You and Steve were on a mission: take down this Hydra base. You two stuck close together because you knew how Hydra was with attacks and trying to take people. You had gotten to the control room where you were going to place the bomb and got to work immediately. Steve stood watch at the door just in case. He didn’t see the Hydra man, though, and the man grabbed ahold of you and placed a rag over your mouth just in time for you to scream. Steve only heard the muffled scream as the man was dragging you away. He couldn’t get to you.
A couple of years later, he was in his apartment with Fury, discussing something with him, when a bullet broke through the window and landed in Fury’s shoulder. Steve grabbed up his shield and broke the rest of the window out as he jumped through it. He only saw the legs of the attacker because you took off running once the bullet embedded itself in Fury’s shoulder. Steve chased you, though. It wasn’t a super close, but it was close enough for you.
Steve stopped at the door and threw his shield. You turned around and caught it with one hand, your metal arm. You could tell by the look on his face no one’s ever done that. You threw it back at him and jumped from the building.
Later, you found him on the bridge. Kill him. Any means necessary. The voice rang through your head as someone handed you a grenade launcher. You fired at Steve, and it hit his shield, knocking him off the bridge. Your combat when a long way with him before he ripped your mask off. Everything seemed to stop then. He looked at you breathless and confused. “(Y/N)?” he asked, and you furrowed your eyebrows.
“Who the hell is (Y/N)?” you asked, making him only stare back at you. You shook your head and took off. You couldn’t get him out of your head, though. Something about that name rang a bell in your head. You knew him. You were sure of it, but you didn’t know from where or why.
You geared up to end it all and ran over the mission in your head over and over. You stepped onto the helicarrier and waited. You knew Steve would be there any minute, and you had the one thing he needed, the chip. “I don’t want this to get messy, (Y/N). Just hand over the chip, and we can get this done easily.”
You only stared back with a clenched jaw. Two seconds later, you had him pinned to the ground. “Come on; I’m your best friend, your mission partner,” he grunted as he flipped you off him. “I’m Steve, your little friend from Brooklyn.”
“No, you’re not!” you exclaimed and punched him across the face. He staggered back and recomposed himself. He got you into a headlock and held you there.
“You’re name’s (YF/N) (Y/M/N) (Y/L/N). You like (random thing you like),” he told you breathlessly. You broke his grip and backed away.
“Shut up!” you yelled, giving him another good punch. Steve decided he’s had enough and picks you up by the throat.
“Just give me the chip,” he whispered, but you shook your head. Steve slammed you into the glass of the helicarrier. It cracked a little beneath you, and you let go of the chip. He quickly grabbed it and placed it where it needed to go. You went up behind and grabbed the back of his suit, throwing him where he had you. The glass cracked a little more, but you climbed on top of him and threw punch after punch. “You’re my friend.”
“And you’re my mission,” you spat while wrapping your hands around his collar. You pulled your arm back, but Steve’s words interrupted you.
“Then finish it. Cause I’m with you till the end of the line,” he said, and you just looked at him. There was a cracking sound; suddenly, Steve was falling. You jumped in afterwards and swam to the bottom to grab Steve from the bottom of the river he landed in. You drug him out to the sand beside the river and began walking away. “(Y/N)?” he groaned, and you turned to him. “I know you remember me.”
“I don’t even remember myself.”
And you were gone once again.
