(Just something I want to explore of other ways I see Arthur Fleck, I hope you folks like, and don't hesitate to send a request)
Arthur stands there, on top of those flightless stairs he goes up and down every day; his life throws him around, up and down, but things could be better, say the ones in Gotham City, the same hellhole. As Arthur's green eyes watch her go down the stairs, he watches her walk, smooth and patient and slow. Arthur lets out a shaky breath, the smell of cigarettes and black coffee on his breath, the smell of sweat and his unwashed, greasy hair, the smell of small fragments of white grease paint from his work. It’s not a nice way Arthur wanted to ‘introduce’ himself to her. He hesitates and looks down at the cracks in the cement that he stands on as he slowly starts walking down those stairs. He keeps his distance from her as she is almost midway down the stairs, and he stumbles a bit on his feet but regains his composure as he plays like a normal man going in the same direction as her. He looks down as he sees her walking further down the stairs, feeling a rush of emotions in his chest; he knows he's doing the right thing, but deep down he wants to just talk to her. As he breathes softly, he lets out a nervous chuckle and lets it sink down his throat as he feels his Adam’s apple bob up and down in his throat; he feels nervous but keeps walking down the stairs. As he pushes his feet to speed up a bit, he tends to keep looking at the back of her head, as he catches up a few stair steps behind her. He lets out a shaky breath and puts his hand on his yellow-brown jacket as he tries to play it off, as they both reach the bottom of the stairs at the same time. As she is about to walk in the opposite direction, Arthur doesn’t know where he is going; he was going wherever she went. “Excuse me …” Arthur speaks in a nervous, almost brave voice as the young woman turns to look at him. “Yes?”she says. Arthur stares down at her, and he feels a short laugh pop out of his mouth; he covers his mouth, turns his face to the side, and coughs roughly as he feels himself chuckle, but pushes it down his throat. “Ha… Ha , I-I’m sorry about that “, Arthur says as he coughs and looks at her . She looks at him worriedly, and a bit nervously, as in any scenario, a random older man stopping a young woman to just start coughing and laughing wouldn’t be seen as normal or comfortable, since she didn’t know him at all. Arthur swallows hard and coughs a few more times, feeling embarrassed and nervous, looking down at her. Arthur stares at her as he doesn’t know what to ask her or tell her, so little emotional human connection Arthur rarely has. She just stares up at him as Arthur opens his mouth to say something, but nothing comes out . “I have to go,” she says, feeling a bit weird as Arthur looks at her. Arthur nods and smiles a bit , as the young woman gives him a polite small smile and turns to walk away. Arthur stares at her as she walks down, just watching her walk away, and he chuckles sadly and nervously. “Maybe next time …” Arthur says under his breath to himself.
