I’ve spent the past 5? days working on this on and off. Full transparency, I did colour pick from my reference - this is my first time doing portraits in 6+ years so I’m just trying to ease back into it <3

reference used is an edited screencap from White Sands. this is literally just ray dolezal with scars and eye bags to be entirely real

ok why is settling on a fc so hard... i'm not trying to nail a 1:1 visage like i do with gavner - willem? tried some loose r.obert sean leonard basis and now i'm trying to put morris in a blender with alfred molina and see what comes out and i'm geting. closer. but not QUITE there. and i can't place it.

also glasses are so hard to draw... i gotta start painting him squinting because he is going to be SO blind 90% of the time i paint his ass

ok i cannot focus on this any longer so i’m calling this done enough! colour study from the cdf film.

i’ve come to realize that all of my art improvement over the past year has been fuelled solely by my desire to see fanart of this guy. for years i neglected to do any studies, gesture sketches, to use references, to push my comfort zone, etc etc - then I realized “oh if i want to see cool fanart of this character, then i have to be the one to make it” and now i’m here, like 200 gavs later, having dragged myself out of a long period of art stagnation thanks to it <3
