Aaron nodded in agreement then he laughed. “I’m not going to be getting into anytime soon, Ali. You can bet on that.” she shook his head. “Besides, even if I do get a girlfriend and you’re around she’ll just have to deal with it. If she doesn’t love you as much as I do, she’s not worth my time.” he shrugged. Aaron raised his eyebrows while they sat there in silence. “You good?”

“Well if you’re sure. I really don’t want to intrude on your life, Aaron.” She said. She always stayed at Aaron’s place when she visited New York but this was different. Now she’d be living there full time and she really didn’t want to bother him. Her eyes stayed connected on Aaron’s and she took a deep breath, “Yeah, I’m good.”

Aaron smiled when she mentioned the night they slept together. “I’m happy it happened to. She’s the light of my life and I have you to thank for that.” Aaron’s mouth dropped when she said she was moving out. “Why? I like having you around. It’s like a real family.” he told her. He knew that chances of him ever finding a wife would be slim. He could only ever picture himself with Aria and he hasn’t seen her since the show was over. Besides, Alison was single now too and he didn’t want her living alone.

Alison smiled softly, “It still boggles my mind that we made her. She is definitely the best thing that has ever happened to me.” She said and then turned to Aaron, “I mean, its your house. What’s going to happen if you get a girlfriend and you tell her you live with the mother of your child? I don’t think that’d settle very well.”  She said and ran her fingers through her hair. Ali sighed softly and looked at Aaron for a long while. She had tried time and time again to be with other people, but all of her relationships had always been a failed mess. He was the only person truly there for her always.

Aaron sighed. He hated the way the Alison felt, and he wished he could make it better. “Selfish?” Aaron shook his head. “No, you are the opposite of selfish. I mean, you left your tour to be with your daughter. If that’s not selflessness, then I don’t know what is.” Aaron shook his head. “I don’t think so, but I wondered for a while if she did.” he couldn’t help but smile. “I love you too, Alison.” he paused. “She’s very smart though. She’ll pick up on it and eventually I think she will just learn to accept it. She’ll be confused at first, but it’s all about learning.”

Alison didn’t enjoy feeling selfish, but sometimes she did. She should have been with Destiny during every moment. She should have been there when she said her first word -- which of course was dada. She should have been there when she took her first steps but she wasn’t. “I had too. I needed to be with her.” She whispered and squeezed his hand tightly, “I couldn’t be more grateful for that one night we had together, I mean we made a gorgeous little girl.” She smiled over at him, “But, I promise I’ll be out of your hair soon. I have some viewings of apartments later on today.”

Aaron nodded. “I get that. I would never be able to leave that behind. Hell, I could barely do it no, but I did fine on my own. I wanted you to go out and focus on your career. You shouldn’t feel guilty.” Aaron paused. “I wasn’t going to tell you this but…” he took a deep breathe, “A few weeks before you came back, I was out at a bar with friends and Xavier was babysitting  Destiny. I came home with a woman and Destiny woke up in the middle of the night and saw her leaving. The poor little girl was so confused.” he couldn’t help but chuckle a little bit. “I can’t even imagine how confused she’s going to be when she finds out most of her friends’ parents are married or used to be married. I’ll have to explain it to her one day.”

“I don’t regret going out there and living out my dream. But there were nights I cried myself to sleep because I felt like the worst mom in the world. I mean -- I gave up so much precious time with Destiny to focus on me. Parents aren’t supposed to be selfish in that way.” She said with a soft sigh and then gently grabbed Aaron’s hand giving it a squeeze, “I’m glad you did okay. I would have quit and dropped everything if I knew you really needed me here,” She said honestly. Her eyes went wide at the story, “She didn’t see anything? Just her leaving, right?” She questioned and then scratched the side of her head with her free hand, “I don’t know how we’re gonna do that. Explain to her that her mommy and daddy were never in love -- never in the way that other mommy’s and daddy’s were at least. I mean -- you know I love you.”

Aaron took a deep breathe and frowned at Alison’s words as the car started to drive away. “Alison,” he began “I’m telling you right now. Destiny would not be here if it weren’t for you. You taught me everything I needed to know about father hood. Who knows what she would have been like if I you didn’t help me raise her. You were there for all the important parts. And you’re here now, that’s all that matters.” he swallowed hard. “I honestly don’t know if I would have made the choice you made…to leave your tour. I’ve always put my career before everything. I don’t think i could have been as strong as you.” he looked over at her.

