As Mason looked down at the crazy, bubbly blonde seated next to him he wasn’t able to do anything but smile. She was one of the few people he actually enjoyed having in his life. He had been suffocating and she had been the breath of fresh air he didn’t even know he needed. She had come out of nowhere and knocked him on his ass, literally, the very first time they met had been as wolves and all she wanted to do was fight. He watched the devious smile spread across her perfect lips and he knew he was in trouble.
He wasn’t sure how he felt at her remarks of ditching her clothes all together, on the one hand he was a man and she was a beautiful woman, but on the other hand, she was his beautiful woman, not that he would ever say that out loud to her, she would cut his balls off in his and sleep and he had grown quite attached to them over the years. “That’s not funny and you know it” He grumbled glancing around once more satisfied, for the most part, as everyone was back to minding their own fucking business.
“Plastic bag is shit” He agreed with her taking a sip of his coffee before taking a bite of his bacon. “That’s why I build the cabin out there to avoid all that” he said waving his hand. “You could always just stay there during the full moon and cut the hassle of driving out of town” He said rather quickly before taking another sip, well, gulp of his coffee. “Just think about it” He said when he saw he look on her face.
He had been saved when Linda, one of the only waitresses who worked for Granny, brought her the mound of French toast. The amount of sugar that woman could ingest and still be alive honestly astounded him. He looked back and forth between her and the sugary death that would kill a grown man. “It’s a good thing you’re a wolf or you would for sure be a diabetic” He added shaking his head before turning back to his food and shoveling a forkful of scrambled egg into his mouth. He grinned, mouth full and all at the look she gave him.
“You need to fuel up if you want to go all the way up to Bear Falls” He added, not that he would mind the run, it’s what he needed. The flock of Supes that came into Central City had also brought Hunters which made him uneasy add to that his least favorite—the witches and he was on edge. A long run would do him some good, plus it would continue to keep Candy happy and honestly that’s all he wanted.
Candy couldn’t help the way she lit up when Linda dropped the pile of french toast in front of her. When Mason made his comment about her diabetes, she let out a light giggle. “Darlin, I grew up in Mississippi where our sweet tea is practically syrup it has so much sugar in it,” she said, cutting into the french toast and stuffing a large bite in her mouth before continuing, “My momma made blackberry or blueberry cobbler every weekend.” She paused as she chewed and swallowed her food, then continued, “Man I really want some of that now...”
She glanced over at him and pursed her lips in thought for a moment before stuffing another bite of french toast in her mouth. She dropped her fork and reached across him for where the syrup sat and then doused her plate til it was practically a swimming pool of syrup. “Maybe I should make it for you sometime,” she said as she picked up her fork again and resumed eating. She was quiet for a long moment (long in Candy’s terms, which wasn’t all too long since she was normally always talking).
He’d invited her to stay at his cabin multiple times. And while they were no stranger to staying with each other (because it was just so nice to cuddle him after a long round of bumping uglies), but for some reason she just had this lump in her throat about staying at the cabin. She didn’t really know where her hesitance came from; she had always been that way. Back in Mississippi, people avoided relationships with her so she hadn’t had to worry. There were a long list of reasons people in her hometown avoided more than sex with her; the biggest of all was her last name and the group of shits that shared it. But even when relationship opportunities had been presented to her, she’d always shyed away.
Mason was so perfect and sweet and cuddly just how he was. What if being with her ruined him? She and her other halves were called the devil’s triplets for a reason; they ruined things. Hell, they’d spent the last nine months in Oxford trying to steal their cousin’s baby mama. She didn’t deserve or have any right to be with someone as good-hearted as Mason. Some part of her worried she’d go to the cabin and he’d have made a spot for her to keep some of her stuff; and that would mean he wanted to keep her around... And while his territorial spirit turned her on, it also scared the crap out of her when it came to the more serious side of things.
All in all, she was scared that she just wasn’t built for what came after “fuck buddies”.
She realized she’d been quiet for entirely too long and looked over at him with a bright smile, “How about we go to the cabin this weekend? I’ll make cobbler, we can drink and...” She wiggled her brows at him, trying to distract him from asking any questions about where her mind had just gone. “I can bring that black lingerie you liked so much,” she grinned, really pulling out all the stops here.

Mason Gray was nothing if not consistent. Every Friday he had the night shift and every Saturday morning he was at Granny’s getting his coffee fix. Usually he was there with his partner but since she had all but disappeared he sat at Granny’s alone. It wasn’t something that bothered him all that much, in a town as small as Central City, he was never really alone. Everyone knew him. When he was in High School he put Central City on the map. Well the Sixth-Division-of-High-School-Level-Hockey map but that was enough. Enough that anyone local knew who he was, or at least used to. It seemed that over the last few years more and more people had flocked from Central City maybe because of all the people who had been flocking to Central City.
It started back when he was in college and it never made sense to him. Who in their right might would come to this tiny town. He loved it but he also knew there was more to the world. That was until Ursula his psycho-witch (literally) of an ex-girlfriend turned him into a werewolf which led to him coming home and seeing exactly WHY Central City had so many new residents and what they were. It had bothered him at first, he feared for the safety of this place this place he held so dear. He hadn’t exactly been the most socialable. He didn’t want to make friends with a bunch of Supes roaming around until Cruz had not so nicely pointed out that he was one.
That still hadn’t helped. He didn’t trust them. That all changed when a bubbly blonde forced her way into his life. Candy Belfront had changed everything for him. She had been the one who showed him that not all monsters—himself included—were bad. The more time that he spent with her, the more relaxed he began to feel even if he didn’t show it. He didn’t like change. Change hadn’t been a friend of his over the years. Everytime something changed for him, something terrible followed. The bell above Granny’s door rang and he looked up even though he could smell her from a mile away.
