Welcome Post
Hi there! We look forward to your visit. Please visit us on the web at SWWaterfrontWDC.com/Welcome for information about transportations, amenities, and other FAQs.
Check out this Tumblr and our Pinterest Boards for activities and attractions in and around Washington, DC.
Let us know if you need parking. We can arrange a street parking permit, and there are paid off-street options as well.
From DCA, take Metro, Yellow Line to L'Enfant Plaza. Walk South on 7th Street over the overpass, then take a left on G Street. Walk three blocks and we are on the left. It’s also about 10 minutes by cab/Uber.
From Union Station, take Metro, Red Line to Gallery Place, change to Green Line to Waterfront Station. Walk North (directly straight ahead out of the Station past the Safeway on your right) on 4th Street, then take a right on G Street and go 1 ½ blocks. We’re on the right. It’s also about 10 minutes by can/Uber.
Congressional Tours
The first thing I always have visitors do is call their Congressman and Senators. They have all kinds of special tours and tickets that they give to constituents. They book up in advance but they regularly have cancellations. At the very least there is someone on staff who can give you a great private tour of the Capitol. You can reach both of your Senators through the Senate switchboard (202-224-3121) and if you give the House switchboard (202-225-3121) your zip code, they will connect you to your Congressman. I would advise calling all three because they have different offerings and availability. Party affiliation doesn’t matter, once they are elected this is a service available to everyone from the home state.
Breakfast in DC
Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken - G Street NW The obvious breakfast choice at Astro Doughnuts & Fried Chicken is one of the eatery’s namesake donuts, bedecked in vanilla glaze, maple syrup & bacon, and peanut butter & jelly. But if you’re sick of sweets, Astro has a trump card in its donut deck: the honey butter fried chicken breakfast sandwich. “For breakfast?!” asked the doubter. “Absolutely,” answered the rational person. Jimmy T’s Place - Capitol Hill Despite being located on Capitol Hill, Jimmy T’s place is still sort of a secret. The eatery is a classic greasy spoon complete with a lunch counter and generous diner portions. Eggs and bacon and coffee and creamer rule the day here. Despite the no-frills appearance, Jimmy T’s does offer one gimmick: the coffee arrives hot and fresh in eclectic, mismatched thrift store mugs. Red Apron Butchery - Penn Quarter Red Apron Butchery’s regular breakfast menu has but seven items on it, all sandwiches. But each of the shop’s seven sandwiches pack a powerful protein punch. Combinations like the Buenos Dias – made of egg, chorizo, pickled onion, and sour cream – wage war on early morning hunger. Other choices include the aptly named Patriot: a star spangled banner of bacon or sausage, egg, and American cheese, and the house-made scrapple sandwich served on a toasted baguette and dripping with maple hot sauce. Bullfrog Bagels H St NE Despite its decades-long dominance over the New York breakfast scene, bagels have only started to take root in DC. At the forefront of the movement are bakeries like Bullfrog Bagels, a New York-style bagel pop-up located inside Star & Shamrock from 7am-1pm, every day but Monday. Bullfrog’s bagels are everything a proper NYC bagel should be: hot, chewy, and eaten with a thick layer of cream cheese, lox, pastrami, and whitefish salad. Lincoln’s Waffle Shop Penn Quarter Was Abraham Lincoln into waffles? The question may haunt historians for years to come. But if he was, and if he had access to a time machine, Lincoln might dine at Lincoln’s Waffle Shop, a short-order diner located across the street from Ford’s Theater. Like many classic diners, the menu is short, and the food is filling. In addition to the usual egg-and-pancake fare, this diner’s cooks sling crispy fried chicken and waffles the size of frisbees, both ready to be washed away in a sea of maple syrup. Also: Ben’s Chili Bowl opens early and serves breakfast (and chili dogs) Sundevich Tune Inn
From east Asian to bar food, the best places to grab vegetarian dishes.
Consider these the Things to Do in Washington Before You Die—or before you leave town, anyway.

Jazz and Blues in Washington DC
In Southwest DC we are fortunate to have Westminster Presbyterian Church featuring Blues Night on Mondays at 6pm and Jazz on Fridays at 6pm in addition to their Faith Celebration on Sundays at 11am.
Other Blues and Jazz Options are listed below. Check the websites to see what they have going on a particular night.
The Hamilton is one of my fave places in DC- Cool venue right downtown and great food. If they have a show you are interested in, I would def start there.
Blues Alley is for purists, it’s really hard-core stuffy, no talking allowed. Great if you are really into the music but not a fun “date night” spot.
701 is a classic “see and be seen” Washington restaurant. It is not far from here and the food and atmosphere are amazing.
Tryst is a coffee house that gained notoriety because Gary Condit used to take Chandra Levy there. (No, he never hurt her :) )
Can’t go wrong with Madam’s Organ, Zoo Bar, and New Vegas Lounge - They are all “insider” hot spots that locals love.
The others come highly rated but I have never been. Have fun!

Romantic Restaurants in and around Washington DC
Inn at Little Washington - “Double 5-star International Culinary Shrine,” one of the best restaurants in the region, expensive but worth the indulgence. Also it’s about 45 minutes outside of DC so you have to get yourself there, then get yourself back after enjoying the amazing wine cellar, or either get a room at the Inn
Bistro Cacao - Used to be Two Quail and people say it has the same wonderful atmosphere
Rose’s Luxury - Named the best restaurant in the country 2015. They don’t take reservations, and there is always a line, but I’m told it’s worth it. Maybe best on weeknights

SOUTHWEST DUCK POND: The Southwest Duck Pond is a labor of love for the community it serves. Through a partnership with DPR, Neighbors of Southwest Duck Pond brought the park back to life and helps maintain it. Created from the remnants of the Town Center West Park, it is now the site of a large pond with fountains, a playground and farm stand. While not legally, it’s a park that truly belongs to the people who use it. The Southwest Duck Pond is located at 6th and I streets SW.
