me and my friend read the Secrets of The Silent Witch light novels and web novels, and there was an issue that appeared to us:
Felix's status as a love interest.
normally, it'd be whatever. it's a love angle, two guys, one girl, seen it a million times. but there's a detail that most people seemed to have glossed over, which im going to talk about under the cut.
this is your spoiler warning for the entire main series of Silent Witch, there will be lots of talks about the major overarching mystery, and you should at least read vol7 of the light novels to not get extremely spoiled, if not vol14 of the web novel for the major details.
so, felix(ike)/monica. its a popular ship, which tells me 1 of 3 things.
1. you're an anime watcher who hasn't seen just how morally gray ike can be in the light novels, which is fine
2. you haven't seen the light of either silent snow (cyril/monica) or aro/ace monica
3. you missed the detail that im talking about here
we know monica is 16-18. she was 14 when she became a sage, it's been 2 years since then (thanks bernie), she's 16. over the course of the story, she turns 17, ultimately ending the story at 18 after a one year time skip.
ok, well ike is 18 at the start of the story, and while a birthday is never specified for him, he probably turns 19 at some point, just due to how long the story takes in canon, then he's probably 20 at the timeskip. 2 years isn't that insane for teenage relationships, and if we're generous, he might even be 19 at the end, so what's the problem?
the problem is that i just lied to you. ike isn't 18 at the start, he's 20. he's established in volume 14 chapter 4 of the web novel to be 2 years older than felix. and if felix died at 8 years old, then ike was 10 when he took over as the "felix", and if it's been 10 years since then when the story starts, then ike starts the story 20 years old.
remind me, when does ike develop feelings for monica? oh yeah, near the start of the story, when she is a 16 year old girl and he is a 20 year old man.
even if we assume he doesn't have a birthday during the story, he still ends the story at 21 years old. but he likely turns 21 over the course of the story, then ends a 22 year old man.
a 22 year old man, who moved himself into the home of an 18 year old girl and is actively competing for her affections.
uhoh Matsuri Isora! you accidentally did a pedophilia! that's not good! that's not good at all!
so that's the "Felix" problem, and it's somehow one that a lot of people seemed to miss, which is slightly understandable, considering it's only explictly mentioned maybe twice, but is still a big deal when you're writing a romantic subplot with teenagers.
write down your characters' ages people. especially if your lying about your character's age.
way less sad by ajr is unironically a hopecore song and I stand by that. the idea that, while things maybe aren't the greatest now, they're better than they were are will continue to get better.

funny thing about the phm that could very well be my delusions: the song playing when Grace and Carl are getting materials for the Venus box is Pata Pata by Miriam Makeba, which I instantly recognized as the song used by Mark Rober, a former NASA engineer and current Youtube personality, in various build montages in his videos. I cant get the idea of someone on the phm team knowing about Mark and his NASA background and using his build song in their movie about going to space
got my dm father to watch d20: on a bus the other day. he made it through s1 without (too much) issue, but I had to shut s2 off around the 20 minute mark because he quote "was taking 2 psychic damage for every second he watched"
wanna get back into qsmp, but I haven't been keeping up with qsmp 2 lore. gonna focus on Schlatt, quackity, Phil and tubbo I think, what do I need to know before getting back in?

Au where the Mecha Man Blue explosion had more permanent damage:
A bomb explosion + over 50ft drop tends to equal more HP damage than a four-week Sleeping Beauty-esque coma (even less according to one of the comics) and a broken arm.
The public are a little more heartbroken when Mecha Man Blue doesn't walk onto the stage, but instead hobbles out on crutches, his suit just barely hiding a pair of hospital-loaned prosthetic legs.
The right leg of the suit had already been breached when the bomb went off, and the straps that normally held the hero in-place in combat ended up trapping him when he went down over LA. By the time emergency responders and medical personel got to him, it had been a little too late.
Robert awakes in hospital to a strangely-familiar old man holding his dog.
Robert, blurry: "Who..?"
Chase, short laugh: "That morphine some good shit, Robert. 'Cus I know your ass ain't got amnesia. My powers might've made me old as shit, but I haven't changed that much."
Robert, blinks with recognition: "Trackstar?"
Chase, smiling: "Yup."
Robert, tries to sit up: "...why can't I move my legs?"
Chase: (*goes quiet, eyes flicker to the end of the bed*)
Robert: (*looks down. His legs from just below the thighs are gone. Robert is silent*)
Chase, reassuringly: "The medics did all they could do. The suit absorbed a lot of the damage, but some acid shit seeped inside from the exposed leg port. Would have been a lot worse if you were angled just a little more downwards. The attending surgeon called me up since I'm still listed as your legal next of kin... Robert? You listening, son?"
Robert: (*planning Toxic and Shroud's demise*)
Robert is ultimately left with two missing limbs, permanent nerve damage in his hips and back, chronic pain, phantom pain, a minor brain injury, acid burn scars, etc... all from one really bad mission.
Blonde Blazer still approaches him after the disasterous press conference with a proposition. Turns out there's a career path for crippled former superheroes - making sure the new ones don't fuck up too badly.
Flambae still threatens Mecha Man at Crypto Night - claiming that just because another villain got their revenge first, doesn't mean Mecha Man is forgiven for what he did to the fire-wielder. Robert discovers that he shouldn't mix tequila and prescribed pain killers. Flambae is left mildy crispy and humilated. (Think a certain scene from Rango)
Robert now has to navigate; being the newest SDN dispatcher, being assigned a group of disrespectful ex-villains, repairing the Mecha Man suit, all in addition to adapting to his new disability. Also paying off medical bills, cus physiotheraphy, canes, meds, and wheelchairs are expensive af.
Royd promises to "make the man mecha again", no matter what. Even if he has to switch gears from the mech suit to work on building Robert some kickass superlegs in his spare time.