Candy Belfront strutted into Granny’s wearing…not much of anything. He had mixed feelings about that. They weren’t a couple. That much they had agreed on. He wasn’t exactly eager to jump into a relationship when the last one had ended so badly, even if it was his own down… sort of. They weren’t a couple but that didn’t mean he relished the idea of other people, men in particular looking at his half naked non-girlfriend. He looked around the diner as she made her way over taking in everyone that was staring at her wondering who he would have to fight. The next moment she was on top of him, literally and all thought of fighting went out the fucking window.
He wasn’t sure how the fuck he had gotten to this point and he wasn’t complaining and he was sure he was going to royally fuck it up but in this moment, with her tiny frame on top of him, nothing really mattered. Boy was he in trouble. “It looks like you’re happy to see me” he grinned up at her. As he pulled back and sat up placing her next to him at the booth. He watched as she picked up his coffee and drank from the cup. “So what happened? You were in such a hurry to see me you forgot to get dressed or something?” He asked looking around remembering all the men he was ready to fight.
Candy couldn’t help the frown that came to her lips as he sat up and placed her in the seat beside him. Her frown disappeared after only a moment as she cozied up next to him and grabbed his coffee cup. She took a long sip, frowning at the lack of sugar in it. She would never understand people who didn’t fill half the cup with sugar before pouring in their coffee. Her blue-green eyes turned up to meet his as he spoke, then watched as his eyes turned around the diner.
Candy paused, glancing around as well to see more than a few heads turn away once she’d caught them. A smile touched her features, which became slightly devious as she turned her attention back to him, “If I’d known I was gonna catch your scent, I wouldn’t have put my clothes back on.” She placed his coffee cup back and then walked her fingers up his chest until they reached the neck of his shirt. She hooked her fingers on the neck as she bit down on her lower lip, “You know how I get all hot and bothered when you’re territorial, Mason.”
It was probaby one of her favorite things about him. So many men saw her only for the surface, for the commodity. She couldn’t really blame them. She and the other two parts of the devil’s triplets didn’t do much to show depth. Sometimes she wondered if she had any at all; if there was anything to her other than being a pretty face with a nice rack and perky ass to sell shit at an adult store to pervy guys. But when Mason looked at her, she didn’t feel that way. Maybe it had been the way they’d bonded... all the long nights spent out in the woods running about on four paws. She’d helped him embrace howling at the moon, and he’d helped her see she could have a life beyond Belfront Boudoir of Debauchery (she’d never forgive Cal for that name).
Candy leaned in and brushed her nose past his just before the waitress stopped by with a coffee pot to refill Mason’s cup. “Hi!” she said brightly to the waitress snd leaned up on the table towards the woman. “What is the sugary-est thing on the menu?” she asked, bright white smile on her lips as the waitress told her about their french toast. “That sounds super duper, can I get one?” Candy asked her, then scrunched up her nose as she smiled, “Thanks, darlin!” Sometimes it was all too evident that she was a southerner.
Candy stretched her long, lean body back into the booth and then rolled her head over to look at him, “I didn’t dress like this on purpose...” She reached over, taking hold of his arm and lifting it. She folded herself in against his side before draping his arm over her shoulders. “Okay, the shorts are because it’s hot... But the see through shirt is not my fault!” she pouted, turning her head up to look at him from her spot on his chest, “I stashed my clothes but then it rained and they got drenched... And don’t tell me about the bag idea again, that’s just too much hassle.” She smiled, settling back into her spot and letting out a content sigh.
“But anyway, enough about my lack of clothes, how was your day? Did you do anything amazing? How long has it been since our last run? The time of the month is coming soon so we gotta plan our night out. Oh! What about that river that we went to that one time? I can’t remember the name of it...”

“Mother fucker!” Candy growled as she shifted back to human form. It had apparently rained while she was running, and the stash spot for her clothes had not been water tight. She could vaguely recall one of her seventy five cousins telling her she needed to put them in a bag instead of just stuffing them in a tree, but when had any of the triplets ever listened??? Never.
She pulled on her teal bra and then the white tank top that was now completely see through. She pulled on her cut off shorts (if they could even be called that at this point with how little they covered and the amount of holes) and stuffed her feet down into her (almost completely) mud covered boots. She rummaged around in the grass for a moment until she found the hair tie she’d discarded on the ground earlier and tied her blonde hair up in a messy bun atop her head. Candy then placed her hands upon her hips and took in a deep breath, what should she do now?
She could always try to break into Toby’s house to play with the munchkin and Brett if they were around... But she wasn’t feeling like seeing Toby’s disapproving face... or being chased out of the house by a frying pan wielding Toby. She pursed her lips for a moment and started slowly making her way towards the edge of the woods. It wasn’t until she’d reached the edge of the woods that she picked up a scent... A scent she’d grown to love in her time here in Colorado.
Without much other thought (but when did she ever really have thoughts?) she followed it, probably looking like a lunatic to any passing humans watching the tall, thin girl sniff the air as she walked. Candy had never been one for subtly, and that showed when she tossed open the door to Granny’s diner and saw Mason lounging in one of the booths.
“Mason!” she yelled out, clearing the distance between them and throwing herself atop him, practically laying on top of him, and smothered his face in kisses. She wrapped her arms around his neck and laid her head on his chest, taking in a deep breath and smiling, despite the fact that everyone was staring at the practically topless woman laying on top of the bear-esque man. “How are you today, handsome man?”
