Since my book came out, I've photographed many black dogs in my studio. Gracie and Trixie always look good in front of the camera, even if they didn't make it into the book.

I know I don’t do a good job posting here but I wanted to let you know that my black dog book has a reboot. It’s a smaller version called “Black Dogs”. If you are interested, please ask your local bookstore store to carry it or buy online through bookshop.org which supports local bookstores. (Amazon doesn’t need your money).
I hope this finds your way to my feed. Please share photos of your black dog in the comments.

This is the latest story from my book, the Black Dogs Project. Thanks
Dakota’s Story
This is a time where no one can go out and we are all looking for new ways to be creative. One thing I struggle with is reading aloud so I decided I'd give myself a challenge and read stories from my book, The Black Dogs Project. This is Dakota's story which is the first one in the book. I can hear all the issues and problems with this but I'm going to put it out there anyway because it's a place to start. Please let me know what you think and if I should do more.
Iggy got to meet Winston when we went over to his house for the photo reveal for the family. I would say that they hit it off. . . . . #dogphotography #dogphoto #petphotography #fredlevyart #excellent_dogs #dogmodel #yourdogstoday #topdogphoto #animalphotography #dogphotographer #dogportrait #cutedogs #dogscorner #a_dogsworld #dog_features #lovemydog #bestwoof #dogsofinstaworld #dogs_of_instagram #doglife #doglover #dogoftheday #doglovers #petsofinstagram #doggy #mutt #muttsofinstagram #newengland #boston #slomo #dogplay (at Northborough, Massachusetts)
Letting black dogs play in the green grass. :)
Lucy was very good for the camera
I’ve started a new project called All Mixed PUP. Much like the black dogs project, I’m creating studio portraits of mixed breed dogs. If you liked this black dogs project, I think you’ll like this too. Please check it out, follow and share.
I love my photos so much, I painted our family room so I could hang these photos.
Raffle for 2018 Calendar
The 16-month Calendar for the black dogs project is out now. It is pretty exciting that this project has been doing so well for so long. I’m doing a giveaway that starts on Friday (Oct 6) until the end of the month. You can find it on my Facebook page or go right to the raffle.
If you can’t wait, you can pick it up at Amazon or ask your local bookstore to carry it. Either way, thanks for the support.
If you do buy it from Amazon, please write a review. It will make it easier for people to find.
Happy National Black Dog Day (October 1). This was the photo that started me on the journey to create the book that changed my life.
Amazon.com: The Black Dogs Project 2018: 16 Month Calendar Includes September 2017 Through December 2018 (9781631063633): Fred Levy: Books
You can also ask your local bookstore to carry the latest calendar! Thanks for the support.
Sorry for being so quiet for so long. To book is done and the 2018 calendar is out but that doesn’t mean I stopped shooting. Just trying to keep things going.
Open your hearts, people
good to see the conversation still going.
Wexler is a service dog from Canine Companions. He came to my Mini Session I’ve started doing at Especially for Pets stores. My first shoot was at the Sudbury Ma store and it turned out great. I’m so happy that I get to continue creating photos like this. Part of the proceeds from the sessions will be going to CCI which does such an amazing job raising, training and giving dogs to people who need them at no cost. Wexler makes his owners day so much better and they will love having his photo forever.
My next mini-session will be at the Newton store and then in Westborough in May. If you’re in the area, please let me know.
Sad to say that Emmi has passed away. She was an amazing therapy dog who made everyone feel better even days before she passed. She will be missed but she was given the best life a dog could ask for. RIP Emmi.
Big news, even though I should have done this much sooner.
I’ve finally gotten around to creating a web gallery where anyone who loves the black dog photos could pick from some of my favourites to have hanging in your home. You can either buy a print and go get it frames or get an aluminum print ready to hang. Either way, you can have one of my favorites hanging in your home. If you’ve got a favorite, let me know.
Gemini’s Pampered Greyhounds contacted me last week, looking for help in getting the word out on three of their greyhounds that are looking for a home. It always breaks my heart when I hear about dogs that are getting passed over, like these three black beauties. Older dogs fair no better (or even worse) and each story breaks my heart. I invited them to come to the studio and let me photograph them. We had to do them one at a time because these retired track dogs knew no commands and weren’t even food or toy motivated. I was able to get some really nice photos of each dog and some fun candids outside.
If you know anyone looking for a greyhound in the New England area, please contact Gemini’s Pampered Greyhounds. Even if you’re not, please share and let others know. The power of just putting it out to the universe is amazing.
I’m in a show in at Gallery 7 right in my home town. The opening is April 30 from 7-9 so if you’re in the area, stop by and say hi. You can see the info on FB invite page.
If you’d like me to mail you a postcard, email me at [email protected] with your address and I’ll mail you one. Limited number so no promises.