“I had to go,” She said, “Music has always been such a big part of my life and I had a dream forever. We were so young when we had Des and god I would never take that back, she is the best gift I have ever received, but I never got a chance to live out my dream before she came along. It was the hardest thing to leave for tour -- but getting up on stage and looking out to audiences that were filled with 50,000 people made being away worth it. Knowing I made all these people happy, but god, I can’t even imagine what it was like for Des. Seeing me so little and more through a screen in person,” She said. Her words just poured out of her mouth, it was things she had kept bottled up for so long which were suddenly coming out all at once, “I love her so damn much. I love you so much, Aaron. I just -- I feel terrible for leaving you on your own for most of the time.”

Aaron looked over at Alison and when he saw her cry, he felt a pain in his throat. He clear his throat to hold back his tears and reached out to hold his best friend’s hand and they turned around and headed back out to the car. “It’s okay…” he whispered to her. Aaron opened the door for Alison and slid in next to her. “I guess that could have been worse.” he said, bringing her in to a warm hug. 

Alison couldn’t explain the love she had for her best friend. He was the one person there for her through everything, no matter what she put him through when they first had Destiny. He stuck by her side through thick and thin -- but at this moment she had tried really hard to be strong for him knowing he’d probably be emotional through it, but as they left she had remembered that he had gone through this at least once before when he dropped her off at preschool for the first time. Alison had been off touring during that and wasn’t able to make it. She took a deep breath and hugged him back tightly, “Shes just growing up too fast.” She whispered softly “Ive missed so much.”

Aaron knew the time had come to say goodbye. He knew nothing bad was going to happen to Destiny, but for some reason he just couldn’t let her go. If there was anything fatherhood taught him, it was to love unconditionally and Aaron’s unconditionally love was going to always be with Destiny no matter where she went. Finally, Aaron took a deep breathe in and watched as Alison said goodbye to their beautiful child. He was happy that she was excited about her coloring, and he hoped she would be happy for the rest of the day. He especially hoped that she would always love school. “Okay…” he kneeled down and adjusted her tiara. “Baby, I love you so much. Have an amazing day, Dessy.” He gave her a hug and a kiss and stood up, watching her go back to her coloring. He turned to Alison. “Let’s go…”

She watched Aaron get down and say his goodbyes to their blonde headed daughter. That was what did it, she had tears welling up in her very blue eyes. She loved Aaron and their daughter more than anything in the world. Her and Aaron weren’t dating, but she knew she would always love him more than any guy she would ever date because he gave her the best thing in life, their sweet little daughter, Destiny. She gulped slowly and then nodded as she followed Aaron out. Once they got to the car, the warm tears fell from Ali’s eyes.

Aaron laughed when he finally saw Alison roll her eyes, getting the reaction he wanted out of her. He liked messing with her. He got so comfortable around Alison that making her annoyed made him laugh. He knew that that was a sign that they were closer than ever. Aaron finally got serious and nodded along with Alison. “She’s a great girl. I think she’s a bit ahead of her time. She gets along better with adults than with people her age. She’s very smart though. She’s a Heart.” Aaron shrugged and gave the teacher one last flirtatious wink as he walked away with Alison. He took a deep breathe. “I don’t know if I’m ready for this.”

“We have to be strong,” She said to Aaron. She knew if either of them started crying there was no way that Destiny would let them leave her there. She looked at Aaron, “Remember she has to go to school, we can’t take her with us, so we need to be strong for her sake.” She said as she walked over to the craft table and tapped her daughter on the shoulder, “Mommy and Daddy have to go now. I want you to have the best first day at school ever, okay? We will be back to pick you up  soon after lunch.” She explained to the younger girl before crouching down and pulling her daughter into a long hug before backing away slowly doing her best to hold it together.

