to one side.
