4JX1 Isuzu Trooper story(Part 2)
Before even changing the injectors myself, the car was able to run somehow on three cylinders. It was used on shoots and was taken to places. I brought it to Tagaytay highlands and even up to Antipolo with my bandmates.
Imagine steep roads and tons of hill climbs. The Trooper was able to do it even if one cylinder wasn’t working.
Looks real good especially when clean.
Going back to replacing injectors, I had to take photos of the serial numbers of the injectors to be placed given that I have to encode it to its’ computer system. If you don’t encode the injectors, it will still work but not really idle the best.
Inspect all the parts before putting it back in.
The injectors was still hanging on the common rail loosely so that it can properly sit on its’ chamber before tightening everything up. The new copper washers were just dropped in and then we drop the common rail in together with the injectors.
Time to button it up and give it a start. However, you’re gonna have to crank it around ten times given short intervals for the oil pressure in the common rail to build up. It usually takes a while so take your time.
Upon getting the Trooper to start, the joy of being able to drive it smoothly and gently was incomparable to anything. The success of it not shaking upon reaching 60kph was the greatest feel. I was so happy that I video messaged my bandmates at 6am just to let them know.
Aside from that, not much has been done. I replaced the fog lights to yellow LEDs and park lights to amber LEDs.
I replaced the head unit and now I plan to change the rear speakers.
Maybe soon my Trooper would be the dream ride but for now I’m taking my time. Wheels and paint? Maybe a new intercooler and turbo charger? Slowly but surely.
Thanks for reading! Here’s a photoshopped image of what I want my Trooper to be.
This set up would be nice as well!
I replaced one of the injectors in my 4jx1 Isuzu Trooper together with putting in new copper washers
When I got this car, I had to change one of the injectors given that the exhaust was producing a lot of white smoke. I didn’t know anything about troopers that time so after a while, I discovered that the injector I bought wasn’t working, but it was just not producing so much smoke.
I got the exhaust filled with degreased and was cleaned using the pressure washer. The smoke was gone and it worked, somehow.
Worked for a while but it still shakes around 60kph. A few months ago, I learned how to replace injectors on my own. So I did.

Isuzu Trooper/Bighorn. Badge engineering is big business and it didn’t get any bigger than Isuzu in the 1990s. Their second generation Trooper (also called an Isuzu Bighorn and an Isuzu Trooper Bighorn) was sold with eight different badges and they weren’t all General Motors brands. So, in alphabetical order, they were: Acura SLX Chevrolet Trooper Isuzu Bighorn Holden Jackaroo Holden Monterey Honda Horizon Opel Monterey Subaru Bighorn Vauxhall Monterey
Holden also turned it into a concept car, The Jack8, a revamped roofless two-door powered by GM’s Gen III V8.
If you can think of a single model which has been sold under more brands than this please let me know