Destiny turned around when her mother tapped her shoulder and listened intently to everything she was saying, “Okay mommy. I love you..” She had been so caught up in her coloring that she didn’t mind that her parents were leaving. She knew they would come back, they always did. Then she turned to her daddy and gave him a hug, “I love you daddy.” Dessy said giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Aaron took a deep breathe and walked over to Destiny’s teacher who was just finishing up talking to another child’s parents. The blonde was surprised when the he found out that Destiny’s teacher was a very attractive young women. Aaron smirked and let out a low chuckle. Aaron reached his hand out to the beautiful woman and shook her hand. “Hi there.” he said with a coy smile. “I’m Aaron, and this is my friend Alison. We’re Destiny Heart’s parents.” The woman smiled and nodded as if she already knew who they were. “Of course.” she said with a smile. “I’m Miss Jessica Day.” Aaron raised his eyebrow when she said the word ‘Miss’. “You know, Destiny is normally a great girl, but if you ever have a problem with her give me a call and I’m sure we can work something out.” Aaron gave the woman a small wink and handed her his business card. The woman gave him a shy smile and took the card. Aaron looked over at Alison, knowing she was probably rolling her eyes at him. He gave her a cheeky brow raise.

Alison followed Aaron over to the teacher, of course she was a younger woman with bright blue eyes and pretty blonde hair. She was pretty sure the teacher was younger than her. Of course Aaron, who was older than her had to hit on her. It was just Aaron’s thing. She rolled her eyes as the conversation went on, of course Aaron would find a way to give the teacher his number. Finally he quieted down and she had a chance to speak too Jessica Day, “We’re very worried about Destiny’s social skills. She doesn’t seem to do well with kids her own age.” She explained. Once she got all her worries out she turned to Aaron, “I think its time for us to say goodbe.”

Aaron scanned the family’s surroundings. He watched the small children running around them and the nervous parents in the corner, watching their kids’ every move. Aaron wished he could stay all day to look after Destiny, but he knew that he had to let her go and experience Kindergarten for herself. He had given her all the advice he could give, and now it was up to her to make the best of school. What if she didn’t make any friends? What if she couldn’t live up to the Heart name and be good at school? Or what if she was bullied? Aaron was probably more terrified than Destiny and Alison combined. Aaron watched as he daughter ran away to the table excitedly. Aaron sighed. “Okay…” he said, continuously watched Destiny and paying very little attention to Ali. “Yeah, sure.” he mumbled.

Alison was doing her best to hold herself together. She knew Aaron was a wreck, and if she was to start to cry, it wouldn’t be very good on him. She didn’t want him to cry nor did she want Des to see her parents like that. She took a deep breath wondering what was going through Aaron’s mind. Her mind was everywhere. What if her daughter couldn’t make friends? What if people were mean to the young girl?She was a sweet girl, she just had some issues socializing with other people her age, she always seemed to cling to the adults in the room. But right now she was coloring at the table with other kids, which was nice to see, “Okay, lets go.” She whisperd.

Aaron smiled. “You’re a smart little girl. That’s a very good question.” he began, putting her hair behind her ear. “But no, you wouldn’t be a tattle tale because you can tell your daddy anything.” he smiled at his baby girl. “you’ll make friends, princess, because you’re a Heart and we can do whatever we set our minds to.” He knelt down in front of her. “As long as you want to make friends and try your hardest, you will.” He gave her a kiss on the forehead and stood up to look at Alison. He took a deep breathe and nodded. “Let’s.” He swallowed hard and they walked up to the doors of the school. He opened them and made his way to the room that her kindergarten orientation was at.

“I hope you are right daddy.” She whispered quietly and tugged at her hair nervously. As they went inside the building, the young girl stayed close to her parents since the room seemed to be packed with unfamiliar faces that made her nervous. She squeezed her dad’s hand tightly but as soon as they got to the classroom, she saw all the desks and the table filled with things to do arts and crafts. She got excited and tugged at her mothers arm, once Ali leaned down she whispered something quietly to her mom.

Alison looked around, the school was great. The security was good for all the small children running around, and she knew her daughter would get top notch education here. When Destiny tugged her arm, Ali leaned down and listened to her, “Of course you can.” She said, “Go on.” She watched the small blonde run over to the table with the arts and crafts and she turned to Aaron. “We should probably go meet with the teacher.” She said softly.

