at the supermarket waiting in the checkout isle the guy in front of me put his stuff on the counter and just left his trolley behind him so I can't reach the counter to put my stuff on it. I say "excuse me!" but he igmores me. I push the trolley just hard enough to hit him lightly on ithe butt. No reaction.

now I'm not an academic but still work with academics I'm really noticing what smug twats they can be. I miss being a smug twat

I really have to keep learning the lesson never to discuss politics with my parents. Not because theirs are bad, but because it’s the kind of topic where they can’t help but demonstrate how little they think of my intelligence. Their reply to my question about who they are looking at voting for in the council elections you would think that they were explaining politics to a small child - no, to a small child who is also an alien, someone who has never lived in the world at all. Nothing i ever do will convince them that I can think for myself or use my own experiences and wits to figure things out. I wonder how they think i even manage to fend for myself at all. But here I go again engaging with them, and then taking it personally when they do exactly what they always do. So they’re right really, I can’t figure things out
