Daft Punk Tribute Act finally gives fans live Punk again
Ever wondered how hard it is to start a tribute band? Well, turns out it isn’t that difficult! At least for two broke men from Dublin who turned a night of Guinness into a fantastic reality. After “talkin’ the shite out” in a pub they came to the topic of how to make money as both men were on the dole. One said “Daft Punk don’t fuckin’ play anymore!” and from there you could probably guess the rest. After investing in some equipment and helmets, the two booked a venue for “Daft Punk Fans Only” and were greeted by a thriving crowd and now a thriving career, even being mistaken for the real thing!

Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival
If only we could have a Coachella or Tomorrowland here in Australia.....
If you haven’t heard this already, producer Angemi has taken the Oliver Heldens club favourite “Melody” and “remixed” it as different personas. Not only is this awesome by itself, but he has pretty much perfectly captured each of the artists and the songs essence. Personally, the Jack U version has to be the best one. Even Angemi himself thought so as it is the only version available in full on his Soundcloud.
My Take - Owning Your Craft
“A writer is a writer when he says he is” - Steven Pressfield
You become a songwriter or a producer or a musician or a mixer when you say you are. There is no king of the titles who bestows one on you when they feel it is time. When you become one is totally up to you. It DOES NOT meant you are a good songwriter, producer, musician or mixer. That takes a lot of hard work and a lot of hours and usually isn’t left for you to decide. Others will decide that and a good indication of when they make that decision is when they hire you for gigs or teaching or listen to or buy your music. So what we have to focus on from the start is embracing who we are and what we do. We have to own it.
Love it or hate it, the Pioneer CDJ has become an icon of the modern DJ world. By Adam Daze, Soundpond.net Co-Founder. While there are many (arguably better value) competitors, only one model range...
Ever wondered how the legacy of the Pioneer CDJ started? Then you should check out this article on the history of the entire lineup! Considering I myself own a CDJ 100S that stills sees occasional use, I was surprised to find out how old the thing really was!
As a digital DJ and event producer, I feel like the needs of the DJ community aren’t being very well served by the current crop of hardware...
As found on the DJ SubReddit, OP HighBeaming has brought a very good point to the table. In a world with so many choices, is standard gear becoming more obscure? Sure you have the Pioneer CDJ 2000 Nexus and DJM 900; but for the average consumer and small time business owner these products are way out of their price range, totalling the price of a second hand car! Should there be a more universal set of gear that we mere mortals can hope to afford? Would this lower priced standard set of gear lead to better DJ’s, better sound and an overall easier time for managers and the music loving public? Pioneer’s DJM 350 and CDJ 350 are bringing the bigger boys features onto a more affordable level, but is it working?
Leave a comment on what you think. Is the competition already saturated with to many controllers and gear, or do you find it hard going gig to gig knowing that what you’ve practised on may be completely different to what the venue may have?
FL Studio 12 - Finally Out
After a lengthy beta, FL 12 is finally out with a multitude of new features like Multitouch Support, a more appealing flat UI design, easy routing and a fantastic new way to interact with the mixer. As a Bitwig user I can accept that it is new lacks some of the bigger features of the other DAW’s, but FL is only just starting to really embrace its live performance capabilities. Bitwig was built ground up for this purpose, but there is nothing in the way of multitouch interaction, and I am MASSIVELY jealous! BITWIG! TIME TO STEP UP TO THE PLATE!

Skrillex to release 2015 album
Although mildly older news; the juggernaut Skrillex fresh off of his Jack U collaboration with Diplo has slyly mentioned there may be a solo album in the works for this year. During an “interview” Moore (whilst he was bowling) he said “We got an album with Diplo called Jack U, and then we got a Skillex album coming later.”. This might not be the most reliable way to announce a future release, but it came from the mans own mouth! Considering both Jack U and “Recess” were riddled with collaborations and “Featuring”, the next release will most likely be heavy with other artists. So unless he plans on trolling the whole internet, Skrillex fans rejoice!

“Spoon U” is the best HARD Summer announcement
Step aside Diplo and Skrillex, your dream team combo has been matched!
Although completely fake, “Spoon U’s” spoof of wonderboys “Jack U” is a fantastic way to announce HARD Summer 2015. Head over to Rukes’ website to see the full album.

The Presets: “...unfollow us, delete all our music and stop listening to us altogether. peace.” in response to Bali Death Penalty
Using Facebook, the Australian duo The Presets have publicly announced their views on the decision to place Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran in front of the firing line. Whilst starting off mildly annoyed, the posts quickly became very aggravated. “SO MANY PRESETS FANS DONT GET THAT 'MY PEOPLE' WAS ABOUT ASYLUM SEEKERS UNDER THE HOWARD GOVERNMENT in 2007-08. (Posted Saturday, April 25, 2015). Eventually things calmed down, but the duo refused to back off form the subject. OK. Obviously that all got a bit out of control yesterday. “I feel strongly about this issue but that’s still no excuse…” (Posted Sunday, April 26, 2015).
Although the tension on the subject, especially here in Australia, is at an all time high taking to a social media platform like Facebook just feels like a mistake. Their motives lie in the right places but as a larger force in the Australian music industry it just looks like a spoiled child throwing a tantrum. A more professional announcement of their views would have worked much better and would have been received in a better light now that the executions have taken place.