Aaron couldn’t help but to laugh, but shook his head. “Yes do all of that baby girl, but if someone is mean to you tell me, not your teacher. Being a tattle tale is not the way to deal with things, there are much better ways to do so. Okay?” He straightened her tiara as the car pulled up to the school. “Okay, princess, you ready?” Aaron said as he took a deep breathe. “Because I don’t know if I am.” Aaron’s driver opened to door for the three of them and they piled out of the car. Aaron adjusted his suit and reached out for his daughter’s hand. He looked over to Ali. “I’m nervous.” he mumbled to her.

Destiny looked at her dad, “But if I tell you wouldn’t I still be a tattle tale?” She asked letting her dad fix her tiara. She nodded slowly and looked up at him when he said he didn’t know if he was ready, “Its okay daddy. Its gonna be fun.” She reassured him and then slid out of the car after her dad. Once her mother got out, she took her hand and looked up at the school, “Its a lot bigger then preschool.” She whispered quietly. “What if I don’t make any friends?”

Ali glanced down at her daughter after she got out of the car, and took her other hand gently, “You will make friends, Dessy. Everyone is gonna love you.” She told her daughter. She knew the younger blonde had trouble making friends, but she knew she was capable of doing so. She then looked at Aaron who mouthed that he was nervous to her, “I am too.” She mouthed back and bit her lip gently, “Lets do this.”

Aaron swallowed his tears when he noticed Ali looking over at him. His cover was blown. He could not show Ali he was getting upset. “I’m not crying” he mouthed back to her. He smirked and straightened up to jokingly show her he was a tough guy, even though they both knew he wasn’t when it came to Destiny. “More importantly.” he turned to his daughter. “You’re going to learn how to make the right friends. Now listen…” he paused, “Don’t let anyone be mean to you. If another boy or girl gives you problems, you show ‘em who’s boss.” Aaron smiled, and poked her nose.

Destiny looked up at her dad, she wasn’t always very social in preschool and never really made many friends. So this was her time to make friends, well according to her dad. “Yes daddy. I will make friends.” She reassured him and then nodded, “I know I know. Use the golden rule, treat others the way you want to be treated.” She had heard him say that a million times, “I will tell the teacher if someone is mean to me.”

Ali really couldn’t believe how big Destiny was. How well she spoke and she knew what the golden rule was. Being away for so long made Ali miss alot of the big moments in her daughters life, but she still loved the girl beyond words.  She knew Aaron did too, which was why he was getting emotional over their little girl going to school -- hell, she would probably get emotional once they got there, but one of them had to hold it together, right? “Yes, thats it. The golden rule is very important.”

Aaron reached down for the little girl’s hand. “Yeah….” he trailed off. “I really can’t believe.” he took a deep breathe, holding in his tears. “Dammit..” he mumbled to himself. He told himself he wasn’t going to cry. The elevator stopped and they walked through the lobby and to the car. He piled everyone in and buckled his daughter, and sat next to her.

Alison took Destiny’s other hand and smiled over at Aaron seeing the tears in his eyes, “If you cry, I’m going to cry.” She mouthed at him and then got into the car and smiled down at Destiny, “You’re going to learn so much at school.” She said. The small blonde looked up at her parents, “I’m going to learn math and more reading!”

Aaron shook the frown off his face. Ha hated remembering the person he used to be, but at the same time it made him a better person now for his daughter, V and for Ali. Aaron smiled when she said ‘you’re welcome’. Aaron chuckled, snapping pictures of Alison fixing Destiny’s hair. “That’s adorable.” he laughed to himself. “Okay, now actually pose.” he laughed as he snapped pictures on his iPhone. He sighed. “Okay, yes you’re Mom’s right.” He grabbed Des’s hand and called the elevator. When they were in the elevator, he put on Destiny’s jacket and boots her gave her her lunch box and backpack. “Are you excited?” he asked her.

Alison smiled scooping up Veronica since she was being all fussy and then followed Aaron into the elevator and looked down at Destiny. “I’m veeeery excited.” The small blonde said looking up at her father. “You said its gonna be better then preschool and preschool was fun.” Ali laughed quietly and looked at Aaron, “We’re bringing her to Kindergarten. Isn’t this crazy?”
